editI shifted the page here from Bangladesh Islamic Assembly, since the English form of the name is never used. English language media in Bangladesh and abroad refer to the party as "Jamaat". The history of the article can be found here. --Soman 23:22, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
POV instances
editSeveral points in the article need 3rd party citations to prove NPOV. Lot of weasel words and unsubstantiated claims exist. Examples:
- Imam died a few years later, and since then no protests against Jamaat alleging war crimes has occurred.
- [Citation to prove this wrong http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/story-details.php?nid=3] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.216.86.122 (talk) 16:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Jammat strictly follows auditing system in every financial matters in their party, whereas there is no accountability system in other three major parties.
- No other party in Bangladesh is following their own constitution.
The last line and its following sections are lies even because JIB had most problems among the major parties in getting their constitution in line with the EC RPO. Someone needs to start making this article more credible.
The section on JIB's role in the War is also vague. There are some useful excerpts from Mr. Azam's book but they are more fit for his personal page than here.
Jamaat's Role in the Liberation War
editAs far as I'm concerned Rajakar was formed by the Pakistani Army. Would the author look into this please?
Ofcourse but members include Muslim leaguers and Jamatites.
Edit by wisesabre
editI have removed link Gun culture in Pakistan. this link had nothing to do with the article.
and also removed 'is alleged to be a part of the Al-Qaeda network.' because there is no proof of it.You should provide any reasonable proof about this statement.الثاقب (WiseSabre| talk) 15:59, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
No Politics here please
editDo not play the game of politics here, please. Only include what you know for sure. Specially linking Jamaat with bombings and then AL with attacking their own office, well, that is just trying to play down each other. Conspiracy theories should go under the 'conspiracy theory' section, not under normal headings.
Agreed

Sources?
editThere's a lot of assertion in the article, and a distinct lack of sources. Could someone provide these, before this turns into a full-on POV dispute? Alai 17:54, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
This is a partisan/partial entry
editHaving seen the evolution of this page, starting off as an Awami League rant, I doubt the authenticity of this page. No sources, libelous assertions, and basically a charge sheet of the Jamaat. Note this page and the Awami League page
yeah, right:S The whole world is conspiring against jamaat. get your head out of your ass. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghorial (talk • contribs) 00:51, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Restoring NPOV
editThis article is full of shit. I have removed all false allegations against Jamaat to restore NPOV.
"non-Islamic political process such as democracy"
Democracy is not a non-islamic process.
"government which establishes and condones non-Islamic law"
Subjective statement. Non-Islamic laws are not established or condoned here in Bangladesh.
"non-Islamic nationalist and socialist political outfits such as the BNP and the Jatiya Party"
False statements. Who says they are non-Islamic?
"Jamaat ... overtly nationalistic party, whose views and expressions parallel that of Pakistani socialism"
False statements. Period.
"uses the name of Islam as a political facade"
Subjective statement. According to the party manifesto, it wants to ESTABLISH Islam, not to use it. It is clear that "establishing Islam itself in the society" and "using Islam to gain power" are quiet different things.
"however have been ignored by the current government"
Confusing statement. The current government is no authority to deny such allegations.
"Jamaat's political branch in Pakistan"
JI Bangladesh and JI Pakistan are independent organisations. They are not branches as there is no instrumental link. Both however, are subscriber of same ideology.
" Rajakar also raped women aged upto 60. At least 10,000 women were raped by them. Children born by this were taken taken to Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity at calcutta or adopted by Canada-US-Europe families."
Such historical claims require citation of historic documents and references.
"... victims were young ..."
And old, too.
several Jamaat leaders fled to West Pakistan. Golam Azam fled on 3rd December
False statement. No Jamaat leader fled to EP. Golam Azam came to Dhaka from London. But he was not allowed an entry here. Then he flew to Pakistan as he only had a Pakistani passport to claim his citizenship.
"introduced multiparty democracy in order to use Islamic sentiment to country"
LOL! How come democracy can be introduces to "use" Islamic sentiment?
"... still has strong ties with Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan ... mastermind behind a series of deadly terrorist attacks ... against ... foregners and minorities ..."
False statements. These are not qualified even as allegations!
Lets keep Bangladeshi Wiki pages free from the country's usual, debilitating partisan politics
editOnce again this page has been vandalised by partisan Awami Leaguers. All the sources cited here are from pro-Awami League sources. This is not neutral and defies Wikis definition of neutrality. Check pervious versions. If it was neutral, it would give Jamaat's side of the story.

editYou can’t revert other people’s edits without reasons. I will be happy to talk to you about my edit, please tell me where you disagree. One of the reasons why Jamaat-e-Islami is gaining popularity, which is a fact, is because they are seen as the least corrupt party by most Bangladeshis. This is one of fact that many Western journalists and anti-Islamic-fundamentalist mentions. This is an encyclopedia, therefore this has to be mentioned as one of the reasoning why Jamaat-e-Islami is gaining popularity.
You may think I am being bias toward Jamaat-e-Islami but look at my entire edits. I deleted many things that favor Jamaat-e-Islami because it creates NPOV and this is an encyclopedia, those individual stories don't belong here. I deleted
"After the Four-Party Alliance handed over power to the caretaker government, on the 28th of October, 4 Jaamat workers were mercilessly killed by Awami League workers in front of the media. The whole world bore witness to the merciless killings. The daily star also printed a picture showing a Jaamat worker with a gun, but it was later revealed that the image was taken on the 22nd of April, not on the 28th of October, proving the partiality of the media."
I deleted this sentece which also favors Jamaat-e-Islami, The Mukti Bahini was responsible for the killing of many people, including Jaamat members and Biharis.
I deleted because it is not accurate because Mukti Bahini in general didn't _target Jaamat members, they _targeted traitors which may happens to be Jaamat members. Tarikur 18:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
jamaat is fully an islamic party
editjamaat is fully an islamic party. so jamaat act for islam. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.108.19.7 (talk) 11:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC).
It is false that Jamaat did not participate in 1986 elections. Parvez
A "facist party" in disguise? This is the party that campaigned for a caretaker government. This is the party that chooses it's leaders who are not related to it's previous leader, unlike both Awami League and BNP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.87.255.18 (talk) 12:37, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- @146.87.255.18 You are correct. BangladeshiEditorInSylhet (talk) 10:13, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
So...
edit...the party clearly exists, so it's not a hoax in that sense. Who tagged it as a "hoax" and why? Keep in mind that that adds it to CAT:HOAX, which makes it appear that the ENTIRE ARTICEL is a load of nonsense. 68.39.174.238 20:09, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

BBC article on war crimes
edithttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-15794246 This material seems relevant to this topic given the arrests, including the leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, in relation to the war crimes. 124.168.72.97 (talk) 02:34, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
Article needs objectivity
editI have just read some of the article. I never heard of this party until today, when I saw it mentioned in a news article and wondered what I could learn from Wikipedia. I have no opinion about it. I am not South Indian and have no axe to grind. Nevertheless, I was immediately struck by the lack of objectivity in the introduction, as well as the lack of citations. I believe this article needs a careful, thorough, and objective rewrite. I hope there is someone who knows enough about Bangladesh and published sources, and is not politically involved, who can do that. Zaslav (talk) 07:54, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Zaslav, thanks for noticing the fact. Like most of the other Bangladesh related articles, this article doesn't maintain the wikipedia rules. Specially it is very poor in citation. I wish if I manage time, I can improve this article.--Freemesm (talk) 12:08, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Reversion of legitimate edits and RS
editFreemesm, this article is marked with several banners to identify its many weaknesses, but you reverted my edits, including content supported by RS, which were an effort to introduce more neutral tone and factual accounts. This article does not belong to you alone. I worked to improve the tone, add cites to unsourced material, improve formatting and try to bring more shape to the article. Can the section on Bangladesh lslami Chatra Shibir be removed since there is already a page dedicated for Shibir?
editI believe that adding the section on Shibir here is inappropriate since it may be explored in detail as a separate page on Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. If the forum members have no meaningful objection, I would like to remove the section and keep Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in a "See Also" section. --Mohammad Hossain 16:23, 20 August 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Husain007 (talk • contribs)

Salik misinterpreted
editI have moved the following paragraph from the article to here because it misrepresents the source:
During the Bangladesh Liberation War, a by-election was ordered by the military administration of West Pakistan; it appointed Rao Farman Ali in charge. Ali wanted to reward the rightist political parties who helped the army and awarded 44 seats to Jamaat.[1]
Salik says Jamaat-i-Islami bid for 44 seats, but six other parties bid for seats too, 193 bids for 78 seats. Major-General Farman "tried to work out a formula to satisfy all [the rightists]" but Salik doesn't say how many seats he eventually distributed to Jamaat.
The lasting importance of the by-election is questionable. It was never completed because the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 intervened. It might have interest as evidence that Jamaat cooperated with the army, as an example of Jamaat's opportunism during the Bangladesh Liberation War, or as the high water mark of their political aspirations. I have no objection to a paragraph on the topic being included, but it needs more information and context than is available from Salik. A starting point might be this news blog, but academic sources meeting WP:HISTRS would be preferred. --Worldbruce (talk) 17:36, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
