NWA breakup

edit

The article currently says:

After the break up of N.W.A. in 1991, Yella was the only member to stay loyal to Eazy-E.

However, as far as I know, MC Ren also sided with Eazy-E after the breakup, remaining on Ruthless Records and even getting Eazy-E to produce his 1992 debut solo album. --Delirium 02:23, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

MC Ren left Eazy-E some time after the break up. --Tasco 0 17:12, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
MC Ren stayed in Ruthless and appeared on a couple of Eazy's songs in his last album, but I wouldn't consider him that much of being a sidekick for Eazy as much as Yella. --Flesh-n-Bone 20:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removed Trivia

edit

I removed the entire trivia section. It was all false info anyways...68.164.80.10 01:42, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you show some source? Mean while, I'll revert your version since I believe it's true. --Tasco 0 01:58, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:DJ Yella.jpg

edit

Image:DJ Yella.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

what race is he?

edit

white, black, or spanish? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deananoby2 (talkcontribs) 23:14, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

I unno man, i think he white or spanish cuz i heard him talk on an interview, he don't sound too african-american, more spanish. I think N.W.A as in Niggaz Wit Attitude, i would think Nigga as in gangsta's not the old term. Cuz Most of compton's gangsta's are latin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.96.84.200 (talk) 03:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The name clearly (Antoine Carraby) is not hispanic or anglo. The man is a light skinned african-american or multi-racial. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.89.84.84 (talk) 10:25, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I dont know if this convo is still open but I know that Yella is Black or African American. Just look at his picture on the N.W.A page. STAT -Verse 03:35, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

He is obviously black, just look up images of him on Google. However, he most likely has some white or Hispanic ancestry. MB298 (talk) 23:22, 21 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Drumming

edit

Did DJ Yella ever play drums? Is that line from "Two Hard Mutha Fuckas" from NWA when he gave that nigga some sticks for real...or not? Because if he was playing drums on that track - he was a hard mutha fucker.

Dizzee Dac

edit

"Along with Dre, Yella produced Eazy-E's debut album Eazy-Duz-It and all three N.W.A albums including one by rapper Dizzee Dac"

Is this artist or album even real? I cannot find any info on it anywhere???

Birthdate

edit

While the day of the year in the article appears to be correct, the year may be wrong. Britannica [1] has the date as 1961. In his autobiography, some of which you can view on Amazon [2], he describes being 4 years old in 1965, consistent with Britannica. Library of Congress lists 1967, but appears to source it to Wikipedia. (Britannica agrees on the day of the year, and in the autobiography he says December 4th is 7 days before his birthday.) The birthdate was added by an IP editor in the early days of Wikipedia, and has never been sourced that I can see. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 16:14, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

The Britannica source is clear, though a little iffy per WP:RSP. For the autobiography, I want to give specific references (for paperback version): on p9, he says "How 'bout 1965? Let's start at age 4." On p176, he says "On December 4, 1995, seven days before my birthday, ..." On p24, he shows his senior picture, dated to 1980 and a 1979-80 senior year of high school. Focus on Yella

edit

I feel like the line:

"…released about a year after his death in 1995 from AIDS

about Eazy's cause of death seems to be out of place here. Including "from AIDS" seems somewhat unnecessary on a page dedicated to DJ Yella. The fact, as it is written, does not add to the story of Yella. It seems forced and out of place. Maybe it's just how I'm reading it, but I wanted to bring it to the board to see if anyone else agrees. To me, omitting "from AIDS" makes the wiki more about the subject, without compromising anything else. Either way, I enjoyed reading through it. Makes me miss the old days. BigBallsLucy (talk) 07:42, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@BigBallsLucy: I agree that the mention of AIDS is not very relevant, though I don't feel mentioning it really does any harm. Feel free to remove if you like. JBW (talk) 08:51, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think that the point here is that his death was very sudden: from his diagnosis to death was about a month. I will tweak to deemphasize AIDS and emphasize sudden. Perhaps this might make BigBallsLucy happier? I'll also add a WaPo source, which credits DJ Yella with finishing 7 of the tracks on the album, but not all of them.
