Template talk:Infobox military memorial

Microformat

edit

I have added the hCard microformat to this template, with class="vcard" on a wrapping div. It would be better to add that class to to the table element. I can't see how to do that, without adding it to all the other templates which use the shared header template. Any ideas? Andy Mabbett 11:51, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fixed it; there's code in the shared template to allow secondary classes to be set on the main box. Kirill 15:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Please feel free to mention the use of hCard and geo microformats in your newsletter; and do let me know if I can assist in adding them to other templates in this project. Andy Mabbett 21:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Needed parameters

edit

This badly needs to include the options of adding heritage register designations, like {{Infobox Historic Site}} has done. --Kevlar (talkcontribs) 05:49, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Nearest town"

edit

This parameter does not allow an option when memorials are located within, rather than near to, a town or city. For example, use of the template at The Cenotaph, Whitehall, gives the absurd resulting text that London is the "nearest town", when the memorial is located right in the heart of the city. Can this be rectified? Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:41, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

In principle, certainly. Is there a specific alternative wording you'd prefer to see? Kirill [talk] [prof] 09:21, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that there should be an option for Location, where the location can be specifically named (such as "London") - as an alternative to the "Nearest town" option, which is fine when the memorial is in a rural location. I have no expertise in infobox templates, so I'll leave it to others as to how that is best accomplished. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:46, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've added an extra parameter {{{location}}} which can be used as an alternative to {{{nearest_town}}} and which omits the word "near". It's possible to use both to get an "X near Y" output. -- Dr Greg  talk  19:41, 24 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

breakdown by nation etc - only for burials not for commemorated?

edit

Someone is asking about this over at Talk:Menin_Gate as Menin Gate is entirely commemorative but the breakdown by nation etc is described as "Burials" in the infobox. Kerry (talk) 21:56, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Kerry Raymond: Would it be helpful if we change the template so that those headings can be changed if desired? Kirill [talk] 15:41, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
That would work for Menin Gate which is purely commemorative. I am not sure if it works for any place that is a mix of burials and commemorative if someone wanted to do a national breakdown of both, but I have no idea if that is a problem in practice for any actual article, so maybe the best solution is just to fix the immediate problem. Inscription

edit

Hi, shouldn't the word "Inscription" appear in the Infobox adjacent to the value supplied to this field? For example, at Freedom Monument, the relevant part reads:

Designed by   Kārlis Zāle

TĒVZEMEI
UN
BRĪVĪBAI

It is not obvious at first what "TĒVZEMEI UN BRĪVĪBAI" relates to.

Also, is there a preferred way to add an English translation? I tried simply adding it under the original, but I thought it could look as if the English was actually a part of the inscription. What is the best way to do this? 86.160.82.218 (talk) 04:38, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

More parameters

edit

As many of the military memorials are structures, it would be useful to have parameters for major renovation works. Schwede66 18:09, 22 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

And a parameter for ownership of the memorial. Schwede66 11:59, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Inscription, removed italics.

edit

I have removed the italics font style from the inscription section. Quotes shouldn't normally be italicized per MOS, and this also allows foreign inscriptions to be in italics and the side-by-side English translation without. (Hohum @) 18:16, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Country has been removed from Infobox template

edit

Country is a mandatory field and it has been removed from the documentation. Would someone restore, as its beyond my technical capabilities? With thanks. Rangasyd (talk) 10:10, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Removal date

edit

We have a field in this infobox for the date when military memorials were established, but not a date for them being removed. With the increasing number of removals of monuments to the Confederacy in the U.S. (see, for example Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument (Birmingham, Alabama)), we now need a field for this. Can anyone help with this? -- The Anome (talk) 12:31, 4 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Map

edit

Any chance of getting some way to put maps in this template? Liverpoolpics (talk) 09:04, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Seconding a request for adding maps. There are several war memorials with Map requests and it would be nice to add maps to this infobox simliar to the "monument" template. NatFee (talk) 15:13, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
You can embed map-frame like in this example > Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar. ౪ Santa ౪99° 19:21, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Heritage

edit

The lack of heritage parameter is huge problem for this template ! If somebody knows how to include script for that one it would be truly appreciated. ౪ Santa ౪99° 19:23, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Useful parameters: |material |length |width |height

edit

@Hohum: @Santasa99: @Schwede66:

Often used in descriptions of monumental military memorials e.g. (scroll to subheads 'Description' & 'Components). Part of Template:Infobox_monument.

What do we think?

Protalina (talk) 10:30, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not quite sure what do you mean exactly - we do have all of the above (useful) paras already included, if that's what you mean ?--౪ Santa ౪99° 11:25, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, this is general infobox that you linked as an example, I guess? Yeah, it would be useful to include those same here. ౪ Santa ౪99° 11:28, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK [sorry for not being clearer ;-) ]. —Protalina (talk) 11:43, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
