Shooting incidents and controversy

edit

Shootings have happened on the school campus and has had a controversial police incident and such things should be listed in the main article.

Shooting incidents

edit

On May 18, 1983, a student was shot by another student during an argument.[1]

On August 29, 1994, a teacher was shot and killed as he walked to his car after a pickup basketball game at Ray Cagni Park.[2]

On September 29, 1998, at least one gunshot was fired and the bullet ricocheted through a hallway wounding one teacher and at least one student.[3][4][5][6]

Controversy

edit

On Wednesday, June 9, 2015, the Miami-Dade County Public Schools removed[7] Alberto Iber from his position as principal of North Miami High for making a comment online supporting the actions of McKinney, Texas police officer David Eric Casebolt during a 2015 Texas pool party incident. Iber participated in an online, racially charged national debate over police treatment of African-Americans, by defending a white Texas a police officer who was recorded on video restraining an unarmed fifteen-year-old girl on the ground, and who later drew his handgun during the incident. The school district cited a violation of its core values as reason for Iber's reassignment.[8] 2601:206:301:6300:3F73:D6C4:A678:A13B (talk) 02:11, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Discussion

edit

@Shktriib1: added the above to the article and was reverted by @Sundayclose: here without explanation. Shktriib1 then ask me on my talk page to revert it for him. I presume Shktriib1 is trying to avoid getting in an edit war as he was recently warned about that. I will not be reverting Sundayclose as I feel the incidents above lack WP:WEIGHT for the subject. This school is not defined nor known for these incidents, so they should not be in the article. If the incidents were notable enough to have their own article, then they might get a mention here in this article. Shktriib1's response to the revert should have been to start a discussion here, pinging Sundayclose as I have done. See WP:BRD. Sundayclose should have included some explanation for his revert including some reference to policy for Shktriib1 to consider. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 20:10, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

As I removed the section the first time, and was reverted by Shktriib1, my position should be clear. Thank you, Richard-of-Earth, for refusing to be Shktriib1's meatpuppet. I have posted a warning on Shktriib1's talk page about meatpuppetry. - Donald Albury 23:47, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ahh! I did not look far enough back in the history! I was in fact hunting around in WikiProject Schools for guidance on this. The advice is Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article advice#What not to include. This will come in handy for other school articles I have encountered. Shktriib1's argument of "If that were the case Then every wikipedia school article that had a shooting should have it removed but they dont so it should stay here" when he reverted you is addressed in WP:OTHERCONTENT. Shktriib1, please reply here if you have any questions on how these policies and guidelines apply. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 08:46, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, editors who do not understand our guidelines and practices often add things like that. While I have several schools on my watchlist, and try to keep out the more egregious violations from them, I don't look at other school articles that aren't on my watchlist. So much to do, so little time. Again, thank you for paying attention to this. - Donald Albury 16:12, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
