Tanner Emmanuel Buchanan (born December 8, 1998) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles as Leo Kirkman in the ABC political drama Designated Survivor and Robby Keene in the Netflix series Cobra Kai. He is also known for his role in the Nickelodeon television series Game Shakers as Mason Kendall.

Early life
editBuchanan was born in Lima, Ohio, on December 8, 1998.[1] His parents are Steve and Marlona Buchanan. Buchanan's maternal grandfather was Filipino. He was raised in a Christian household and he attended Glandorf Elementary School in Ohio. He moved to Los Angeles with his family in 2007 to pursue his acting career.[2][3]
Career
editBuchanan began his acting career in 2010, making his first appearance on television, playing a child role in the Modern Family series. He has appeared in the TV shows Grey's Anatomy, Major Crimes, Ghost Ghirls, The Goldbergs, Growing Up Fisher, Mixology, Fuller House and Deputy.[4]
In 2011, Buchanan was cast in the comedy television film Untitled Jeff and Jackie Filgo Project alongside Tricia O'Kelley, Mimi Kennedy, Becki Newton, Shane McRae and Ivan Hernandez, in which he played the lead role of Jimmy.[5] In 2012, Buchanan appeared as Cynical Kid in the TV film The Real St. Nick.[6][7]
In 2013, Buchanan made his film debut in the comedy drama film Jake Squared, in which he played the role of Sammy.[8][9] In 2015, he had a recurring role in Disney Channel's Girl Meets World portraying Charlie Gardner and also played Mason Kendall in Nickelodeon's Game Shakers.[10]
In 2016, Buchanan played his first main role on television, playing Leo Kirkman in the political drama series Designated Survivor.[11][12] On the same year, he has portrayed recurring character Jack Downey in the family drama series The Fosters.[13][14]
In 2017, Buchanan appeared in romantic drama film Anything portraying Jack Sachman. In 2018, he began playing Johnny Lawrence's estranged son Robby Keene in the YouTube Premium (and later Netflix) series Cobra Kai.[15][16]
In 2019, Buchanan took on a supporting role in the sci-fi thriller film Max Winslow and the House of Secrets, he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor at the 2019 Canadian International Faith & Family Film Festival.[17][18] On the same year, he starred as Dylan in Damián Romay's thriller television film Sinister Seduction opposite Kristina Klebe, Sebastian Cabanas and Carson Rowland.[19][20]
In early 2020, Buchanan portrayed Colton in the drama film Chance directed by John B. Crye, which was released on May 22, 2020 at the Starlite Drive In in Amelia, Ohio.[21][22]
In 2021, Buchanan starred in the remake of She's All That called He's All That with Addison Rae,[23][24] he played the lead role of Cameron Kweller.[25]
In 2022, Buchanan appeared in the action comedy film The Hyperions as Apollo.[26][27]
In 2024, Buchanan starred alongside Sebastian Croft and Charithra Chandran in the British teen romantic comedy film How to Date Billy Walsh directed by Alex Sanjiv Pillai, which was released on Amazon Prime Video on April 5, 2024.[28][29]
