Biography
Raised as a pickpocketer since childhood, Cathlan continued her swindling ways since adulthood, never understanding that there was more in life than profit.
Posing as a fortune teller, the Wetling woman gave Prince Odisu advice on how to awaken the sealed shrine maiden, Saria. When the seal was broken, however, it was revealed that Cathlan only wanted to revive Tyrant Basagrande, tricking the prince in the process, in order to coquer the Wenna islands. However, not only Basagrande was completely uninterested in teaming up with her, but he also subsequently ended up defeated, much to her chagrin. She made a hasty escape, with Odisu opting to catch her to a later date.
After the defeat of Maldragora and the kidnapping of royals by the Hero's sibling, Cathlan aided Antero, beliving him to be a shady snake charmer, under the promise of a reward, by making up a legend of a great threat, thanks to a fake ancient tablet, to lure the Royal Investigation Team, Odisu, and Hussar into a trap at the Juredia Remains. When the Hero and the Wetlings arrived to the central room, she revealed she tricked them again and mocked them until Antero arrived. Upon confirming the presence of his _target, Antero summoned Gurubareida through a special card to deal with the Hero and their comrades. After the battle, Antero left with Prince Odisu in his possession, in truth Hussar in disguise. Cathlan, being enraged that the man disappeared without giving her her reward, subsequently fled when the enraged Odisu threatened consequences for her actions.
While searching for a way to quell the anger of Linache, who had been turned into a evil deity, towards the kingdom of Verinard, the Hero, alongside the treasure hunter Tezoro, searched the ancient Jureida prison where they found Cathlan again, who had stolen exactly the Jewel Box they were looking for. Luckily, the beloved dog of Tezoro scared Cathlan away, making her drop the box, which was then used to prove to the corrupted Linache that her anger was misplaced.
Some time later, in a sidequest, it is revealed that Cathlan, still fleeing from the authorities for her numerous crimes, was still stalking around the Jureida Remains, eventually managed to get cursed by the old followers of Vigore for desecrating his tomb, who first attempted to take her life and then paralyzed her on the spot unless she returned the stolen loot. After the Hero returned the ring to Vigore, the curse was lifted, and Tezoro escorted Cathlan to Verinard Castle, where she was finally arrested by the guards. Thanks to Tezoro, who had developed a crush on her, and the Hero putting forward a good word for her, however, her sentence was reduced, and instead of being executed, she was put for rehabilitation by doing several years of community service under strict supervision; upon hearing of her change of sentence, Cathlan cried, perhaps finally having also a change of heart.
