Development

edit

On January 7, 2023, GMA Network announced its series lineup for 2023, which included The Voice Generations, a spin-off of The Voice franchise that first aired in Australia a year prior.[1] The series is the third spin-off of The Voice of the Philippines.[2] Johnny Manahan, who directed the other versions of the series within the Philippines, returned to direct the Generations spin-off.[3] The series was produced by ITV Studios.[4]

On a media conference for the series, GMA Network announced that the series would premiere on August 27, 2023.[5][6]

Online auditions for the series on April 20, 2023, to group acts which consist of two or more natural-born Filipinos aged seven years old and older, with at least two members that have at least a ten-year age gap from one another.[7][8] It was also required that the members of the acts have an "authentic relationship" with one another.[9] Acts with existing contracts with recording companies or talent managers were prohibited from auditioning.[10]

Auditionees were assisted in their online audition process in dedicated booths at several Sparkle Caravan events.[11] The auditions concluded with an in-person casting call held on June 15, 2023, at GMA Network Studios.[12]

Dingdong Dantes served as the host.

Dingdong Dantes was announced as the series's host in a broadcast of All-Out Sundays on April 2, 2023.[14] For the YouTube and Facebook livestreams, Crystal Paras and Timmy Albert hosted the pilot episode; Matt Lozano and Shuvee Etrata for episodes 2-5; and Betong Sumaya and Jennie Gabriel for episodes 6-16.

Coaches

edit

The show's panel of coaches was later announced on June 9, 2023, via the network's flagship news program, 24 Oras.[7] The coaching panel consists of Billy Crawford, an actor and recording artist; Chito Miranda, the frontman of Parokya ni Edgar, who previously served as a judge on the second season of Idol Philippines a year prior; Julie Anne San Jose, a singer-songwriter who is regarded as one of the best-selling recording artists in the Philippines; and Stell, a member of the Filipino boy band SB19.[15][16]

Selection process and format

edit

Blind auditions

edit

The season begins with the blind auditions, the first televised stage in the show. In the stage, the four coaches are seated in chairs that face the audience and away from the artists. The coaches judge the artists solely on their "vocal ability", and if they are interested in working with the artist, the coaches would press their button to face the artist. If multiple coaches turn, the artist would elect a coach's team to join. If only one coach turns, the artists are defaulted to that coach's team.[17] At the end of the round, each coach will end up with a team that will advance to the next round.

Competitions

edit

Following the blind auditions, the artists will compete in the sing-offs, the battles, semi-finals and the live finale.[18]

Blind auditions

edit

The show began with the blind auditions on August 27, 2023.[5] In each audition, the artists sing their piece in front of the coaches, whose chairs are facing the audience. If a coach is interested in working with the artists, they may press their button to face the act. If a sole coach presses his/her respective button, the artists automatically become part of his/her team. If multiple coaches turn, the act will decide which team they will join.[17] Each coach is tasked to form a team of five acts; Chito leads Parokya ni Chito; Billy leads Team Bilib; Julie leads JuleSquad; and Stell leads StellBound. At the end of the round, a total of 20 acts advance to the next round. Out of 20 acts, 4 of them are four-chair turners.
