Claimed
edit"She is claimed by her current followers to have been influential in the early development of Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism through her friendship with Rand. However, no evidence exists to support the assertion that she contributed anything to the substance of Objectivism."
What evidence is there that she has followers who claim that? Michael Hardy 17:28, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
What is Barbara's maiden name? Where is she from? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.71.21.44 (talk • contribs).
- Originally she was Barbara Weidman (or maybe Weidmann?). She's from Winnipeg. Michael Hardy 20:42, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Objectivist Living
editI included a link to www.objectivistliving.com on this page and you removed it. This was not merely advertising. Our site, Objectivist Living, is the only forum on the Internet where Barbara regularly posts. It is her forum "home." I believe the inclusion of the link is pertinent to the subject matter.
May I repost the link?
Michael
- I don't know who you mean by "you"; I suppose the edit history would indicate that. I personally have no objection to that link. Go ahead and put it back---then if the person who removed wants to dispute the point, he can post on this talk page. Michael Hardy 03:05, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
May I have a Second Opinion
editThere is an editor who seems to be _targeting the removal of links to Objectivist Living, accusing me of linkspam. I suspect an anti-Branden bias (although he claimed differently). Could we please discuss this with other editors? The link on this particular page received a pass a while back before being deleted by him. Michael Stuart Kelly 21:06, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have no anti-Branden bias and I know little about Objectivist polemics. One merely has to look at Mr Kelly's edit history to see that he has engaged in no other activity on WP than adding a link to his personal forum to sundry articles, a classic case of linkspam. CRCulver 22:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Whether its his forum or someone else's does not matter if it's clearly relevant to the articles. In this case it is. The topic of this article, Barbara Branden, has a current internet presence ONLY on the Objectivist Living forum. Michael Hardy 01:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- No, it does matter. WP does not look kindly on people linking to their own sites, "relevant" or not. Haven't you seen the Spam1/2/3 templates? CRCulver 01:49, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Well now I have linked to it, and it's not my site. One should be somewhat more cautious when it's one's own site. WP does not look kindly on being used ONLY to advertise a site in that way. But if it helps the article, that's another matter. Notice that Michael Stuart Kelly stated specific reasons why it does help the article. In my view, those reasons should be rebutted before you say it's ONLY to advertise his site. In this case I think it's clear that it does help the article, rather than being added only to advertise the site. Michael Hardy 01:59, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Michael Hardy. The link to Objectivist Living does not work because there is an extra "/" in the URL (three ///). Here is how it appears below. I changed "[http" to "[ h*ttp" so it will not appear as a link, but as the URL instead.
- [ h*ttp:///www.objectivistliving.com/ Objectivist Living] — an internet forum to which Barbara Branden regularly posts.
I would change the url in the article for it to have only two slashes instead of three, but I am afraid that if I alter it, this will give rise to more acusations of linkspam or blocking me or something. Can this be corrected? The link is not functional the way it is. Michael Stuart Kelly 03:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Nationality
editBarbara Branden was born in Winnipeg, but lived in the USA from around 1950 until 2013. Was she a naturalized American? Michael Hardy (talk) 00:54, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Possibly, but I'm not sure there is a reliable source to cite about it. --RL0919 (talk) 01:40, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Secret affair?
editI fail to see how the Rand-Branden affair could be secret and also known by both spouses. It maybe not have been shared with many others, but that doesn’t qualify it as secret. Oxford American Dictionary defines secret as "not known or seen or not meant to be known or seen by others.” Nicmart (talk) 22:49, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
