Move?

edit

Perhaps this page would be better put at George Augustus Sala, as he seemed never himself to use his second middle name of Henry. I have seen his quotes on the web (well, really, just one), but only as G.A. Sala. Is there any disagreement? (Also, would we apply this to his wikiquote page if moved?) —OverMyHead 19:39, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The ODNB entry on Sala notes that although born George Augustus Henry Fairfield Sala, he abandoned the 'Henry Fairfield' part of his name on reaching adulthood, possibly because:

'His natural father was almost certainly Captain Charles Fairfield, who stood as his godfather assuming the forename Henry. Fairfield left the army and married in 1830; he inherited a life interest in his wife's estate in co. Kerry after her death. Sala's legal father, Augustus John James Sala (1792–1829), a dancing-master of Italian descent, died less than nine months after George's birth. Before and after her husband's death Henrietta Sala made a precarious living as a singer, singing teacher, and actress. From the age of twenty-one Sala ceased to use the names Henry and Fairfield, perhaps because his mother then told him who his father was.'

If we follow the ODNB in this, it may also be necessary to remove Sala from the category of English people of Italian descent. We could though add him to the category of English people of West Indian descent, as his mother was a grand-daughter of the noted Demeraran entrepreneur Dorothy Thomas.RLamb (talk) 08:36, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Opening paragraph

The page doesn't really introduce reasons why this guy was notable first up. It kind of just reads like a life story before you actually discover why he deserves a wikipedia entry. Perhaps it should mention it right at the top. --Biatch (talk) 01:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
