Talk:Conservation and restoration of frescos

Tracey, I think this will be a great addition to Wikipedia because there are several articles on fresco restoration projects, but they are quite cumbersome (especially the Sistine Chapel one). A article like this makes it much easier to understand fresco conservation. I think your intro section is pretty good the way it is. I think it provides enough information about what a fresco is without covering too much of the same information that is covered in the rather extensive "Fresco" article. You should also try to link your article to the "Fresco" one, since the conservation section on that page could be a lot better. Your preventative care section sounds like a good opportunity to link to other conservation themed pages that we looked at over the semester, which is great. A material list of conservation supplies (like the list you have of fresco materials) might also make a good addition. Looking forward to reading the finished article! Tracey, this looks like it will shape up to be a great article. I think your breakdown is clear and you've covered all the necessary topics. I wonder if it might be worth mentioning as well the process of detaching frescoes from their surfaces and relocating them. I know that this is something that is done, and I think it can potentially be an important step in their care in some instances. My only other comment would be to search out some more sources. I don't know how trusted it can be, but here is a page discussing removal of frescoes that at least introduces some methods (http://www.museobenozzogozzoli.it/technics/StrappoDetachment.html).
