Porthtrunnel (formerly known as Konenber) is a town in Dragon Quest IV, located to the south of Bath.

Synopsis

A port town, Porthtrunnel is centre of the world's shipbuilding industry. However, at the beginning of Chapter 5, all these efforts have been stalled as the nearby Pharos Beacon has been giving off false signals due to its infestation by monsters.

Story

The party travel to Porthtrunnel in the hopes of securing passage on a ship. After learning of the town's predicament, and that Torneko Taloon had head off to the Pharos Beacon to investigate, the party decide to follow suit. Bumping into the merchant in the tower, the party agree to help him rid the lighthouse of monsters, in return for use of his new ship. Successful in their endeadvour, the port resumes normal operations, and the party and Torneko set out for their next destination.

Etymology

Porth is the Welsh and Cornish equivalent of the English word 'port', ultimately derived from the Latin 'portus'. A trunnel is a type of wooden dowel traditionally used in shipbuilding.
