Anyone who can help with a photograph it would be greatly appreciated. I asked the copyright page, but have no definitive answer. Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#Minnie EvansSusunW (talk) 22:23, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

chairman

edit

According to the introduction sentence, Minnie Evans, though being a woman, was the chairman of the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation. In the infobox, she's a chairperson instead. As English is not my first language, I'm not sure whether the (existing) term "chairoman" should be applied here or if chairman actually is correct. Please check. --YMS (talk) 18:25, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

English is funny that way. Today, "chair" or "chairperson" is considered preferable, but in her time, she may have been designated the "chairman" or "chairwoman." As it is difficult to reconcile WP:RS on the matter, we pretty much just have to pick one and stick with it, and usually the more modern form (just like "Native American" or "Indian" can also be controversial). I changed it to tribal chair, though I doubt that historically it would have been called other than chairman at least in the English speaking world. It may be that the Potawatomi language had a name for the position that was ungendered, but I have no idea. SusunW (talk) 19:39, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks for clarification. --YMS (talk) 19:37, 10 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
