Your language contributions

edit

Hi. I've seen that you've been contributing to several books pertaining to various languages, including French, German and Italian. Do you have sufficient knowledge in these languages to be contributing to them? Or are you using a translator, such as Google Translate, to contribute? --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 22:38, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Atcovi:, nice to meet you! I have a rather good knowledge of several languages.

I know some French from school. However, I decided to learn some more. I started with textbooks and did ok. I have now continued my learning on wikibooks, though I have an ok understanding already. However, I am not fluent and sometimes have to use translator tools to help me with accents.

I am part German and have therefore spent quite a while in Germany, from where I picked up a bit. My mother was fluent in German and spoke quite a bit to me, also helping my knowledge. I had some lessons at school. I have to sometimes use translators and consciously check for word order with German.

I have not got much knowledge of Italian. However, I have spent a few months living there and have therefore picked up a bit. I also started learning from a textbook. I still have to use translators a bit.

I am rather good with Latin and have always scored good scores in the tests. It is very rare that I will use translators for Latin.

Esperanto is not really my strong point with languages. I was a regular attendee of my old school's Esperanto society (which was, I accept, rather small!), it was from here that I learnt most of my Esperanto. I have also started the Wikibook course, and hope I will improve my skills in this language. I have to use translators to supplement my current knowledge.

I hope this helps you, Qwerty number1 (discusscontribs) 23:21, 29 December 2018 (UTC) If you have any more questions, please contact me again! PS:some of the pages, like [this one], require very little knowledge of the language(in this case German).Qwerty number1 (discusscontribs) 23:53, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Interesting read, I must say. Well, please make sure that your contributions are 100% accurate. That's all I think that I need to state. Thanks for the reply. --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 00:27, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Template

edit

Pi zero. I am really confused about making a map for a wikijunior page, UNESCO sites/Statue of Liberty. I could not find a picture, so am trying to make template, link to which is on my userpage. Qwerty number1 (discusscontribs) 21:40, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't have directly experience with maps, though I've considered dabbling in some aspects of it. What sort of thing do you have in mind — is there an example somewhere? --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 21:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Pi zero: Wikijunior:World Heritage Sites/Statue of Liberty and the template is User:Qwerty number1/Statue of Liberty on map. Thanks, Qwerty number1 (discusscontribs) 21:07, 29 January 2019 (UTC)!Reply

But, what is it you're trying to achieve? Is there an example of something similar somewhere? --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 23:38, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I am trying to work out if there is some easy way of producing these maps so they can be used to show people where anything is in the world, since many locations seem to lack maps where they are already marked onto. Qwerty number1 (discusscontribs) 10:12, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Fix the template in the Wikijunior Asia

edit

Hi, while I appreciate of your template map User:Qwerty number1/Asia interactive map at the Wikijunior:Asia but it seems the map is a bit cluttered towards the West side of the map

I saw a more appropriately labelled map at here: https://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Templat:Asia_Labelled_Map with much less cluttering. Perhaps can modelled the labeling from that link I pasted above.

Phonetic Alphabet - feedback

edit

Hi Qwerty#1,

Changes made to your work:
  1. corrected a typo: wisky is spelled 'whisky' (or 'whiskey')
  2. some pics replaced like the little boy (who knows he's called Mike?) and girl (Sierra?)
disclaimer: I'm not a native speaker of English

A new proposal

edit

Hi Qwerty number1, there is currently a proposal at Wikibooks:Reading room/Proposals for non-admins to be given the ability of Suppress redirect and Move subpages. Since you’ve been an active user on Wikibooks for the last thirty day, I thought you might join in by giving feedback/opinion or amendments. Thank you so much for your time Synoman Barris (discusscontribs) 12:47, 14 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
