Heights of Loneliness is a dungeon in Dragon Quest IX. It leads up the mountains near Lonely Plains to Zere Rocks. There is a cottage at the base of the Heights. Many routes in this area are vines- the hero needs to climb along the vines to access another area or platform. Its name may also resemble the fact that a man called Mason, who is a hermit, lives there and is very lonely. Whether this is coincidental or it was purposely called that is unknown.

Quest #112 - "Ranger Charger" | |
---|---|
Location | Heights of Loneliness - Entrance |
Available at | Upon arriving at Heights of Loneliness - Entrance |
Requested by | Odval |
Response to | Odval |
Requirement | Toxic Dagger |
Reward | Unlocks the Ranger vocation. |
Detail | You have been set a challenge by Odval, the ranger you met at the Heights of Loneliness. She wants you to use Toxic Dagger to envenomate three hocus chimaeras and polish them off with poison alone. |
Hint for solution | Travel to the Heights of Loneliness and past the first cave area within. Make sure you have a party member who can use a dagger and has the Toxic Dagger ability. Get into a battle with a hocus chimaera. Have the party member with the Toxic Dagger ability use it on the hocus chimaera until it successfully poisons the enemy while the other party members defend. Once the hocus chimaera is poisoned, defend with all party members until it dies of poison damage. This will take awhile since the hocus chimaera will use Midheal on itself once its HP gets low, but eventually it will run out of MP. It's also possible for the hocus chimaera to get confused by your charm, but this will also wear off. |
Quest #113 - "Hoarse Whisper" | |
---|---|
Location | Heights of Loneliness - Entrance |
Available at | With a level 15 Ranger in your party |
Requested by | Odval |
Response to | Odval |
Requirement | Calm 20 enemies with "Soothe Sayer". |
Reward | Nomadic deel |
Detail | Odval at the Heights of Loneliness says that a true ranger must be able to talk to the animals. She wants you to attract the attention of twenty beasts by angering them, and then calm them down again with Soothe Sayer. |
Hint for solution | Keep hitting monsters until they get angry. Boss monsters are good _targets because they are not as easily to beat as normal monsters, so remember to cast "Soothe Sayer" when they get angry. Alternatively, any player can use Whistle or Eyes on Me to enrage monsters, on which the ranger can use "Soothe Sayer". |
Quest #114 - "One-Turn Wonder" | |
---|---|
Location | Heights of Loneliness - Entrance |
Available at | With a level 40 Ranger in your party |
Requested by | Odval |
Response to | Odval |
Requirement | Kill 5 Drakularges within the first turn. |
Reward | 'Ranger's Revelations' |
Detail | Odval at the Heights of Loneliness says that some monsters must be defeated quickly. She wants you to defeat 5 Drakularges within the first turn. |
Hint for solution | A Drakularge needs only to be defeated by the end of the first round; it does not require that it is killed by a single party member or on its first hit. |
