Lead

edit

Per MOS:LEAD, the lead should be a summary of the article, so new information that is only on the lead should be dispersed into the body. Spinixster (chat!) 03:30, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Episode List Inclusion

edit

The list of episodes has been added and removed a few times over the past month. It seems both actions have valid reasons. Given that many television shows have either the episode list or a stand-alone page to show episodes, it doesn't seem consistent to deny this show's list. The argument that this is a game show and a list of contestants and winners is a database should not apply as this is more of a comedic talk show. There is a monologue, the "contestants" are celebrity guests, the points don't matter - because the prizes don't matter.

The episode list should be considered similar to the list of episodes for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert [1] and Whose Line Is It Anyway? [2]. If need be (not recommending, but submitting as a potential compromise), I could see leaving out information about the "Winner", "Runner-up", "Last place", and "Prize" in order to veer away from the main reasons people have for removing all of the information. One column could be for "Contestants" similar to the Whose Line's "Performers" as seen on stage from left to right, or The Late Show's "Guests" in order of appearance. Note also that the Whose Line table indicates that show's "winner(s)" with the name(s) in italics, and that could be done here. Erdrick42 (talk) 19:59, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'd be fine with a list of guests all in one column with the winner in italics then another column for the prize. I listed the occasional fourth "special guests" (non-contestants) in the Format section. TomCat4680 (talk) 20:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Latest episode list removed on 4 September 2024. Maybe have list as a separate wikipedia page, similar to List of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert episodes? --EarthFurst (talk) 06:23, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
See also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of @midnight episodes (2013–14). Perhaps the nominator can be pinged in this discussion, as they are also the one who removed the list. Spinixster (trout me!) 06:44, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would actually support @EarthFurst's proposal, since it would at least help us keep track of the comedians who have joined the show so far; however, I also see the point made by @Spinixster, as well as @Woodensuperman and @RunningTiger123 in the original AfD discussion for @midnight. I maintain that a list of this nature is non encyclopedic and WP:INDISCRIMINATE. This is not what an encyclopedia is for, although I'm sure there are other websites available that allow you to "keep track of the comedians who have joined the show so far". If the main point of a media is to give a platform to a public figure to promote a project/themselves or, in this case, showcase a skill relevant to their main field, than how is keeping a listing of guests/contestants irrelevant ?
If we follow the same logic than Dancing with the stars shouldn't havemore information than the number of seasons and their release date 2A01:E0A:5AE:D920:2179:E92C:B4AB:58BA (talk) 01:23, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, to rephrase what I said in that AfD, I don't think a list of episodes for a show broadcast daily is warranted, as the details of each individual episode become more trivial. We wouldn't list every episode of a soap opera like General Hospital or a game show like Jeopardy! for the same reason. (Actually, Jeopardy! is a good example in contrasts; the syndicated show airs frequently and doesn't warrant an episode list, but the more limited run for something like Jeopardy! Masters means an episode list is more relevant). FWIW, I think late-night talk shows like The Late Show also shouldn't have episode lists, so I don't see that as relevant here. Perhaps this is a much more broader question for episode articles in general, since the removal of the episode table in this article means that other articles should be questioned. Maybe someone should start a discussion for episode articles/tables of this nature overall. Spinixster (trout me!) 04:22, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
