Summary

Description
English: The first illustration of the "Chronography of 354" (copy, original lost).

A winged Fortuna[1] (or Victory[2]) inscribes a shield with a dedication to the rulers:

"Salvis augustis, felix Valentinus."
(‘Under safe augusti, may Valentinus [the manuscript's owner] prosper.’)
As augustis is the plural of augustus, it is dedicated to “the augusti”: both the Emperor Constantius II (the augustus proper) and Caesar Gallus (a subordinate).[2]
Deutsch: Die Kaiserwidmung: „wenn die Kaiser wohlauf sind, ist Valentinus glücklich.“[3]
