Notable Alumni

edit

Notable alumni sections are for notable alumni. Their purpose is to list notable alumni, and they should include a brief note about the subject. For example, the fact that Javier Pérez de Cuéllar was the Secretary General of the UN is absolutely important; there is no reason to mention him as an alumni outside that fact. I have amended the article to include both the previous information as well as 190.222.124.14's changes. Please do not remove the important biographical information; discuss it here first. In light of the recent spat over images (which was my fault), I've added a gallery section to the bottom, with currently seven nice images from commons. If you want to move one or two to be freestanding in the article, that's fine. For now there's no sense in choosing one to be in the infobox; the Template:Infobox University page says it should be reserved for seals and other official images (which may or may not be available here under free use, and that's a whole other discussion). Hopefully that'll please everyone; more likely it'll please no one. Cheers! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:11, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name change

edit

There is a Vatican decree (dated July 11, 2012) that withdrew the titles of "Pontificia" and "Catolica". However, any name change will require a process. Wikipedia is not a crystabl ball and, therefore, can not advance what the name of the university will be before it is made official. Andreasm just talk to me 22:17, 22 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

What about removing the "type" of "Roman Catholic" university from its infobox? It no longer has the right to be a Roman Catholic university as of the promulgation of the decree. Elizium23 (talk) 22:21, 22 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
That sounds about right. Anyway, there is a University Assembly session scheduled for tomorrow Monday July 23. It is also possible that tomorrow, the first working day since the publication of the decree, there is a official statement from the Peruvian education authorities. The rector of the University issued a defiant statement to the local press, so I believe this controversy will continue for a long time. Elizium23 (talk) 00:56, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately (given the results), that's been his position so far. From now on, the process for a name change involves other institutions besides the University. I hope the decision does not last too long, given the practical difficulties that would create a delay; for example, the university may be prevented from issuing professional titles under its current name.
