The idea of Gauls to the south of the Garonne is highly contentious on present-day academic standards beyong traditional academia, who by the way has also given pearls like Charlemagne being beaten by the 'Moors' on the Pyrenees in 778 and raised it to academic value. Caesar clearly distinguishes the Aquitani from the Gauls in the Garonne river; Caro Baroja (Los vascones y sus vecinos), an expert on the Vascones and Basques throughout history also points to that distinction between proper Aquitani (Aquitania Tertia) and Gauls for military provisions, as requested by themselves (3-4th century). Archibald Lewis supports the Basques beyond the Garonne for the 8th century. It does not belong in the lede, I added it to a section. Iñaki LL (talk) 14:59, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
