I was just going to make a request for this article, so thanks for writing it, I didn't know enough and couldn't find enough to create one. This term came up fairly prominently in Bandit Queen where the "bad guys" were higher caste Thakurs. We should also mention it is commonly taken as an appelation. Search Wikipedia for Thakur and you'll see several instances come up. Also Tagore is the Bengali equivalent/spelling as given in Platts.[1] That also gives the spelling as ठाकुर which transliterates as ṭhākur or Thākur instead of Thakore, so perhaps wee should move it to that. Platts is public domain so we can use anything from that. That's the only source I could find though. I could never get the spelling right before to find it. - Taxman Talk 18:29, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

ThakoreThakur — Most appropriate and commonly used term. Just did a google search and found 2.29 million hits against 0.1 million for Thakore. Even in the article itself, the term is spelled "Thakur". Thakore is very rarely used and I haven't find any one addressed as such so far. —Axxn (talk) 01:59, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kolis as Thakur

edit

Hi Мастер Шторм, it is regarding this edit. The citation added by the IP here has a list of people bearing the title "Thakur" and surname "Koli", however at the same time they are declared belonging to various Rajput castes. DO Rajputs have 'Koli' as a surname or are these people are actually Kolis that claim Rajput status as explained here. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:45, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Fylindfotberserk. I just looked at the book details (publisher, year, etc.) at Thakur (title)#References and I believe that I won't spend a moment looking inside the book for WP:V. Is the citation provided acceptable as a source? No, it isn't! British era caste compendiums are not reliable sources, as discussed several times at WP:RSN. An article or book published after 1947 by a reputed academic scholarly publication is something solid, but this source was published before 1947, therefore it is not acceptable as a reference on Wikipedia. There really is no need to take it up for a discussion. Regarding the question you are asking about these 2 communities, I would say that I have not studied about the Koli people so I cannot give you an answer. You must already understand that there has to be a sense of responsibility while writing any views about communities even on the talk pages, and if I cannot back up any point I may make with a WP:RS citation then I better not make a point. Primum non nocere. Sorry, Мастер Шторм (talk) 15:31, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Мастер Шторм Looks like I went straight to the link I saw in the diff instead of even checking on the publication year lol  . Silly things happen when you do not sleep properly for a week. Thanks for pointing that BTW. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:45, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@2409:4043:2395:21B3:9C05:AEFF:FE36:CE50, Please do not add unsourced content like you did here. The Thakur (title)#Usage clearly mentions with source which communities use the term Thakur as a title. Expand in that section with WP:HISTRS compliant post 1947 source(s) first. No British era sources however, since they have been deprecated by Wikpedia. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:02, 28 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

You can talk to any Thakur in India, Nepal, & Pakistan. They only allow within Rajput caste marriage (As they are against intercaste), You can randomly pick biography of any thakur, You will find all of them as Rajput caste, because Thakur is another name given to Rajputs (decendents of ancient kings administraing the village or region). You can also search Rajput matrimony/jeevansathi/shaadi.com,etc (marriage apps in India), Thakurs would be only found in Rajput category.

Which easily proves the fact. Apart from that you can check and search any song related to term "Thakur" on youtube. You will find the comment of People saying Jai Rajputana (victory to divine Rajputi values and morals). If you still don't believe me, Then apology. We shall raise the request to the right place.

Request you to research with your own wisdom before erasing anyone's comment.

Regards, Thakur Jaiveeraj Singh Gohil, Prince of Bhavnagar Gujarat, India. 150.242.175.245 (talk) 18:03, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
