Old WPATH 7 requirements does not match the current WPATH 8 requirements

edit

the reference to WPATH 7 in the requirements section does not match the current WPATH 8 recommendations that are also listed on Transgender health care#Gender-affirming care.

Pyschotherapy and a letter from a qualified healthcare professional is no longer a recommended requirement.

on the FAQ for WPATH SoC 8 p.2 it is summed up as

"There are new and strong recommendations for:

...

Modifying the criteria for medical interventions from previous versions to eliminate unnecessary barriers to care. The new criteria are balanced with greater emphasis on individualized assessment, treatment planning, and clinician training including TGD-specific continuing education. Other modifications to the criteria include:

○ requiring only one letter from a provider,

○ removing minimum age requirements,

○ lowering requirements for hormonal treatment before surgical interventions, and

○ removing requirements for living in desired gender role;"

the current recommended requirements for adults to start gender-affirming medicinal treatment as on the WPATH Standards of Care 8 PDF document statement 5.5 p.40 is

"We recommend transgender and gender diverse adults who fulfill the criteria for gender-affirming medical and surgical treatment require a single opinion for the initiation of this treatment from a professional who has competencies in the assessment of transgender and gender diverse people wishing gender-related medical and surgical treatment

...

Consequently, if written documentation or a letter is required to recommend gender-affirming medical and surgical treatment (GAMST), TGD people seeking treatments including hormones, and genital, chest, facial and other gender-affirming surgeries require a single written opinion/signature from an HCP competent to independently assess and diagnose (Bouman et al., 2014; Yuan et al, 2021). Further written opinions/signatures may be requested where there is a specific clinical need."

Psychotherapy is no longer a part of the recommended requirements as expressed on statement 18.9 p.175

"We recommend health care professionals should not make it mandatory for transgender and gender diverse people to undergo psychotherapy prior to the initiation of gender-affirming treatment, while acknowledging psychotherapy may be helpful for some transgender and gender diverse people."
