Death

edit

Be aware that a scottish cricket player by the same name died December of last year (2009), these are two different people; as of this post and to the best of my knowledge, the person this article is written about(Asim Butt the artist) is still alive. Actually, Asim Butt is not. He passed away on the morning of Friday, Jan 15th. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.70.146.120 (talk) 14:58, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

source please. Voiceofreason01 (talk) 15:04, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lots of us know him personally. Its unlikely this death will be written about in the papers because of a cultural taboo on suicide —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.229.227.115 (talk) 15:18, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I did find this link but it is a blog and it may not be a reliable enough source for this type of information. I sympathize with all of you who may have known him personally, but especially with (potentially) living people we must have reliable sources for all information we are putting in the article. Apologies to everyone for my previous edits with no explanation. I am new to wikipedia as an editor and was not aware and have only just worked out how to respond. My understanding of an encyclopedia is that it is a 'Reference work that contains information on all branches of knowledge or that treats a particular branch of knowledge comprehensively.' The section on Asim's death is more or a speculative news blurb and is neither authenticated, nor comprehensive. References to his family and to notions of fair play or the lack thereof are entirely inappropriate and unsubstantiated. There is also the issue of timeliness. There are many broken hearts and torn emotions amongst Asim's friends and family. Surely the publication of details around his death can wait until such point that there is certainty. Hearsay belongs in a blog if anywhere at all. Hence I request that if mention of the nature of his death must be made it is restricted to words that sound some what as follows: Reportedly Asim Butt committed suicide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sataninslacks (talkcontribs) 06:44, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I understand the tragedy of this event for those close to Asim Butt. Please note though that we do not initiate material for articles, but merely reproduce material that is already in significant sources in the world at large, which obviously news of the death and purported suicide are. I think this version[1] is sufficient to convey the important aspects. Ty 07:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Guidance for new editors

edit

Please note that all material added to the article should come from reliable sources (this does not include one-person blogs) and be paraphrased—not copied and pasted—to avoid copyright problems. References should be given for the material, following the existing form in the article. Personal opinion and knowledge is not allowed and will be removed. As Wikipedia is an encylopedia, material should be made from an objective viewpoint. Please note that this is not the place for personal tributes. My condolences to friends and family of Asim Butt.
