Benevolessence is a recurring non-collectible item in the Dragon Quest series.
Description
Benevolessence is a blue-green shining crystallization of gratitude by humans for the protection given to them by the Celestrians.
Appearances
Dragon Quest IX
Making its debut, it is obtained by helping people and sometimes their spirits, thanking the Hero for their blessing. It is the cardinal duty of the Celestrians to present the Benevolessence to the Yggdrasil Tree in order to make it blossom, according to Aquila. During the main story, it is also used to recharge the Starflight Express in order to return to the Observatory.
Dragon Quest X
Benevolessence is given to the Ember Explorers after helping the people of Zenias.
Other appearances
Dragon Quest XI 3DS and Definitive Edition
Appearing as a battle item in this main series entry, it is obtained as a reward for the Quest Go Fygger. When used as an item in battle, it casts Magic Barrier to the front line of fighters and can be used an infinite number of times. In the 3D Mode of the Definitive Edition however, the Magic Barrier can only be applied to one party member.
Etymology
- Benevolessence seems to be a portmanteau of Benevolence and Essence.
Trivia
- In the Japanese game, they are called Star Auras, which explains the glittering stars and the fact that its shaped as a comet.
