Power Metal Classification
editUntitled
editWhomever believes that this is the foundations for power metal (which is stated in the current article) is wholly mistaken. Bands like Manowar and Helloween were putting out the "Foundations" power metal albums almost a decade before this. To my knowledge (and personal tastes) "Riding On The Wind" by Judas Priest is one of the first power metal songs (put out by a non-power metal band). Can someone with a little more history then me fix this error? —Preceding unsigned comment added by KoRnOnThEeKoB (talk • contribs) 03:37, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
The Dead Green Mummies
editI carried out the proposed merger with The Dead Green Mummies, which was a very short stub. Considering its topic is a one-off pseudonym for Pantera, I don't imagine it could have developed into a stand-alone article. Other than the IMDB reference, it contained no information not already in this article. Lusanaherandraton (talk) 04:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Glam metal
editI realise this genre has been included without dispute for a while, but where are the sources for it? Allmusic does indeed state heavy metal, but no sign of glam. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 09:21, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Hard rock?
editI think that hard rock should be removed from the infobox of the album. I mean, it makes the record look way too cheesy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teh Thrasher (talk • contribs) 16:02, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
- But the album is hard rock? Sourced material doesn't care about how it makes something look, or what anyone thinks—it is what it is. ;-) Mac Dreamstate (talk) 16:20, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
Glam/Hair metal
editAllmusic doesn't state Glam or Hair metal as an official genre for the album, but yet someone keeps adding glam metal as a genre and reverting my edits when i remove it, because Allmusic states that it was "dismissed as fluffy hair metal by most". Yeah, while it's true that most people dismissed it as a glam album, i suppose they THOUGHT that it was glam metal just because of the album cover, and that they DIDN'T actually listen to it. Then again, Glam or Hair metal ISN'T in the genre listing. So, why adding it? Teh Thrasher (talk) 12:49, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- Until an RS can be found that outright supports the claim that Power Metal (and not Pantera in general back then) is glam metal, it should stay off the genre list. AllMusic doesn't even list the previous albums as glam metal, but I don't give too much of a shit about how those are listed. User:Lukejordan02, have you not learned anything by now when it comes to edit warring? It's like you're repeating the mistakes you made on the Youthanasia article. Just because you've got an itchy revert finger and loads of time on your hands, doesn't mean your revision will stay. Learn to have some patience—there is no time limit on WP, and it's not a race, so just let things talk themselves out before you go making an idiot of yourself again. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 13:24, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- You're right, man. The guy definetely needs to learn not to judge a book by its cover. Teh Thrasher (talk) 14:16, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's not that. Rather, it's his habit of resorting to WP:SYNTH that keeps resulting in these genre wars. In this case, just like with Youthanasia some weeks ago, he has taken a quote ("dismissed as fluffy hair metal by most") and twisted it to apply to the whole album, when the review in question clearly does not state "genre: glam metal". Mac Dreamstate (talk) 14:25, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- Generalizing an article just because of a damn quote? Well, i've never seen that before. Teh Thrasher (talk) 14:40, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- Happens all the time. I'm very much guilty of it myself years ago in my early days of editing, where my mindset was stubbornly along the lines of "this genre is correct, because these two sources combined say so!" Eventually I had to learn that WP:SYNTH just doesn't fly. If an WP:RS cannot be found, even though you "know" a genre should be included, then tough shit. - Well, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. But we learn from our mistakes, and that's what counts. Teh Thrasher (talk) 15:26, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
