Merger proposal

I propose to merge Neutralisation (immunology) into Neutralizing antibody. Both articles are on exactly the same subject, namely neutralising antibodies. The neutralisation article contains important information on vaccination and Virus evasion that the neutralising antibody article could benefit from. Both articles are similar in size, but in my opinion the term neutralising antibody is the more used in order to refer to the phenomenon of neutralisation and therefore should be kept as the title of the article. As neutralising antibodies are currently heavily discussed in the media coverage of COVID-19, I think this merge is very important. --Huhny (talk) 12:22, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

My idea for the structure and content of the article is as follows:
  • Copy of sections Virus evasion of neutralizing antibodies, Vaccines, Treatment with neutralizing antibodies from Neutralisation (immunology) directly into this article. Maybe have Vaccines and Treatment as subsections under Medical uses of neutralizing antibodies.
  • Parts of the section Viral infection and antibody response can be merged with the Mechanism section on this page. However, for my taste the text Viral infection and antibody response is a bit too broad as the topic is already covered (or should be covered) by other articles (e.g Humoral immunity, Viral replication)and can be linked. This text should only talk about the specific action of neutralising antibodies.
  • The section Broadly-neutralizing antibodies needs to be revised and rewritten as at the moments it is filled with fragmented information.

I can't really speak to your idea, but I do want to add this. I EVENTUALLY made it to the "Neutralisation (immunology)" article because I was searching out the term "microneutralization" and "microneutralization assay." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention make reference to this term in their testing guidance for the MERS coronavirus. As long as you all are proposing changes, I'd also recommend 1. adding a new redirect from "Microneutralization" to the final _target article and 2. add a blurb to the content about what that actually is. This source says "microneutralization simply means that the neutralization assay is done in a small format, such as a 96 well plate, instead of larger cell culture dishes," but I don't know if that is accurate. (This source leads me to believe readability and resolution would normally be at risk in typical neutralization, but advances in microneutralization have negated that risk?)
