Wing

edit

Sorry, but the pale blue in the wings isn't the speculum, which is green. It is what we Germans call "Armdecken", i.e. the contour feathers covering the part of the wing derived from the arm. --213.6.97.225 09:52, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I've clarified further and added the female's wing. jimfbleak 16:43, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I removed a gallery and several images added recently by Jmgarg1 (talk · contribs).[1] The images are good, but excessive in number, I thought. I moved them into the Commons gallery. Perhaps someone can review them? Some species have galleries, and I don't necessarily object to them. But, I think some balance is needed between the text and the images so the reader is not overwhelmed. Walter Siegmund (talk) 12:45, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Distribution

edit

I'd like to know the basis for the distribution map, having regularly seen this species in downtown Reykjavík at the Tjörnin for the past 30 years I've been there. Current map seems to indicate the species only on the eastern side of Iceland which is plainly wrong. --Stalfur (talk) 02:11, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The European distribution map might be inaccurate. The map caption mentions "dark green" for "all year" but there is no dark green on the map. Birds of the Western Palearctic Concise Edition (1998) shows large areas of "resident breeding" (presumably the same as "all year") in England, Netherlands, Belgium, the northern half of France, north Italy and southern Romania. Also, as this bird is common right round the northern hemisphere, a European distribution map seems a bit too local for this article. Maybe the map should be deleted?--TristramBrelstaff (talk) 11:26, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
