Numbering
editThere does not appear to be any agreed-upon numbering system for the presidents or prime ministers of Bangladesh, see Talk:List of presidents of Bangladesh#Incorrect numbering. Adding numbers to this list therefore does not adhere to Wikipedia's no original research policy. Myrakibalamin, I see that you are trying to improve the visual layout of the table. Please remove the numbering, or I will need to revert back to the previous stable version of the article. Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 18:26, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Please review
edit@Worldbruce and Vinegarymass911: Please take a look on article history. This is a list. We have Prime Minister of Bangladesh, I think we should add histroy there, not here. I have no intention to edit warring. I will leave it to you. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 22:43, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists#Lead says, "A stand-alone list should begin with a lead section that summarizes its content, provides any necessary background information, gives encyclopedic context, links to other relevant articles, and makes direct statements about the criteria by which members of the list were selected". The previous lead failed to do these things.
- In this edit summary, AMomen88 argues that similar lists "include a brief history of the office". The best list to compare this with is List of prime ministers of the United Kingdom. It's a featured list, has been edited extensively, and is heavily watched. Other lists to compare this with, in decreasing order of helpfulness, are List of prime ministers of India, List of prime ministers of Canada, and List of prime ministers of Pakistan.
- These examples support having some history in the article, but that history should be focused on explaining the inclusion criteria, gaps in the list, deaths in office, longest-serving, and the like. The problem with AMomen88's lead is that it is not a brief history of the office. It is unnecessarily verbose and far too detailed for this article. It should be slashed by at least half, maybe by three-quarters.
- AMomen88 also writes, "It is also worth mentioning I improved the format of the wikitable". My first impression is that the changes to the table are far from an improvement. Images which violate copyright have been added. An order column has been added for which there is no consensus (see the talk page archives of this page and related discussion at Talk:List of presidents of Bangladesh). A text-crammed column of notes has been added which violates the principles of WP:WHENTABLE. And numerous rows have been removed without discussion.
- I recommend that AMomen88's change be reverted to the status quo ante. It can be broken down into smaller pieces, each of which can be discussed on this page until a consensus emerges. This is what the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle is all about. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:15, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Worldbruce and Vinegarymass911: I recognise that the text I added before the table is unnecessarily detailed, and I am more than happy to endeavor to to shorten it (in particular the segment discussing the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis.) But, I do think it is an improvement to the previous text which was incredibly short and had virtually no information about the office, its history or some key details. The previous text was more akin to a short description than an introduction.
- In relation to the table, I have to respectfully disagree with your observation, and I advise you take a closer look at the before and after of the page. It was quite disheartening to me to see how poor the calibre of the page was compared to other comparable pages. Even without the images, my belief is that the table has improved.
- I added an order column, as it is universally agreed that Bangladesh has had 13 prime ministers. I understand that there is some controversy over how many presidents Bangladesh has had, but I do not see why that controversy has to extend to how many prime ministers Bangladesh has had, as I am not aware of any contention in relation to the number of prime ministers Bangladesh has had. You say "numerous rows have been removed", which rows are you referring to? The only row I removed was the one entitled "Political parties" which I replaced with a box which I believe is more neat and tidy compared to the previous bullet-pointed list of political parties. It also has a separate space for BAKSAL which is a rather different entity to the Awami League At the top of the table I inserted a bar displaying how many prime ministers each party has had (which is not a subject of contention). I also added the alliance that each respective prime minister represented which did not exist in the previous table. In the relation to the notes bar I added, I recognise that these notes need to be improved, and I will also endeavor to do this. I disagree with the suggestion that the notes column violates the principles of WP:WHENTABLE as such a notes column exists on comparable page List of prime ministers of Pakistan. A similar section for notes is also included on the page List of prime ministers of Canada, albeit in a different fashion.
- I apologise sincerely for uploading images that violated copyright laws. I kindly request that more experienced Wikipedians like Worldbruce and আফতাবুজ্জামান, who have greater understanding of copyright law than me, assist in uploading images of prime ministers that do not exist, and improving the quality of the images that do exist. If Worldbruce or আফতাবুজ্জামান or anyone else is willing to upload images that do not violate copyright laws, I advise they observe the copyright act and a white paper regarding the government's policy towards open data
- To summarise, it is my view that the page should be restored, but with some very significant amendments most notably a dramatic reduction in the introductory text and reform of the notes section with the inclusion of references. Thank you–AMomen88 (talk) 15:01, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- @AMomen88: Please don't touch the table, your table looks horrible. If you want to add notes in the table, just add a column with current table code. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 19:09, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- @আফতাবুজ্জামান: You ought to watch your tone and you should be more civil. Please can you specify how the table looks "horrible", when there is virtually no difference to the previous table with the exception of making parts of it neater. I also think it is unfair that you have deleted all the text despite the fact that I shortened it substantially.I think it would be better for everyone if you added to wikipedia or attempted to improve the table yourself, as opposed to policing wikipedia. That is a role reserved exclusively for the Administrators.–AMomen88 (talk) 23:10, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Numbering, again
editIn 2020, IamNotU stated "There does not appear to be any agreed-upon numbering system for the ... prime ministers of Bangladesh".
AMomen88 disagreed. In connection with this edit, which added an order column with #1 of 13 being Tajuddin Ahmad, they wrote "it is universally agreed that Bangladesh has had 13 prime ministers".
There is no agreement in reliable sources about who the first prime minister of Bangladesh was. Some accord that status to Tajuddin Ahmad, who was prime minister of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh:
- Mohsin, Amena (2003). "Language, Identity, and the State in Bangladesh". In Brown, Michael E.; Ganguly, Sumit (eds.). Fighting Words. p. 90.
As the first prime minister of Bangladesh, Tajuddin Ahmed declared
- Khondker, Habibul Haque (June 2010). "The Curious Case of Secularism in Bangladesh: What is the Relevance For The Muslim Majority Democracies?". Totalitarian Movements and Political Religions. 11 (2): 191.
Tajuddin Ahmed, the first prime minister of Bangladesh
- Hood, John W. (2015). The Bleeding Lotus. Palimpsest. p. 192. ISBN 9789382622093.
The Father of the Nation had been brutally assassinated, as had been its first prime minister, the good and magnanimous Tajuddin Ahmad
More often, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is said to be the first prime minister of Bangladesh:

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known as Bangabandhu ('Friend of Bengal'), the country's first prime minister
- Alamgir, Jalal (April 2010). "Bangladesh's Quest for Political Justice". Current History. p. 154.
as Sheikh Mujib, he led the country's independence movement in 1971 and became its first prime minister.
In short, there is no well established numbering of Bangladeshi prime ministers in reliable sources. Different numbering systems are and could be applied (as to how various categories of "irregular" officeholders should be counted, and as to the counting of those serving for multiple non-consecutive periods). Please stop adding an order column to the table. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- Worldbruce I now recognise there is contention in relation to the numbering of the prime ministers of Bangladesh. But I do still believe Tajuddin Ahmad was the first person to serve as prime minister, while Sheikh Mujib was the first person to serve as prime minister after the conclusion of the liberation war and I think it would be helpful to people researching Bangladesh's prime ministers to know who was the inaugural holder of the office. Remove Chief Advisors
editIt is a list of the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh only, however, Chief Advisors of Care Taker Governments are also included here. Shouldn't we remove them from the list? GucciNuzayer (talk) 00:34, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- The Chief Adviser was the head of the Caretaker Government therefore i think it should stay Friendlyhistorian (talk) 15:34, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- But it is a totally different position. Like the President was once both Head of State and Government during the time when office of Prime Minister was abolished. We don't add them here though. In my opinion, Chief Advisors are a totally different position. GucciNuzayer (talk) 19:32, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Listen making a separate list for for acting head of government is dumb . Just leave it there i propose to rename the list list of head of government of Bangladesh rather than being as list of prime ministers of Bagladesh that way the issue is solved Friendlyhistorian (talk) 21:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Also thanks for talking about it rather than just deleting stuff you have no idea how much the article has been messed with Friendlyhistorian (talk) 21:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- I guess the best we can do rather than complicating stuff is adding a note/small paragraph to distinguish the Chief Advisors from Prime Minister, to let readers understand that they are indeed different positions, but very similar in terms of power and hence kept in the same list. I guess I will edit it in soon then. GucciNuzayer (talk) 22:58, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
