Citations Needed
edit- This article could use some additional citations, which should be easily found via dictionary sites. I'll take a look when I have a chance and see what I can find. BU Rob13 (talk) 04:51, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Proposed merge with List of English words of Niger-Congo origin
editEnglish words of Niger-Congo origin are a subset of English words of African origin. Yet, the Niger-Congo list contains many words that aren't in the African list. So those should all be copied to the African list. But, then, the list of African words will have only six terms on it that aren't on the Niger-Congo list.
So, I find two factors in favor of a merger: (1) The two lists, once the Africa list is expanded to include the words it lacks from the Niger-Congo list, will be nearly the same anyway. (2) The fact that the Niger-Congo list as so many words that aren't on the Africa list demonstrates that this bifurcation is creating a maintenance problem. re: Merger and Citations
editI have copied all the entries from List of English words of Niger-Congo origin to this file and added a few inline citations to some entries. Many of the words are wiki linked to articles with etymologies, so I haven't been comprehensive with citations. And I've left the List of English words of Niger-Congo origin article as it is because it distinguishes between language groups, which this article does not. Kijiji?
editKijiji is not a recognised word in any English dictionary; it links to the advertising website whose name is notably not considered a word. Are there sufficient grounds to remove this? pluckyporo (talk • contribs) 02:42, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
