University of Manila in Spanish

edit

Since this university is Universidad de Manila in Spanish and possible Portuguess, this is going to create a lot of mixups in the translations. *groan* <:( --Jondel 08:11, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is it University in Manila or Unversity of Manila? What does "de" mean?--Howard the Duck 09:20, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

De means 'of' . When translated into Spanish, there are three universities that indicate University of Manila:Universidad de Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and University of Manila.--Jondel 13:45, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lol. How can you distinguish them? Although I think PLM translates as "University of the City of Manila", so that's off the hook. --Howard the Duck 15:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

yes. Including 'city' would help to distinguish one university. I think I will not translate the name and use the exact name used .--Jondel 15:56, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sports team?

edit

What do they call UDM's sports teams? --Howard the Duck 13:26, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

MUCH BETTER IF NO MAYOR(S) IN MANILA WOULD (ATTEMPT IF SO /OR ) RENAMED AGAIN OF THE ABOVE SCHOOL. IT IS VERY AWKWARD COMPARE TO ITS SISTER SCHOOL AND OTHER STATE UNIVERSITIES IN MANILA COZ OTHER SCHOOLS ARE RETAINED IN THEIR ORIGINAL NAME.STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED FROM THIS SCHOOL WOULD POSSIBLY GET CONFUSED WHAT NAME THEY WOULD CONSIDER/RECOGNIZE.AND WHAT IS THE ESSENCE OF CHANGING THE NAME OF THIS SCHOOL? IS THAT REALLY UPGRADING THE STANDARDS OF LEARNING OF THE STUDENTS OR A MATTER OF POPULARITY IN PART OF POLITICIAN WHO GOVERNS THE CITY?? --desdy_palikero —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.124.139.4 (talk) 06:37, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mayor Alfredo Lim expressed intentions of changing the school's name to Gat Andres Bonifacio University, however, this plan actually did not materialize. Instead, he reverted to its original name -- City College of Manila (CCM). In addition, the Commission on Higher Education, according to the official city government website, disallowed the school to confer graduate degrees http://www.manila.gov.ph/ccm.htm; perhaps, this is another reason that they had to change its name back to CCM. I hope the administrator can help me move the article's name back to City College of Manila. Richard Relucio (talk) 14:50, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Alright friends, so what's the consensus here? Should it be Gat Andrés Bonifacio University, Universidad de Manila or City College of Manila? If as stated by Richard Relucio the school was not authorized to confer graduate degrees, then perhaps City College of Manila would be the proper name. If there are no objections within the next seven days, I shall proceed to move the article. Aclarado (talk) 07:15, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Gat Andrés Bonifacio UniversityCity College of Manila — Official website refers to it as the "City College of Manila", not Gat Andrés Bonifacio University (see it here: http://www.manila.gov.ph/ccm.htm). Aclarado (talk) 16:14, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
