Early life
editRichardson was born in Dublin, Ireland, to the actors Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson.[1] He comes from a long line of actors, being the grandson of actress Vanessa Redgrave and filmmaker Tony Richardson.
Career
editAfter appearing alongside Natalie Portman in 2018 film Vox Lux,[2] Richardson insisted on auditioning for a role in Cold Pursuit (2019), a film in which his father Liam Neeson was starring, and a remake of the 2014 Norwegian crime thriller Order of Disappearance. Richardson successfully auditioned for the role of Neeson's character's son.[3]
Richardson starred in Made in Italy (2020), a film about grief and familial relationships, again alongside his father. Both father and son were touched by the script by James D’Arcy and the parallels with their own experiences with grief.[4][5]
Richardson won the lead role in the Sophie Lane Curtis film On Our Way.[6] At the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival in Campania, Italy, in July 2022, the film won the Best Breakout Director of the Year Award for Curtis and the Rising Star Award for Richardson.[7][8][9]
Personal life
editHe has described the pronunciation of his first name thus: "Phonetically, it's me as in myself and then hall as in hallway. So, Me-hall".[10]
After his mother had died in an accident nine years prior, Richardson took her surname in order to honour her and her side of the family.[11]
The pronunciation of his first name was discussed in an interview with him, his father Liam Neeson and Graham Norton (The Graham Norton Show, series 28, episode 23, aired 26 March 2021[12]). Liam Neeson refers to his son as 'my-kall'. He was referring to himself on the show as 'mee-hall'.[citation needed]
