Proposed Expansion

Hello, I am a student at Rice University, and I am planning once again to expand this article as part of an assignment for my Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities course. My current plan of revision and expansion is written below, and any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on adding a new section on the history of gender inequality in Mexico to the beginning of the article to provide context, and to address past, current, and proposed legislation affecting gender equality. I will expand each of current subsections of current issues section- political participation and pay gap (which will be folded into a larger section on economics). For the political participation section, I will add information about the disparity between female political representation and population. The work life economics section will contain a breakdown on the wage gap between genders as well as information on gendered poverty. In addition, information on women in the workforce and information on internalized bias in hiring will be added. Further information on the effects of gender roles and norms on gender inequality will be added to the new social life section, including the effects of the division on household labor.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Baileybrash (talk • contribs) 19:42, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

Proposed expansion and reorganization

Hi! Like the previous poster, I am also a student at Rice University and I am also looking to expand and reorganize this article as a part of an assignment for my Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities course. I would like to add more significant information, like gender statistics and global rankings, and organize the page in a way that distinguishes between economic, educational, health, and political inequalities, similar to the organization of the Gender inequality in India article. As an update, I am still planning to edit this page for my project. I still plan to majorly overhaul the article's organization in order to clarify the differences in types of inequalities. I also plan to add gender statistics and global rankings in order to provide a broader context of gender inequality in Mexico compared to the rest of the world. I have also added an annotated bibliography to my sandbox. Owlettes Great job restructuring and expanding on this article! In particular, the statistics that you added are very useful. Moving forward I would consider reformatting the first image in the article and combining the global rankings and statistics sections. Additionally, some of the statistics you added may be somewhat archaic to the layperson (“ILO method”, “modeled”, etc.). That said, I think you’ve made excellent progress, best of luck with your editing!

Talk Page Comments: I was really impressed by how much you improved this article! The table really impressed me. I also think that the organization you did makes the article much more ergonomic and easy to understand. The explanation added to the “Global Rankings” section is a great contribution. Lastly, the list of sources seems incredibly thorough, and seems to provide many interesting perspectives. I realized that many of my comments about content that could be reworded or revised come from sections that you didn’t yet edit. Also, the sections about inequality that you reorganized but didn’t edit have less generally less information than the sections you did create. Especially because your sources seem so interesting and multi-faceted, I think adding more information to these sections that you haven’t added to yet could be very helpful for improving the page.
