Ipigott is short for Ian Pigott. Born in Newcastle in the north east of England in 1943, I am now retired and share my time mainly between Denmark and Luxembourg where I have lived since 1973. Before that, I was in Montreal, Canada.
My principal interests are IT and culture in the widest sense as well as multilingualism, machine translation, history, new energy resources, public speaking, walking, cycling and exploring the quieter areas of Europe, in particular - but not exclusively - in Denmark, France and Luxembourg. I also try to encourage ordinary citizens to participate in building up knowledge resources on the web. Wikipedia is a great catalyst in this connection. I am fluent in Danish, French, German and Spanish and have a good reading knowledge of the other Scandinavian, Germanic and Romance languages but prefer to spend most of my editing time on the English Wikipedia in view of its extensive readership.
I always appreciate reactions and additional contributions to the articles I have started. If you wish to contact me by email on items you would not like to discuss on Wikipedia or on other Wikimedia pages, you are welcome to write to my Wikipedia user name at yahoo dot com.

For creating Lisa Kalvelage! I had a draft of it sitting in one of my sandboxes for the longest time (way back in 2019!) but it sat in there so long I forgot about it. So I was quite pleased to see you'd had the same thought and gone ahead and created it. You're doing Pete Seeger proud! Keep up the good work! Today we asked our WikiScholars participants what surprised them the most about learning how to edit Wikipedia over the past few months. Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week - 17 September 2016 for your vast, multilingual promoted content additions. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:SusunW submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I nominate Ipigott to be Editor of the Week for his tireless efforts to improve WP. Ian speaks multiple languages (English Danish, French, German, Spanish, as well as having a working knowledge of Dutch, other Scandinavian and romance languages) and is an amazing resource for other editors in helping with translations and sourcing. He has been extremely active in creating articles focused on Scandinavia, Luxembourg, music, art, architecture, literature and women. Truly a Renaissance man, his expertise in many areas is staggering and his contributions to GA have included over 20 entries, not the least of which were creation of Malouma, the improvement of Jean Sibelius for his 150th anniversary and improvement of Carl Nielsen which he later promoted to FA. Besides creating over 6,000 pages and bringing over 200 articles to DYK, he is a tireless behind the scenes editor, sending invitations and thank yous for editathons, helping source newly created articles, creating lists to eliminate orphaned articles, adding categories, and in general encouraging and supporting other editors. Ipigott is reliable, authentic, bright, and articulate. If he says he's going to do something, he does it. A polyglot, his translation assistance is invaluable. A champion of the Women in Red project.
