To my knowledge, Cussler has not appeared/'held' any book signings since mid-to-late 2016. At one of the last ones I attended in late 2015 / early 2016, it seemed/appeared to me that he had a little difficulty 'getting with the flow' at the start of the book signing session, but seemed to improve at time passed.

'Normally,' when a new book comes out, a local (Scottsdale, AZ) bookstore holds a signing/release 'party', but it hasn't held one in over a year and there have been at least three books released.

Though he's not a spring chicken, I'm curious if there might be a medical reason why he has not made any public appearances in over a year.

Also, would this be article-worthy? 2600:8800:786:A300:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 03:09, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Can someone, please, get a better photo/pic of Clive ? ? ? 2600:8800:784:8F00:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 01:51, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I added to wikimedia commons a picture of Cussler I took in 2004 when he came to Paris. The quality is not good, but maybe it's good enough for a thumbnail? I let you choose if it's better than the current photo or not : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clive_Cussler_2004.jpg --Frédéric Neupont (talk) 10:13, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wiki image policy confuses the hell out me, but I found this one from 2005 in the Guardian's obituary, so I assume that qualifies as being in the public domain. https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/2c0958ad819673c7a47d5d4cfdb99f2432d8e291/0_0_3008_1806/master/3008.jpg?width=1920&quality=85&auto=format&fit=max&s=b1d11a46ac91277e9d8f5c3c1193c9a0 douts (talk) 15:41, 16 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Tone & NPOV

edit

Goodness, but this sounds flak or fan-written. Encyclopedia articles not only should, but must, list accomplishments and acclaim when it is significant. Significance has to be assessed on scarcity at the time (how uncommon was it to win this placement/prize compared to how many sought it? (aka "competitive")) and repute inside a field and outside of a field (e.g. everyone reports on a Nobel or Field medal win; a top honor from the IEEE may not be as reported/famous outside of electrical engineers, but it would be very significant within).

What isn't of particular significance these days, in particular, is achieving any best seller/top 40 list. These things matter in a way, but this is predicated on the ad populis notion that the opinion of the masses is an assessment of value (the Ford F-150 is the #1 selling truck in the USA for decades; is it the best truck? is it the most affordable? is it the most available?).

Anecdotes of the early married life? The "struggles?" These are celebrations. Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with such language in a public relations or advertising copy, but it adds bulk to an encyclopedia article without helping with an encyclopedia article's purpose. 1. Why is this person important to others? 2. Why is this person important to me? 3. How did this person, who is/was just a normal human, become important? 4. What substantial effects are left by the passage of this individual (in the case of a bio. piece)?

There is a lot of admiration that needs to be trimmed. Hithladaeus (talk) 12:58, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Symbols

edit

The book lists have lots of symbols — *, †, ††, § etc. I assume that they indicate the various co-authors, but there is no key — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 20:49, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the section "Fargo Adventures" most of the links refer back to the section head; there are no articles about the books. Is there any legitimate reason for this, or shall I delete these links? J S Ayer (talk) 01:40, 11 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
