Habitat

edit

I deleted the Arabian Sea from the habitat list. Even though it's listed here http://www.tonycoenobita.com/species_eng.htm, the map of the website shows the correct distribution of the species. Jedediah667 (talk) 10:42, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Any other sources? Mech Aaron (talk) 19:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm still looking for a good cource that lists the complete distribution area, but all sources I found that list the Arabian Sea seem to have copied it from TonyCoenobita (exactly the same wording). I also couldn't find anything else on C. clypeatus living anywhere in Africa, just the other areas listed in the article Jedediah667 (talk) 10:46, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image

edit

Since the page is lacking one, I have uploaded and inserted a photograph of one of my hermit crabs. I am not a hermit crab expert, but I believe the crab is a Caribbean hermit crab. If you are an expert and believe this to be incorrect, please feel free to remove the image, and/or comment on it, and/or give me a stern talking to, or all of the above. Also, as this is an indoor photo, please feel free to replace it with an outdoor photo of the crab in his natural elements --AbsolutDan (talk) 03:18, 31 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, we appreciate your work. However, there is now a recent image in the taxobox, and your image was moved to a thumb frame. It describes that this species is nocturnal, which sets your image a good example (since it has a dark background). ZooFari 00:33, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yup, makes sense. --AbsolutDan (talk) 02:29, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, its been here since 2006, but I wasn't thinking of abandon it forever :) ZooFari 03:21, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Feeding

edit

"land hermit crabs should not be fed commercial foods as they are toxic to the hermit crab"

What do you mean? Do you mean people food, or processed hermit crab food? I own a hermit crab of my own and I dont want it to die. 66.30.100.140 (talk) 15:57, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

That has been taking care of. No, commercial foods aren't toxic, and this type of info shouldn't even be here. ZooFari 00:30, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Size?

edit

Can someone find actual measurements for this species? Size, mass, etc? It's considered "big", but what does that mean? Mokele (talk) 21:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I have caribbean hermit crabs myself, so I will measure one of my miniature, medium, large, and when I get one, a jumbo. You may expect 2 measurements soon. Happy editing, ZooFari 21:48, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
