Capt. James Smith?

edit

Is there any reason the explorer commonly (and to me exclusively) known as "John Smith" is called "James Smith" here? I noticed this usage is from the first draft of the article, and it was deliberate because its cross reference to "John Smith" is intentionally designated "James" here. And in the references, the author of Smith's book is has the given name "James" even though when you click on the reference, the book, which purports to be an electronic version of the original publication, is attributed to "John Smith" in te book and by the editors. And when you click on the Wikipedia article linked by "James Smith" you find him called "John Smith" throughout, and nowhere a mention of "James Smith. I only go into this detail because it is so surprising to me that anyone would call the well known John Smith, James Smith, apparently intentionally. I don't see any reason for this and have corrected it. OTOH this is walking the edge of primary source interpretation; we really need a historian talking about Smith's text to be able to claim that he means the modern location when he gives it these "misspelled" versions.
