Biography

Childhood

Najinn was the prince of the now-fallen Netherworld nation of Necrodea, which existed about 300 years prior to the events of the game. As a child, Najinn met a young Shaka, who was left there by his father to receive an education, and though their first encounter resulted in Shaka hitting Najinn in anger, the two boys eventually became friends.

When Shaka learned of his father's death due to the eruption of a miasmound, he attempted to warn the rest of the Netherworld about the danger that was approaching it, only to be rebuked and ridiculed. When Najinn asked Shaka why he would go through the trouble to help people he doesn't even know, Shaka replied that he could never ignore someone in need of help. Najinn was moved by Shaka's response, and said that he would make a fine ruler. The boys then began making plans to one day build their own nation, one that could unify the people of the Netherworld against the coming Age of Miasma, and as a symbol of their oath, they forged the Magic Blade Astoron out of Necrodite, which had the unique ability to turn objects it cut into solid iron.

Necrodea was a nation famous for its rich metal deposits and advanced smelting and smithing techniques, which made it the _target for invasion by the neighboring nation of Valdista. The leader of the Valdistan forces, General Zobris, was a cruel and deceptive master of illusion magic who tricked the armies of Necrodea into attacking each other, while she took the young Najinn hostage. Zobris demanded that the king of Necrodea take the life of his own wife, the queen, in exchange for Najinn's release, but even after he agreed to this, she sent an illusion of Najinn to kill the king afterwards. Zobris then proceeded to torture Najinn, plucking out his right eye, before Shaka came to his rescue, sacrificing Astoron by piercing it into Zobris' body and turning her to iron, allowing the two of them to escape. Najinn blamed himself for the destruction of his homeland by allowing himself to be captured by Zobris, saying he had lost everything, including his reason to live. Shaka then said he would give Najinn a new reason to live, and asked him to join him in building their new nation.

Najinn still pained over the loss of his home and his eye, which led to Shaka searching for the secret art of the blood pact, in which a powerful Demon shares their blood with another, linking both their lives and fates together. Shaka hoped that forming a blood pact with Najinn would help him overcome his pain, but when he attempted the ritual, it failed, leaving both of them on the brink of death. Fortunately, they were saved at the last second by the intervention of Sage Marine.

The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction

The Hero's first encounter with Najinn is in Farazade after defeating Shish Kebab's gang. He thanks them for keeping his lord, Shaka, safe from harm during his mission abroad, and shows concern for them after learning they had entered a blood pact with Shaka, explaining the dangers behind it.

War of the Netherworld

Najinn joined Shaka later in sneaking into Valeria's forces to abduct Illusia, covering their escape with a smoke bomb. He is encountered by the Hero again in the ruins of Necrodea after he saves a girl named Lantel from a horde of restless Corpse corporals & Ghouls. He explains that with the war in the Netherworld starting to heat up, he has come to retrieve the sword Astoron from Zobris' body to return to Shaka, and asks for the Hero's help in doing so, offering a way to reach Farazade in exchange. When Najinn removes the sword and prepares to finish off Zobris the moment her body turns back to normal, he is attacked by Lantel, who is revealed to be an illusion created from Zobris' severed left hand. Zobris then subjects Najinn to an illusion that forces him to relive the day his parents were killed as she attacks the Hero and their party. After Zobris is killed, her illusion continues to linger, but when Najinn remembers Shaka's words to him that day, he is able to break free of the illusion.

Keeping his promise, Najinn leads the Hero through a hidden route that leads directly to the basement of Farazade Castle, and the Hero is reunited with Illusia. Najinn presents Astoron to Shaka, but before handing it over, reprimands his king for not working with the Hero because of his pride despite preaching the values of cooperation and compromise. Just then, news arrives of a battle breaking out between the armies of Valdista and Zexus, and Shaka and Najinn depart with their own forces to join the battle. During the battle, Queen Elgadora of Zexus forced her son Azbar to summon an ancient demon that decimated the battlefield. Najinn shielded Shaka from the attack with his own body and died from his injuries.

The Source of Darkness

However, after his death, Najinn's soul entered Astoron, remaining in a dormant state unbeknownst to anyone. Only when Shaka was transformed into a monster by Jagonuba and was in danger of self-destructing did Najinn's soul stir, urging the Hero to plunge Astoron into Shaka. With the sword stuck in Shaka's body, his soul came into contact with Najinn's, and Najinn brought Shaka back to his senses. As Najinn prepared to depart to the afterlife, Shaka formed a new blood pact with him, urging him to stay by his side as his new blade, to which Najinn agreed. Astoron's blade shattered as Shaka turned back to normal, and Najinn's spirit formed a new blade for the sword.

Shaka and Najinn fought alongside the Hero during their final battle against Jagonuba, with Astoron being imbued with the power of creation by Goddess Luciana. After the final battle, Najinn's soul continues to inhabit Astoron, now with a new physical blade, but losing its ability to turn things into iron.
