English: Partial excerpt from an article in Penn Central Railroad's employee publication, PC Post(R), announcing the inaugural run of an Amtrak train between Washington and New York on "day one", May 1, 1971. Other Amtrak routes on the Penn Central is shown to the right. Of all Amtrak's train mileage on day one, more than 40% was on the PC. Photo shows then-U.S. Secretary of Transportation John Volpe and Amtrak President Roger Lewis greeting the press.
