Requested move 10 April 2023
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was:
- Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt is not moved. Participants in the discussion widely agreed that Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt is the established name for this event in the historiography.
- Carinthian Peasant Revolt resulted in no consensus. Speaking strictly numerically, most participants in the discussion either supported a form of this move or simply did not weigh in on it. However, the opposition to this move expressed concern that this was the only Carinthian peasant revolt described by that name, and thus that adding the year to this move would be excessively WP:PRECISE. This argument was disputed on the grounds that the Slovene peasant revolt of 1515 also occurred in Carinthia. These arguments seem to me to be of comparable strength, and the arguments used similar levels of evidence, leading me to find no consensus on this topic.
- (No prejudice to a subsequent RM on the Carinthian Peasant Revolt, as a more narrowly focused discussion might yield greater participation.)
- Slovene Peasant Revolt is moved. Consensus emerged around the nominator's argument that a date was needed for clarity here.
- Slovene peasant revolt (disambiguation) is moved. Here too, consensus emerged in favor of the move. Since consensus had formed around the argument that the Slovene peasant revolt of 1515 needed a date appended for clarity, the implicit argument was made that the 1515 revolt was not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Slovene peasant revolt". Because of this, a consensus emerged that the primary title should devolve onto the disambiguation page.
Near the end of the discussion, it was proposed that the revolt articles be retitled in the form [year] [revolt name]
rather than [revolt name] of [year]
. However, this proposal did not attract significant discussion, so where I found consensus to move I have opted to move to the title originally proposed in the nomination. (non-admin closure) ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 14:53, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt → Peasant revolt of 1573
- Carinthian Peasant Revolt → Carinthian peasant revolt of 1478
- Slovene Peasant Revolt → Slovene peasant revolt of 1515
- Slovene peasant revolt (disambiguation) → Slovene peasant revolt
– None of the current titles are proper names. None are clear and unambiguous, although the first comes closest. In each case the date is critical. I do not believe we should use "Croatian–Slovene", since it is (a) too artificial and (b) unheard of in RS not following WP. I am open to suggestions. - I don't mind adding the year or changing the capitalisation, but Croatian–Slovene peasant revolt is the established name in the relevant literature.[1][2] --TadejM my talk 02:38, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Likewise, the first item is the only one where I have objections. --Killuminator (talk) 16:26, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- I would also like to add that Josip Hatringer's book is also titled Hrvatsko-slovenska seljačka buna godine 1573. (Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt of 1573.) Franjo Tahy (talk) 16:24, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: titles should be descriptive and reflect WP:COMMONNAME in reliable English-language sources. "Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt" is on point - descriptive, common name from what I can tell, unambigous, and the proposed new name is opposite of that. There was only one "Carinthian Peasant Revolt" going by that name so any further details like years are excess. Current titles also reflect Slovene Wikipedia's, so I presume they are common names in Slovene-language sources as well (also per above comments with RS proof). "Slovene Peasant Revolt" can have a hatnote to the other three pages though (outgoing pageviews). –Vipz (talk) 17:40, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- "Croatian–Slovene peasant revolt" is a translation from Slovene historiography and seems to reflect modern concerns more than contemporary ones. And if "Croatian–Slovene peasant revolt" is a good descriptive title, then "Slovene peasant revolt" clearly is not. And since the Slovene peasant revolt of 1515 also took place in Carinthia, "Carinthian peasant revolt" is clearly a bad descriptive title. No common name exists for any of these events in English historiography (the only one that matters for talking about names in English). Srnec (talk) 23:26, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose the first, support the last. Move Carinthian Peasant Revolt to 1478 Carinthian peasant revolt and Slovene Peasant Revolt to 1515 Slovene peasant revolt for consistency with 1323–1328 Flemish revolt. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:02, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
