culture prior to the horse culture
editI would like to see articles on native peoples of the plains include a history of their culture before acquisition of the horse. All articles on the plains peoples seems to assume that their history and culture begain in the early to mid 18th century after the horse transformed the culture to a nomadic existence dependent on the buffalo. Were not most of these plains peoples agragrian prior to their acquisition of the horse? How did this affect their legends, relious rights and ceremonies, and their culture generally?
no one cares what u want to see!

Another chunk of history missing?
editSo, did the Arapahoe cease to have history between the time "the Europeans came" and 2005? I imagine much of that history would be shared with every Native American article, but surely some reference to those times should be here? There's a leap in the article from nomadic to reservation life. Don't the curious need to know how? 195.167.165.142 (talk) 13:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Flag and Nation
editis there any Information when they built "official" their Nation? I guess if they have a Flag....? Something like a "Foundation-Day"? -- Hartmann Schedel (talk) 11:59, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
You asked: When did the Arapaho build "officially" their nation? The Arapaho Nation - its land and people - long predates the arrival of European colonists / settlers in North America. -- Gladfelteri (talk) 19:13, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Reference for the Stats
editWhat is the reference for the population stats?--174.91.138.182 (talk) 03:05, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Good question. So I tried to find a reference. I found a 2012 book about Wind River (see Refs) that numbers the modern Arapaho population of Wind River at more than 9000. I did not find a number for the Southern Arapaho (OK) ... yet. So I cited "> 9000" (which is nearly double the 5000 given previously.). Maybe someone could do better at the US Census Bureau?? Arapaho people → Arapaho – _target is redirect to current title, created Feb 27 2011 by Kwami contrary to WP:UNDAB. Arapaho (disambiguation) exists and is in the article's hatnote. Skookum1 (talk) 04:20, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose until the issue is addressed properly. These should be discussed at a centralized location.
- There was a discussion once on whether the ethnicity should have precedence for the name, and it was decided it shouldn't. That could be revisited. But it really should be one discussion on the principle, not thousands of separate discussions at every ethnicity in the world over whether it should be at "X", "Xs", or "X people". — kwami (talk) 12:48, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support per nom. An identified people should be the primary topic of a term absent something remarkable standing in the way. bd2412 T 02:28, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support as per the policy Wikipedia:Article titles#Use commonly recognizable names and the guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ethnicities and tribes). The section Wikipedia:Article titles#Precision also applies given that Arapaho redirects here. There is no need to redo any guideline as it already supports the un-disabiguated title. To add to article
editBasic information to add to this article (in order to help make it more encyclopedic): exactly why the Arapaho were referred to by some neighboring tribes as "dog eaters." Is it because they routinely or occasionally ate dog meat? If so, this merits adding a few words of explanation to the article. 2605:A000:FFC0:5F:F9BD:9D:B97C:57D4 (talk) 02:00, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
