Blocking of wiener-gasometer.at
editHello! I have noticed, that you have blocked the wiener-gasometer.at URL because I have added this link to some Wikipedia articles with a photograph of wikipedia-commons that concern to the topic Gasometer and Gasometer, Vienna. It was not my intention to produce spam - I only wanted to supplement the articles about the architects of the Gasometer in the other wikipedia-languages by the link to the english text on wiener-gasometer.at. Is it possible that you remove the link from the blacklist because this site contains non-commercial content and scientific papers on the topic of Gasometers that has been used for example in the German and English Wikipedia. If the link is undesired in other wikipedia-articles than in the German and English Wikipedia I won't add it in the future any more. Thank you! Greetings from Vienna Andreas.poeschek 16:16, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- I did not add the link, I only requested it. I would make a note that it was added to multiple wikis. If that was you doing it, just wait on the request for un-blacklisting. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 17:39, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hello! How long does it take to get off the blacklist? I would like to edit some pages in the german wikipedia concerning the Gasometer-Topic. The Link to wiener-gasometer.at was in these articles a long time before and it would be bad to remove them from these articles because they supply a lot of information about the topic. I have already postet on Proposed Removals at the Blacklist here some days before. Thank you! Andreas.poeschek 22:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I would suggest requesting to have it whitelisted on the respective wikis that the link would be helpful on. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 23:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- There are the Luxemburgish, English, German, French,... Wikipedias, who has articles about the Gasometer or about the Architects of the Gasometer. These wikipedias used the link as source long time before I added the link some days ago. So should I send a request for whitelisting to these bunch of wikipedias? If yes, where should I post this request? Is it not simplier to remove the link from the blacklist? Greetings Andreas.poeschek 00:02, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- You uploaded the images to commons right? If so the only wiki you need the link on is commons, the link does not need to be with every image in the sub-caption. That information can be found in the image license. If you plan on using the link as a source, I would simply make a request at the whitelist of the respective wikis. You could also look around for other sources as well :D Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 00:23, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

- I suggest getting it whitelisted as soon as possible, because today when I was trying to edit the Jean Nouvel article, I was literally forced to delete an existing useful link to this domain, because otherwise my edit (which had nothing to do with that link) got blocked and I wasn't allowed to save my contribution. This was both a frustrating and a very annoying experience, and it will keep happening to anyone who innocently tries to edit any of the other articles which already contain non-spam links to this domain, and such an undeserved annoyance is not going to do any good to Wikipedia IMHO. - I will mention here some Examples that were used in the english and in other wikipedias in articles as reference: Architect Coop Himmelb(l)au: www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/gasometer/b/ , Architect Jean Nouvel: www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/gasometer/a/ , Architect Wilhelm Holzbauer (at this time is an article only in German Wikipedia, but perhaps it will be here in the english or in any other language soon) www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/gasometer/d/ , Architect Manfred Wehdorn www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/gasometer/c/ , History of developement of gas lightning, gasworks, gasholders www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/technik/ , www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/geschichte/ - there are a lot of diagrams and technical drawings that were linked - i must go through all wikipedias to mention them here... (in the german, english, luxemburg, netherland, france, spain,... wikipedia) for example www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/technik/plaene/ or www.wiener-gasometer.at/de/technik/funktion-gasometer.html (function of gasometers) Andreas.poeschek 02:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

- I wasn't trying to add any URL to en.wikipedia, I was just trying to add text to the Jean Nouvel article (an entry to his list of works, particularly). But the version of the section I was editing happened to contain a link to the domain "wiener-gasometer.at" (a link which was meant to illustrate another building in the list), so when I tried to save my edit I was blown in the face by this spam filter blocking my edit, because it did not distinguish between the existing content (the one that contained the blacklisted link, which was there before the blacklisting) and the content I was adding (which had nothing whatsoever to do with that URL, nor with any URL for that matter because it was plain text). So, in order to be able to save my innocent contribution, I was forced to find and delete the preexisting link that was causing the problem. Why this spam filter doesn't take the basic precaution of deleting all existing links in articles to a certain domain before it puts that domain in its blacklist, is beyond me, because by failing to do so it will make anyone who tries to edit one of the articles containing a link to that domain, go through the same frustrating and annoying experience of finding their edit blocked on charges of supposed "spamming", when their edit is not in fact the cause of the block (but a newbie or casual editor probably won't realize of that and will simply think Wikipedia sucks for undeservedly calling them a spammer). Uaxuctum 14:04, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- I believe that has been taken off of the blacklist :D —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Spam policy question
editHi, Eagle 101. It seems the user GreysAnatomy is going around to all the law firm pages adding links to a site called averyindex.com. GreysAnatomy might be connected with another user Dirkjavery, who assumably is connected with averyindex.com and whose edits stop about the time that GreysAnatomy's edits begin. I'm relatively new to wikipedia so don't know the spam policy very well but it looked like you warned GreysAnatomy on November 30 about his behavior so you might know best what to do. Thanks! Pictures Link in Westdale, Ontario Article
editYou removed the following text from the Westdale, Ontario page, citing the "[[WP::EL|external link guidelines]]": Pictures of Westdale on flickr.com. It's not clear to me which guideline you feel is being violated. Would you mind citing? It put the link there because the Westdale page has no images, and flickr.com has a growing collection of images of the village. Do you feel that the images are not sufficiently representative of Westdale, Ontario? Kenneth Moyle
- If you feel the article needs images, I would upload them to Wikimedia Commons and link them from there. JoeSmack Talk 02:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
my site is blocked
edithello, on the "electric light orchestra" wikipedia page, my site -elodiscovery.com- link is blocked because it's a website "under construction" (???). Why??? It's not under construction. My site is finished since october 2006 and it's one of the most popular about this band (about 500 visitors every week). I don't understand. Thank you for your help. Regards
Nicolas nicolasguibert2006@yahoo.fr 5 February 2007 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jefflynnefan (talk • contribs) 13:03, 5 February 2007 (UTC).
- It was spammed across multiple wikis. See [1]. In addition it is a conflict of interest for you to be adding links to a site that you are related to and or own. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 17:06, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer. Most of the sites in the "Electric Light Orchestra" wikipedia page have been added by their own webmasters. Why don't you spam them too? One of the reasons my site was spammed is because it was regarded as "under construction" but it was not. So, I am not agree with you. May you reconsider your decision, please? I repeat: it's one of the most popular website about this band with a lot of informations and a news page updated every week. So, it's not a spam. Thanks. Regards Nicolas--Jefflynnefan 18:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- No, what Eagle 101 means is that it was added repeatedly to multiple wikis. And you have not provided any proof of its popularity. Veinor (talk to me) 18:12, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
This site was added repeatedly to multiple wikis related to "Electric Light Orchestra" because the website is about this band. It's logical. There is a counter on the main page to prove its popularity.
Nicolas--Jefflynnefan 18:24, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank You you have pointed out other spammers we will remove that spam too thank you for your help and have a spamming free day. Cheers Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 18:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think a counter is reliable; for all we know, you started it at 5500 or something. And I don't think 6k hits is a lot in any case. And you should only add a link to a same-language site (unless there are special reasons, such as being an official site). Veinor (talk to me) 18:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Why do you think I am a liar? I am honest. My site is in English. Check by yourself. My website is open since few months. So, yes, 6000 visitors is a lot for an ELO website.--Jefflynnefan 18:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I never said you were a liar, I said we can't prove the counter. And I was talking about the other wikis. (bg.wikipedia.org and sk.wikipedia.org) Veinor (talk to me) 18:36, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'd also note that popularity is not what determines if a link stays or goes. Please read Wikipedia:External links for more. JoeSmack Talk 18:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- We work of Alexa at Wikipedia. If you can show overwhelming popularity through Alexa, we may be able to reconsider. -- Heligoland 18:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please read please see WP:SPAM WP:N WP:COI WP:NOT WP:NOR and WP:V. and if your site passes all of those them we will be happy to put it on the wiki BUT per WP:COI it will never accepted. Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 18:48, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
"...I'd also note that popularity is not what determines if a link stays or goes..."
"...If you can show overwhelming popularity through Alexa, we may be able to reconsider..."
You don't say the same thing...
My site was spammed for 2 reasons:
-multiple additions in Wikipedia: yes, I added the site on different countries.
-site "under construction": no, the site is finished since october 2006.
So why do you try to find other reasons now (I add my own site, not popular...) ?
Nicolas--Jefflynnefan 18:57, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, once and for all your site is not suitable for Wikipedia. Your site isn't popular, it's not listed on Alexa, it's not legal, there's copyright violating videos everywhere, it's not established, being only a few weeks old, and you appear to be the only person who has added a link to this site, so it was indeed spamming. If you would care to compare your site with something like http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/ (which surprisingly isn't linked from the Pink Floyd article) you'll see why your site is wholly unsuitable. -- Heligoland 19:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Heligo, anyway, here there is the complete infor about your website: [2] so don't say that your website is notable. Happy Editing by Snowolf(talk) on 19:21, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
How can you compare a Pink Floyd site with an ELO site??? Pink Floyd is more popular than ELO. You don't answer to my question. Why do you try to find other reasons to spam me? It didn't spam for this reason. --Jefflynnefan 19:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
If you make a search with FaceTheMusic.com (ELO official site) on urltrends. This site is not suitable too (lol).--Jefflynnefan 20:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
How can I contest this decision? I need a mediator.--Jefflynnefan 20:34, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- No need to contest, read WP:EL. And that other links are there is not a reason to add more. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:34, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Your site was spammed across multiple wikis, see here. ie, someone spammed your site. Realize it is a conflict of interest for you to be adding your own site to wikipedia. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
So, why don't you spam ALL the fansites on Wikipedia for ALL the artists? Most of them have been added by the webmasters...--Jefflynnefan 20:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Jefflynnefan, you can request a second opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam however I can tell you that:
- You'll get similar responses
- They'll be unanimously negative
- The comments, however, will not be as patient and polite as what you've gotten from Eagle 101 and others here.
- --A. B. (talk) 20:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Jefflynnefan, I don't know if you are missing something or not... I have not spammed anything, someone has spammed that site, I merely reverted those edits. Does that make anysense? Or am I not making sense to you? If I am not you have my apologies. —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:59, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

- Oh I did that to remove any other fansites, We are not a linkfarm. And no I'm not a fan :P Cheers! As far as your site, it was spammed into multiple wikipedias. —— Eagle101 Need help? 21:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
You're great! You don't know something about this band but you can say if a website link is pertinent or not. Did you erased other fansites for other artists on wikipedia?(lol)--Jefflynnefan 21:47, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- By your own logic, you can't judge the link's suitability either, as you don't know nearly as much about Wikipedia as Eagle and I do. Also, you have a severe conflict of interest in the site (being the owner), which would further impair your judgment. Finally, I would have to guess that Eagle has removed many, many fansites, as have I. Veinor (talk to me) 21:49, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I am very disappointed by Wikipedia. I though it was made by internet surfers... Not really. Very sad.--Jefflynnefan 21:56, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Internet surfers don't spam in a single site. Thats the work of a dedicated person wishing to gain page hits, and was dealt with accordingly. If your site has any merit you may request whitelisting of your link on this wiki by requesting at WP:WHITELIST. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 22:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I suggest you add your site to dmoz. That is a list of website, and probably it's there that your website should be added. BTW, as I am a webmaster too, it seems that dmoz boost your pagerank ;-) Cheers! Happy Editing by Snowolf(talk) on 22:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

If user history is important to you on this one. Check out the history for the guy who nominated it for deletion. Of his 100 edits, the vast majority are votes to delete articles. At best I would describe him as a deletion troll and not someone who is significantly contributing to Wikipedia. --Clausewitz01 00:46, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Still not a valid reason for keep I'm afraid. That article needs some references as to why it is notable. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 00:47, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- It does go to the credibility of his vote. Check my history for veriety and contribution. And I am working on the NX Files page itself in a constructive fashion. Check the sources I have recently added. Links from around the world and in 3 languages talking about it, as well as national newspaper coverage here in Canada.
This is the first ever Martial Arts Webisode series on the net. Others have tried single episodes of martial arts, but never a whole series with multiple seasons like this one.
Keep watching I will add more support to this page.
And just maybe the bunch of the fans that are coming out will get involved as editors in the longer term, everyone needs a reason to start on Wikipedia, maybe this is the reason for these people. There are a lot of very experienced martial artists that are fans of this show, I am sure they could be constructive editors within the subjects of their speciality. --Clausewitz01 01:22, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
There you go, and it wasnt even me that found it. CTV National News covered this on regular TV, and detaile why it is a significant show. Now there has been provided print media examples, as well as Telivision examples. --Clausewitz01 02:38, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- mmm well I will look in the morning :D. But you might want to reference the article properly, using WP:CITE templates if possible. If you need help with that feel free to ask me. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 02:41, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I have taken a first crack at adding sources per the citation guide, with links to the articles on the news webpages as well as a link to where the CTV cast is hosted on Youtube if people would rather watch the cast then read it. Any feedback would be apreciated, I'd like to make sure I am sourcing this properly before I get lost in the shuffle. I am focusing my energy on the main page, if I get that right I can then work on any character pages that are deemed sufficiently notable to keep. --Clausewitz01 23:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Speedy G4
editYou recently deleted Jean Frye Sidwell under CSD G4 (recreations). I figure that must have been a typo, because the article clearly fit under CSD A7 (but it doesn't fit under G4). I just wanted to make sure you knew that G4 doesn't apply to articles deleted via PROD. In fact, if a PROD'ed article is recreated it should be viewed as a user disputing the proposed deletion and not deleted. Mangojuicetalk 04:33, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Eagle
Why did you eliminate "Sangreal Sodality" Certainly this is a significant magical order with a well known leader and many books. William Gray is no insignificant figure and Sangreal Sodality has and continues to be a real player internationally I cannot help see this as a very sectarian move
- I will look into this, but please do realize I don't appreciate your alluding that I'm part of some "sectarian" group or whatever that is. :P Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:29, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I have taken a second look. The article does not demonstrate why that group is important. I don't see any evidence of sourcing or anything. Keep in mind that we are an encyclopedia. If you would like to contest my deletion I would suggest that you take the matter up on our deletion review. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:33, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Government run company
editI am in the process of beginning to add encyclopedic articles on publicly owned Crown Corporations in the province of British Columbia, Canada, and noticed that one of these (Forestry Innovation Investment Ltd.) was hastily deleted a short time ago by this user citing, Csd g.11. None of my additions are advertising, nor I believe can be reasonably construed to be advertising, being publicly owned and run. I simply paraphrase the mandate of the government organization, and am hoping that someone will supplement it in the future. I am re-creating the entry. Thanks--Keefer4 00:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Why did you delete Grand Lisboa? Why do you consider the page about a US$300 million brand new casino/hotel opening in Macau this Sunday (11 February 2007) unimportant? Deletion of NCIS-episode articles
editHi. You have deleted several pages without looking at them for copyright violation, although they were clearly not, as I wrote them myself. For example Escaped (NCIS) had a extensive plot I wrote myself (as had some of the other episodes of season 4), yet you deleted them based on WP:CSD#g12. I ask you to restore at least those articles which were clearly no copyright-violations because there is no reason for me to continue to write further articles if people just delete them afterwards on false claims. --SoWhy Talk 08:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have undeleted that one, sorry about that, but I was given a list of over 80 such articles, all were edited and or created by one user. If there are others that I deleted that should not be deleted, let me know. ;) —— Eagle101 Need help? 16:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that is the problem, the user took a glance at some, tried to annoy us a bit and then filed the request to delete them all. I would've appreciated if you had not done so so fast but rather opened discussion about it. Unfortunately now that you did so, I cannot find out, which ones I created, those where all self written. If you could have a look at those deleted of season 4 (all those aired after "Escaped") and restore them, there were some with really much text deleted due to this annoyance. - Ok, Singled Out (NCIS), Faking It (NCIS), Dead and Unburied (NCIS), Witch Hunt (NCIS)... basically I undeleted all the season 4 episodes. The other ones are copyright violoations. I'm sorry for lumping all of them into one group. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:27, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately only a big bunch of them were. User:Lizzie Harrison swears that all those created by her (those are before season 4) were neither such copy+paste articles, because she claims she never even heard of TV.com [3]. I fear there is another bunch to restore, if you are able to locate all those created by her. Thanks for restoring mine btw. --SoWhy Talk 20:47, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Next time, we all should try to discuss it and try to clear up the articles instead of mass-deleting just every article. Ok, if you can get her(?) to tell me what article or articles I should be looking at, please do so... otherwise I'm going to be spending hours looking at undelete logs... they can be a royal pain... its not as easy as just navigating to a page :(. Thanks! —— Eagle101 Need help? 21:00, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, it's hard for normal editors to do so because once deleted the pages disappear from the contributions list. I could tell you mine because I knew I did all those for the new season but Lizzie might not know afterwards. If there is no way to check the undelete logs for who created an article, maybe you could just restore all of them, then I would take my time on Saturday and go through all of them, removing the copyright-violations. It would be a load of work, that's true, but at least the layout would already be in place and easier than to identify those wrongly deleted (my guess is that only 50% of those deleted really were copyvios). --SoWhy Talk 08:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Digging
editOk I am working on this step by step, So far
- Kill Ari (NCIS) is a (CSD g12), was a blatant copyright violation of tv.com.
- Ice Queen (JAG) has since been recreated as a non-copyrighted page.
- Meltdown (JAG) has since been recreated as a non-copyrighted page.
- Yankee White (NCIS) has been restored.
- Hung Out to Dry (NCIS) has been restored.
- Seadog (NCIS) is a (CSD g12), was a blatant copyright violation of tv.com.
- The Immortals (NCIS) is a (CSD g12), was a blatant copyright violation of tv.com.
- Bête Noire (NCIS) is a (CSD g12), was a blatant copyright violation of tv.com.
- The Good Wives Club (NCIS) Most of this was a copyright violation, but I was able to find a few versions that were not, and selectively restored them. The copyright violation was from tv.com.
- See No Evil (NCIS) Again most of this was a copyright violation, especially more recent edits, again from tv.com. I restored non-copyright versions of the page.
- Hiatus (NCIS) Most was a copyright violation, especially more recent edits, Agian from tv.com. I restored good versions of the page. —— Eagle101 Need help? 17:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
I did those, I will look up more if you guys remember creating and or modifying parts of them. My log can be found at this page. It is fairly close to where I did the deletions. I will have a look at anything that you guys ask for. On a related note, these articles could do with some citations from reliable sources. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 17:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Since when do articles of already aired episodes need sources? The episodes themselves are the primary source, are they not? WP:V states that sources are needed for material challenged or likely to be challenged. Otherwise tons of articles about movies and episodes would need them, won't they?
- Apart from that, thanks for restoring those articles, as I pointed out before at least half of them were not or not completely copyvios which had to be deleted. Unfortunately, some users are over-enthusiastic. --SoWhy Talk 18:16, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Please undelete this article, Kevin Hughes (GAA), as notability was asserted by the Templates included in the article. - I would suggest that you create the article in your userspace, Say at User:Macca7174/Kevin Hughes (GAA). Make sure that that particular version that you write meets the A7 criteria, then post into mainspace. If you need help with anything feel free to ask. But that article was a very short stub that does not assert the notability of the subject. Would you like me to undelete the current version to your userspace? - If you find lyrics on the artists official website or an official fan club site (one you can prove to be official), feel free to link those in (in moderation of course). -- Heligoland 18:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll avoid adding such links in the future.
- Not to argue with you but the court ruling cited mandates that you "not post...addresses to websites that [you] know, or have reason to know, contain...material alleged to infringe...copyright." Certainly, I now know but I didn't before and (reasonably) believed that the widespread, sustained existence of such pages showed, ipso facto, their legality.
- Furthermore, enforcement of national mandates is fine but it can a slippery slope -- e.g., linking to the official website of Falun Gong is likely in violation of Chinese law. (And Wikipedia was blocked for a time in China precisely for these types of reasons.) But enforcement of only US laws is rather arbitrary and gives the appearance that Wikipedia is an arm of the US regime. Preferably, Wikipedia should link to anything and let the US or other regimes enforce their own laws.
- Nonetheless, your work is appreciated if accomodating US authorities is what is required for Wikipedia to exist. — AjaxSmack 18:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
I would like to appeal the deletion of Clark Kennington. The person passes the notability requirement in that the person is a key figure in a published book 1984 Scots: Team with a Heart: Highland Park Football by Creath Davis, author of over 12 published works. The person is iconic of an important mythos surrounding Texas High School Football, as evidenced by such books as Friday Night Lights, a book, later turned into a movie, about a the Odessa Permian Panters, a football team with a storied reputation similar to the Highland Park Scots.—Preceding unsigned comment added by clarkenn (talk • contribs)
“ | Clark Kennington was the starting tight end for the 1984 Highland Park Scots, a team memorialized in the book, The Team with Heart: 1984 Scots: Highland Park Football, written by Creath Davis. Clark's clutch play during the playoffs was a major reason for the Team's success, and was an important focus of the book. Notably, Clark made several important catches at crucial points in several playoff games, enabling the Team with Heart to keep their playoff drive alive. The dream came to an end in Odessa, Texas, where the Scots lost in the state semi finals to eventual state co-champion Odessa Permian Panthers, another high school football team made famous in the book, Friday Night Lights, which later was turned into a movie. What was notable about the game against Odessa Permian was that the community of Highland Park rallied around its team and chartered nine airplanes to transport the entire community to the game. | ” |
That is the content of that page. If he is indeed notable in an encyclopedia, probably would be best for it to go into the article about the book, or series of books. If you still want to contest this, I would suggest dropping by our deletion review. :D Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 18:05, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Dear Cleanup Taskforce member,
I noticed that you've listed yourself as a member who's interested in copy-editing. I'm a member of the League of Copyeditors, a project dedicated to managing the sizable backlog of articles needing a copy-edit. We're always looking for new members, and you'd make a great addition to the project! We've started a participation drive for the remainder of February. If you're interested, you can help clear the backlog by adopting the following goals each week:
- Select an article to copy-edit from the backlog. After your copy-edit, list the article in the ready for final proofread section.
- Select a different article to proofread from the ready for final proofread section.
Thanks, and happy editing! BuddingJournalist 07:38, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

My RfA
edit
Word of thanks for Eagle 101
Good morning (GMT time); I'd like to thank you for supporting, opposing, taking a neutral stance to, closing, suggesting I close or otherwise contributing to my recent RfA; unfortunately, I felt that although there were more support than oppose votes, the weight of the latter was too great for me to accept the promotion with so many not trusting me with the janitor's trolley - I therefore decided to end my nomination prematurely. The feedback I received was invaluable, and I am striving to start afresh with all of the advice my fellow Wikipedians offered. In order to meet the aim of adapting to your advice, I've drew up a list of aims (located here) which I intend to follow from this point onwards. If you have any further advice or comments for me, don't hesitate to post me a message at my talk page where it will be graciously and humbly accepted. Once again, thank you and I do hope to bump into you around the encyclopedia!

Telefanatic.com
editHi Eagle, not sure if I'm in the right place or not. If you are not the right person to speak about this question, please reply me here with the name of the right person / mailbox where I have to write to solve this problem. I was informed through my site about the block of my domain: Telefanatic.com. I don't think I deserve to stay in the international wiki black list if a stupid user used my domain to spam. I'm one of the webmistress of this site and I ask you to delete my domain in the black list. Telefanatic.com is not a porn site or something like that, it's an editorial portal dedicated to serials. Sincerly I don't think it has be listed as a spam or porn site as the others. So please, delete it. Thanks in advance for your reply and I hope that this situation can be solved asap.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.5.159.204 (talk • contribs)

INTERWIKI LIST
editHi Eagle,
So are you going to have a quick go at the Interwiki list at meta now (its shocking in places).
Also what was this whitelist thing you had? Is it relevant to what I'm trying to do?
--BozMo talk 16:21, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, just propose stuff at the interwiki list, and I will have a look see. Do remember that that list is for more then just this wiki. There are other wikis that use that list. So I would say list shocking stuff there, and then I or another meta admin will see to it. As far as WP:WHITELIST, (if that is what you are talking about), you are an admin here now, feel free to edit it... I just don't have the time to go through that mess, though I will give it shot ;). —— Eagle101 Need help? 16:52, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok with the interwiki list. No I meant the greenlist which you took the p**s out off a few times User:BozMo/whitelist which is intended to start in the other direction with the totally ok sites. Don't worry, I will try to explain. I am confusing, perhaps confused myself and you may well disagree. But its not a big ask. Two unrelated things:
1) As discussed the interwiki list, I have raised a question at meta but that' not urgent. At present this gives a lot of low-qual sites links without nofollow just because they used to have wikis on them.
2) EVENTUALLY the intention was stated by Jimbo/Brion (AFAICT) to introduce some sort of sysop approved bypass for nofollow. Reasons are a different discussion (my view is at User_talk:Pascal.Tesson/Archive_4#Nofollow which I don't plan on repeating). On wikitech there seems to be a view sysop approving link by link is hard to code (e.g. does that mean only a sysop can revert a blanked page with an approved link in it) so some sort of greenlist is needed. Hence I am trying to construct a greenlist. This is very tedious (5 million links, 250,000 URLs although perhaps 2000 URLs have half the links). Perhaps this means we stop at 2000 links or perhaps we can find some smart way to identify (by bot) the URLs to add to a greenlist. Someone said you might have some ideas about the smart bit. No work requested, just ideas. e.g. I could fetch the UK charity commission website and pull out the URLs of every UK charity (but actually we don't really link to many of these except the international development ones), or I could find a list of university URLs (but some of them seem to be like geocities for academics so I am not sure), or better we could pull a list off WP using some criteria. --BozMo talk 08:20, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

black list www.fotoplatforma.pl
editHello, It is a pity You find my photos as a spam. I give free big size photos without any watermarks for many subjects to wikipedia from two years. More of my links were translated by admins to original language and are used as precious images to the text. If someone remove my links I never do it again - if someone find it worth to keep I was very satisfied. My high quality photo colections of European butterflies is the only one in the web. I get some valuable awards for it so if You remove Sommerfugl diff da:83.25.209.114 www.fotoplatforma.pl/dk/sommerfugl (wikipedia) - it is Your choice but nobody ever before say it is spam.
My flowers gallery - macro shots are also many times much better and much more interesting then common photos in wikpedia resources so if someone write about flowers this kind of photos give to people feeling that they get looking in the nature. If You find it as a spam I'm very sorry but this are valuable photos for most people.
May be my way to cooperate with wikipedia was wrong but it has worked so far good ( I mean - if someone remove my links I never do it again - if someone find it worth to keep I was very satisfied.) Someone said that the reason of black list is that I use AdSense on my webpages - is it true? I have to pay for my transfer so I need AdSense.
This is Your wikipedia - You are Admin and if You do not allow to add any external link to wikipedia from my www.fotoplatforma.pl - I have to give up and will never add my photos again. Please remove me from Your blac list because it hurt me and it is very unpleasant thing for me.

- Yeah I blacklisted it because we have a policy agianst cross wiki spam. It is hard to chase down, difficult to stop, unless you add it to the blacklist. If you want it removed I would suggest asking on this section. I or another meta admin will have a look. —— Eagle101 Need help? 14:51, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
It was honour to me to show some of interesting photos in Wikipedia but when you find it as a spam I was surprised. If you have possibility - check up all my links and You will find some of them are very old because many people and authors of articles find them valuable. I spent some years to collect photos of butterflies and flowers and more. Most of them are very sharp, colorful, valuable. I worked hard to add good quality links to wikipedia. More then 50% of visitors add my website www.fotoplatforma.pl to favorite, Google and Yahoo show my website very high because this content is not spam. Do you ever find my links about butterflies among apple tree? What do you mean - cross spam? Photos of natural environment means thousands subjects and if one day someone find nature as a cross spam it is really new point of view for me.
If You decided to stop my work to Wikipedia - let me know - thats all and enough to do with me. Spam list with my www.fotoplatforma.pl is unsuitable and wrongful to me thats the reason I asked to remove it.
best regards Marek foto@fotoplatforma.pl
- Ok, I guess I was not clear ;). The reason why your site is on the blacklist is because one IP spammed (added it) it across several wikis. (websites). Ie, for every language article we had in Blomst (I assume Bloom), that IP added the link. The only way to stop the IP was to blacklist the site. In addition it is a conflict of interest (I will assume that this is you adding the links to wikipedia), for you to add links to sites that you own or are affiliated with. Please have a look over what constitutes spamming here (thats for this wiki only, but the concept of spam is pretty much the same everywhere). It is not wikipedia rejecting your work, rather its just a reaction to constant addition of that link to wikipedia by the same account. Also if you have good images, I would suggest helping the wiki by uploading them to commons (here), so that others can look at your images inline with the articles. After all you are here to help wikipedia, not direct traffic to your own site, Right? —— Eagle101 Need help? 20:23, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Couple of things
editHi! It looks like your our bot guy for novels project and an admin. So on an admin level I was wondering if it's possible for you to partially protect Emma. It seems most of the vandilism that myself and many others has reverted comes from many different IP addresses. I've heard and seen this done other for other articles but I'm fairly sure only and admin can do it. We would really appreciate it, maybe some real editing came get done to it.
On another note is there anything we can do to help with bot thing? I'm not really sure how it works but you know we've worked through one list and some of the others are looking Umm war-beaten, for lack of a better phrase. Cheers!Jask99 17:16, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- The article is probably not getting quite enough vandalism at the moment to be protected. As far as the bot goes, I've tried twice to generate the list, there is something bugged with the script when it gets to the ~ 2450th article. Until I figure out what the heck changed (I'm assuming there is a change somewhere to make previously good code bad.) its going to be a few days. I've got that on my list of things to fix this weekend. —— Eagle101 Need help? 17:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hubby once had something like your problem. The code was just fine but the database would only hold 100 records so the sample 200 records they had would always stop and give a runtime error on record 100. No idea if this could be it but thought I'd send it your way in case it'll help this weekend. Good Luck!! Jask99 18:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I know thats not the problem, but its something similar, (I know the bot is good up to at least ~32,000) —— Eagle101 Need help? 18:14, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

D6 Bot
editI saw you blocked this, I don't know if you saw my message here or not. I'm not convinced a bot should decide any person born in a particular year should be automatically be added to the 'Living people' category or not? Thanks. One Night In Hackney 00:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- No I have not seen that, I blocked based on how fast it was going without a bot flag. The other issues can be hashed out elsewhere, as long as its not clogging up the recent changes feed. Cheers! —— Eagle101 Need help? 00:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- Can you de-block the bot, please check Special:Listusers, it's listed there. -- User:Docu

Please remove my website from your blacklist, I am not spamming, the links are relevant. I just do not have an extended period of time to be in front of the computer placing links.

- I ran into you on IRC a couple of days ago, you thought we had seen each other before, we concluded that we hadn't. Today, I noticed I was editing something you had edited and thought I'd mention it -- that this time we really have run into each other before. This was supposed to be just a friendly note that has now gotten way out of hand. --Selket Talk 22:52, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
About two weeks ago, you removed a link to a forum from this article. I understand that forums generally aren't reliable sources, but the newspaper article in it was. I've readded the note and referred directly to the newspaper article instead of the forum. Now anyone who wants to read the article will have to dig up a paper copy, but at least it leaves the fact cited. (Side note: if you remove a note section in the future, you may also want to remove the tag pointing to the note). - Mgm|(talk) 13:32, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

editHi again Eagle 101, even if it doesn't regards me directly (I'm already approved), can you update NPW's checkpage?
