^The natural increase is the number of births minus the number of deaths.
^ abThe population numbers are from January 1 of the year. To calculate the birth rate (i.e. number of births per thousand inhabitants), divide the number of births by the average population for that year and multiply the result by thousand. To calculate the death rate, use the number of deaths instead the number of births. The average population for a year is calculated as the average between the population on January 1 of that year and the population on January 1 of the next year.
