untitled
editSomeone has inserted {fact} in several places in this page. It looks like a wiki-tag but it renders as text. I've never seen this before. Can we work out what they mean and correct it?
I'm compiling this article based on the Pakistan internet censorship article, please don't delete it as its in the process of being put together, thank you. please state changes made/reverts/etc. on discussion page first. ATM, blogspot.com and typepad.com are being blocked from inside India. Aembuldeniya 05:01, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm confused by this, is this article about india or pakistan? Much of the content seems to be about pakistan. --Xyzzyplugh 14:19, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Clarifications before merge
editConsidering that the topic headings differ only in the capitalization of "c" in censorship, I think we can and should merge the articles.
Banning undernet
editThe reference given for the section of "Banning undernet" i some blog post. The blogger says "it is inaccessible", NEVER mentioning that it is officially blocked. Also, the blogger specifically mentions only the Airtel ISP.
Moreover, today (i.e. 4th January 2009) I can easily access undernet from my IRC client. With that in view, I am deleting the mentioned section. Please correct me if I am wrong.

- Games like Poker are not (completely) regarded as gambling since they require considerable skill to play and win. Bans usually apply to games that are more luck than skill. Also this isn't the right place to discuss whether something should be banned or not. 59.184.8.48 (talk) 18:47, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
Controversial segment in the article..
editVimeo and The Pirate Bay websites are not blocked all over the india.. The inline citations show that only Reliance Communiations Ltd., blocked these websites, though they put a banner "This site is blocked as per the instructions from Department of Telecommunciation". Give authenticate information about the blocks and explain why many other ISPs are not blocking? --117.201.47.36 (talk) 06:57, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
How easy is it to use proxy servers to bypass blocking of any website?
editThe following change was made to the lead of the article earlier today:
- Before: However, websites blocked either by the government or Internet service providers can often be accessed through proxy servers (see Internet censorship circumvention).
- After: However, any websites blocked either by the government or Internet service providers can easily be accessed through proxy servers (see Internet censorship circumvention).
Which statement is more accurate? Is it really easy to use a proxy server to bypass blocking of any website? Does this work when both the blocked website and the end user are located in India? --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 11:57, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
- Done. I restored the wording in the lead to the "before" version. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 12:19, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
buydomains.com is opening in india, but in this article they wrote it as blocked.
editpls update this article "Internet censorship in India" under domain hosting site section they wrote it as "Domain hosting sites like buydomains.com have been banned" but it is opening in india. Ram nareshji (talk) 10:13, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Done. I made a change along the lines suggested. There were sources that verified that the sites were blocked at one time. Someone with more direct knowledge of the situation should review the revised section. It would be good if there was a source to confirm the reopening of these sites. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 14:20, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
why there is no section created for bayimg.com website banned in india?
editwhy there is no section created for bayimg.com website banned in india? only image was provided for bayimg.com website banned in india Ram nareshji (talk) 16:59, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- Does someone have a source that tells when, why, and by whom bayimg.com was blocked? --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 19:05, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Not done. Without a reliable published source to cite, no addition to the article was made. As stated above, Bayimg.com is mentioned in a caption to a screenshot that is included in the article. The caption reads: "Bayimg.com blocked by orders of Department of Telecom on BSNL broadband network in India as of 13 September 2012". It would still be good to add a citation to a reliable source, if one can be found. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 13:18, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Please add that Indian Government put blanket ban on 39 smut sites

- Done. I added a new sub-section that contains information from the Times of India article. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 13:04, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

content removed by calling it "trivial"
editthis shows how someone deleted my additions by calling them "trivial". Isn't it ironic that we are writing about censorship in India and newsworthy information that needs to be said is being censored and suppressed by calling it "trivial"? isn't the whole point of this page to list out instances of internet censorship in India because that is exactly what my addition was doing? i had proper citations for all instances and instead of improving upon or even correcting it somehow if it was incorrectly written, the editor goes about deleting the entire thing. How does this editor decide what is trivial or not? internet being snapped for weeks on end in the name of "national security" is trivial? Mhveinvp (talk) 06:05, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

- The report appears to be disputed. Unless there's additional media coverage, it probably doesn't merit mention yet. [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rolf h nelson (talk • contribs)

- That's a good suggestion. Most of the sources we refer to in the article are news, and we should include more scholarly sources. Wikiuser13 (talk) 13:44, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Accessibility of websites from outside India is limited
editI am aregular visitor of Indian websites because of my interest in Indian politics. For quite some years I have noticed that it becomes increasingly difficult to access these websites from outside India. Often you get an error message such as "network connection error" or "connection timeout", "access forbidden", or similar. This occurs with quite normal websites such as the Census of India websites, the Indian Election Commission website, the various state websites, etc. I really have the impression that India is getting more reclusive and restrictive, which is a pity. --Furfur ⁂ Diskussion 10:06, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
