Guidelines and Policies

edit

I don't have to read all the policies and quidelines and study every detail in them before I start editing here. If I don't know them, and I make an error, it would be good if you learned how to tell me in a nice, polite way. The fact that you are an admin doesn't make you the one who is allowed to be rude. Nice day. ackoz   17:21, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if I have been rude--I didn't intend to be. And you're right, you don't have to know all the policies to edit--I sure as heck don't (I'm not an admin, by the way, just another editor). But I think you do have some responsibility to know policies if you're making official accusations that someone is breaking them, especially if you're making them on AN/I. That's pretty far up the escalation ladder, past, say, putting a message on his talk page.
But OK, I do apologize if I came off as rude. I intended my "please read the policy" as a gentle pointer, not a scolding. I can see how it probably sounded harsh--my bad. · rodii · 21:09, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. You do not come off as rude. Rather, you come off as self-righteous, snide and disrespectful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.155.75.252 (talk) 14:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
And you come across as obsessive, stubborn, wholly lacking in a sense of proportion, unwilling to listen to well-meant advice, and incompetent at the tools of Wikipedia (you're responding to a four year old comment). So I guess we're equally flawed human beings. · rodii · 15:24, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Glad I'm not nuts. :-D Yeah that article is a perfect example of fancruft. Fans of the show are writing the article and they don't quite see that they have to write the article for everyone, not just other fans. I might take a look at editing it later today and see what I can do. --Woohookitty(meow) 14:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Climbing the IDS Tower dressed as Batman

edit

That's crazy talk!

(I hope you got that I was kidding with my "legal threat" comment.)

I knew you were kidding about the "legal threat" comment. Besides, there are a lot of silly lawsuits out there. If someone can sue the manufacturer of a lawnmower because they tried to use it as a hedge trimmer and cut their thumbs off, then there's a possibility that someone might sue Wikipedia because they were hunted down by the Green Goblin while dressed as Spider-Man. I called my state senator and asked him to sponsor a bill absolving nonprofit organizations from liability in case their volunteers dress up as cartoon characters in protest, but his office says he's busy working on some tax bill or something like that. --Elkman 04:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Too far

edit

I tend to agree with your edit, still the decree template wasn't too far in my opinion because it is so "over the top" that it couldn't be taken "too far"... there should be some sort of template up there though for some sort of an "officialness". Also, a minor detail but that page isn't an article but seems to be heading towards becoming essay like. :-) Cheers. Netscott 14:36, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

East Timor is part of Asia, Southeast Asia more specifically, PERIOD! Even while East Timor has cultural and linguistical ties with "Melanesia" it is geographically part of Asia (Southeast Asia) and universally accepted so.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.255.230.227 (talkcontribs)

Blogger move.

edit

What do you think about moving Blogger.com to Blogger (service)? Ultimately, it is a web service that allows people to post and host blogs (pardon the rhyming), and yet it's not a company because Google has full ownership over Blogger currently and it is now only a division of Google. Furthermore, Blogger itself was not a company - Pyra Labs was. Any ideas? Please let me know. Thanks! –- kungming·2| (Talk·Contact)06:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blogger.com has been moved to Blogger (service), and Blogger is now a dab page. Funnily enough, Blogger always was a disambiguation page in the past, but rather, vandalism caused it to become a redirect. Thank you for all the help! :-) –- kungming·2 | (Talk·Contact)16:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hawaiian language and Hawaiian phonology

edit

No problem with the "seealso" vs. "main" thing. Actually, at the time of your edit I was just finishing reading about how to enter those templates, because I had never entered one before. I was just about to enter the template when you beat me to it by 26 seconds. So I merely adjusted it from "seealso" to "main", but we had basically the same idea at the same time.

Also, thanks for adding some visual interest to the Hawaiian language page by putting in that family tree image for the Polynesian family. Agent X 03:19, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Rodii. I noticed on your page, User:Rodii/CMSlist, that you have listed the program Bitweaver as "nn, delete". I thought you might be interested that the article is currently undergoing a Deletion review here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bitweaver2. The article has already been deleted twice and the author keeps reposting it. I thought you might visit and give us your insight. And thanks for all the hard work you have put into the Comparison of content management systems article. You guys have been doing a great job of keeping that from becoming a spam dump. Ypsilanti, Michigan, Wikipedia:Avoid trivia sections, and WP:MUSIC

edit

Hello —

I noticed you removed some text from Ypsilanti, Michigan on the basis of Wikipedia:Avoid trivia sections in articles. The guideline, however, says "Lists of facts, as found in trivia sections, are better presented within the context of the text rather than in a section of unrelated items." Specifically the guideline "does not suggest deletion of trivia sections." So I've restored the text under a more specific heading ("In music").

You also removed some text about the band Bloodlined Calligraphy because they are "not notable". The band may or may not be notable under WP:MUSIC, but the standard for mentioning a music group in another article should be lower than for creating an article devoted to them. I find them sufficiently notable within the idea of "Ypsilanti in music" — their music engages with some of the issues laid forth in the article, and would be of value to anyone studying the town.

Feel free to revert or discuss at Talk:Ypsilanti, Michigan. Omphaloscope » talk 15:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does the channel down the "middle" of the double row of atolls have a name? Does it have any significance culturally or geographically? rodii 00:00, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

You asked this question last year, sorry for the late reply. The name of that channel is Alihuraskandu. It doesn't have much significance, except that in certain seasons the boats coming from the Southern Maldives were using it to travel. Despite the protection it offered, there was the treacherous Fussaru reef (West of Felidhu Atoll) to reckon with. Many local boats got lost there. Mohonu 12:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I understand where you're coming from but I can't get my head around needing to verify someone's name. Would, say, Captain Beefheart need a footnote verifying his real name was Don Van Vliet? (Actually, good idea, I'll look there.) Best, · rodii · 19:21, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
