Relationship to Peale Museum?

edit

What was the relationship between the Peale Museum and the Academy? It seems like maybe the Academy evolved out of, or was a host for, the Museum, or vice versa. This should be clarified in the respective articles. I'm asking after a mystery with a particular sculpture, that was a model for several America coins, see Talk:Indian Head cent#Crouching Venus in Philadelphia.--Pharos (talk) 00:43, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pharos the Academy and the Museum seem to have been separate, see here, even if Peale was involved in both. I don't know much about Philadelphia in general, but did some research while writing about the Chestnut Street Opera House. TSventon (talk) 12:19, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have now written Peale's Philadelphia Museum about Charles Willson Peale's museum and corrected several incorrect links to the Academy of the Fine Arts and the Peale Museum in Baltimore. TSventon (talk) 15:55, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reference errors in text: how to verify sources when fixing?

edit
I noticed that some references appear to have the numbers manually entered without any code supporting them. Here is an excerpt from section 1.1, "Women at the Academy" where there are several examples of this problem (highlighted in red):
Sarah Miriam Peale (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1800 – February 4, 1885, Philadelphia) was an American portrait painter, considered the first American woman to succeed as a professional artist.[1] Sarah Miriam Peale was accepted to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1824[6] along with her sister Anna Claypoole Peale,[7] the first women to achieve this distinction. Peale exhibited her first full-size portrait at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1818. Six years later she and her sister Anna Claypoole Peale, a miniaturist, became the first two female members of the Academy, an enormously influential Philadelphia institution.(NMWA.ORG)
I have no way of knowing that [1] indeed refers to the reference currently listed as reference 1, etc. so I am not editing anything. Futhermore the reference to NMWA.org is not clear. Please assist me. Do we need to go back to very early versions to see where these references should point to?

I think an unregistered editor added that material about a year-and-a-half ago with the broken syntax so there doesn't appear to be a "good" version to which we can revert or reference to figure out where the links should go. It's likely that the material was (poorly) copied from Sarah Miriam Peale. If that is the case then you can look there to see what references should have been copied over. But the paragraph also doesn't fit well with the other text in the section in which it was placed in this article e.g., it's not in chronological order like the rest of the section.
For those reasons, I've removed the material. If you want to restore some or all of this material, please figure out where it really belongs and consider rewriting it for this article so it fits. ElKevbo (talk) 03:14, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
