Sakura Sakurada

edit

Hi Cherryblossom1982, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you find contributing here as fun and interesting as I have. Great work at the Sakura Sakurada article so far! There are just a couple things I'd like to point out-- I don't doubt any of the text you've added to the article, but we need sourcing. Especially in articles such as these, anything that goes unsourced either gets deleted, or endangers the entire article for deletion-- so meticulous sourcing is important. (If you're not comfortable with sourcing format, just stick in a web link or something, and I'll be happy to fix it up.) On the filmography-- again, great work. I like to put these in tables though-- it's not required, but it just looks nice, and provides a standard format among these articles. When you add to them, please don't overwrite an existing table. It would be best if you could add your entries to the table, but, again, if you're not comfortable with that, just put them after the existing table, and I'll format it later. Also, for sourcing the filmography (or anything else) Japanese Wikipedia articles (though possibly accurate), are not considered reliable sourcing, and will endanger the article. A link to the video companies which contain the actress' filmographies should be fine. Again-- a great start at Wikipedia. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 18:42, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Cherryblossom1982-- those look like good sources, and I'll format them tomorrow (I've only got about 15 minutes online tonight). About Japanese Wiki as a source-- Open Wikis are not considered reliable sources. I can understand this, since anyone can edit a Wiki-- just like here. Personally, I look at Wiki articles as only as good as their sourcing. If a Wiki article contains outside sourcing, then use those sources, not the Wiki article. If the Wiki article has no sourcing, then it's basically an anonymous editor writing things that may or may not be accurate. The Japanese Wiki articles often frustrate me, because I assume the writers have gathered their information from good sources, but they rarely cite them... You say you've verified the Japanese with outside sources-- those are the sources to cite in our articles. I'll try to work on the Sakura Sakurada article this weekend. I understand about the table-- tables on filmographies this big get a bit awkward. There are probably ways we can work around it though... I'll play around with a few formats. Glad to have someone else helping on these articles. Happy editing! Dekkappai (talk) 04:13, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Cherryblossom1982. I've just posted a version of your filmography in table format. I've kept all the data you had in your list, just changed things around a little. If we need to cut any one field out, I would suggest the "Duration". But I think it looks OK. Still some changes need to be done-- the intro to the Filmography will have to be changed, and I'll reformat the citations to the sources later. We will probably get complaints about the lenght of the filmography, and we might want to think about putting it as a stand-alone article later. (I suggest holding off on doing that though, since this is the type of subject that often comes up for deletion-- no need tempting fate until we have to.) Anyway, I want to compliment you again on a great job on a very exhaustive filmography. Is Sakurada the only subject you plan on doing this thorough a job with? My time for researching these subjects is very limited, so I can't put together as complete lists as you have. If you want to work on filmographies for other JAV actresses, I'll be happy to help put it all together. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 22:29, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Cherryblossom1982. Yes, Maria Ozawa certainly deserves a full filmography, I would think. I'll look around for info (i.e., evidence of "notability") for Akane Hotaru, and see if we can get an article started up for her. If so, I'll probably do my usual smaller filmography, then let you tackle the whole thing later when you get the urge. Cheers, and happy editing! Dekkappai (talk) 16:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Akane Hotaru

edit

Hi again, Cherryblossom1982. If this Japanese Wiki article on Akane Hotaru is correct, then Akane Hotaru is guaranteed "notability." It says Weekly Playboy gave her the "AV Academy Award rookie award." I'll try to verify this, and start putting together an article on her later this week. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 22:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Cherryblossom. Those links will be very useful. I've started an article that I'll post in a scratch-page later today. I've come across her ballet background too, and it makes me wonder... We had an article on an AV actress who performed in 2 or 3 ballet-themed videos. Her only claim to fame at the time (a significant one, I think), was that she was scheduled to appear in Takeshi Kitano's then-future film, Glory to the Filmmaker!. The article was deleted and I've since lost the actress's name. Could it have been Akane Hotaru? Dekkappai (talk) 17:53, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Here it is: User:Dekkappai/Tools/Japan/In progress. Feel free to add anything to it while in progress. I'll put it up as an article once notability is more firmly established. Dekkappai (talk) 18:32, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pointing out the mainstream film appearance-- that will help in case anyone tries to delete it, but I think we've got notability pretty firmly established now, so I've put the article up. Take a look at Hotaru Akane and feel free to add anything you can. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 18:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Cherryblossom. If you know of any other big subjects in the field who don't have articles, let me know. Dekkappai (talk) 17:46, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Stephen Hunter

edit

Hi Cherryblossom. That's an interesting little section you put in the Sakura Sakurada article about the Stephen Hunter book. I checked it, and have no doubt it's all true-- he mentions the name "Sakura" (which, in itself is not positive proof), but then goes on to name some of her appearances and describe her fairly well... It would be nice to have an outside source for this though-- an interview or article where (preferably) he states it, or a critic points it out. Where did you find this? Just from the book? Again, very interesting, and great work-- I'll try to reformat it and maybe add more sourcing to it later. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 18:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah... The forum chat won't be usable, but I didn't notice the acknowledgements section-- that is pretty conclusive evidence. I'll source it later. Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 20:10, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Riko Tachibana

edit

Thanks for the note, Cherryblossom. I don't follow these things much (I think it's basically a game where the rules are constantly being changed, and that, basically, any celebrity is "notable" and worthy of an article, a thought which is heresy here) but I think any big award still qualifies as "notable" for an AV actress, and will save her article here on Wikipedia. Just to be safe though, I like to put as many references, sources, and points of "notability" together before I start up the article. I'll get to work on Tachibana as soon as I get the chance. Oh, by the way-- in reference to awards, if you know of any regular, high-profile JAV awards ceremonies and sources that cover them, please let me know. I occasionally come across one-- Weekly Playboy seems to give out such awards, for one-- but I can't find any kind of comprehensive list down through the years, of who won what when... It would make covering this subject much easier! Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 20:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. I've started work on Riko Tachibana HERE. Feel free to tinker with it while in progress. One discouraging thing-- and one of the reasons writing on these subjects is so difficult, when "sourcing" and "notability" are applied as if the subject were making films in the U.S., in English-- is that I've found two articles I'd saved which give good info on Tachibana. These articles are now no longer on the web, and not archived... The Mainichi Shimbun article can be used, I assume, as a print source. The one on the AV Award (I've pasted it at the bottom of the work in progress) will be tougher to justify... especially since that site has been taken over by some U.S. site... And now I see this even MORE discouraging news: Mainichi is ending its "Waiwai" section due to complaints.[1] Several of my articles on major subjects in this area were based almost entirely on "Waiwai"... Jesus, the goddamned Puritans are even taking over Japan now. :-( Dekkappai (talk) 17:19, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Cherryblossoms! The anti-content, pro-destruction atmosphere at Wikipedia is really beginning to get to me, and this may be my last new article here, I've been putting together some new info on Sada Abe that I'll probably put at that article too, and then decide if I'm going to continue here or not. Anyway, when & if I leave, you might want to join me over at a project where you can do this kind of work (though limited to more buxom models) without worrying about who is going to delete what, for whatever reason, good or bad. Here is the site: http://www.boobpedia.com/boobs/Main_Page Boobpedia (Warning: contains boobs). Also, my email will remain open, and feel free to contact me that way. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 19:18, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hope you didn't mind that bit of drama above-- I teeter on the brink of throwing up my arms and leaving all the time... Anyway, thought you'd like to know, I got to work on the Riko Tachibana tonight, and have just put her up live. A bot has already added a link to a Chinese wiki article I had missed. Thanks for the help, keep up the great work, and cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 06:14, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Cherryblossoms! Let me know next time you find another good subject. Dekkappai (talk) 16:15, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maria Ozawa

edit

Hi, Cherryblossoms-- did you notice this new article: Maria Ozawa filmography :-) I think the removal of the filmography to its own article is a good decision, since it was overwhelming the article. It's general procedure to break off large sections-- especially lists of works or filmographies-- from articles when they become too large. Separate filmographies also allow, sometimes, inclusion of images for significant film/videos... So, I recommend we have the filmography on its own, and have a very short "Selected filmography"-- with significant videos listed, and a link to "Main article Maria Ozawa filmography" at the top. I'll go ahead and revert the re-addition of the filmography, since, I think, it's all there in the new article. Feel free to discuss if you have different thoughts. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 21:46, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback, Cherryblossom. I too can see how it would be better to have the whole thing together-- which is why I never split it off myself, though it had passed the point when, by Wiki-convention, it should have long ago. Probably best to just go along with "consensus" here though. My philosophy about things like this is, as long as all the information is still here, I don't worry too much about the formatting. I only get really excited when they start trying to delete information. About the concerns of the verifiability of the biography, though-- it's still verified (as much as these things can be) through the inline citations, many of which will be links to articles on individual videos. So the removal of the formal Filmography section won't weaken that, I don't think. What we should do is make a smaller, abbreviated-- maybe bulleted instead of in a table-- "Selected Filmography". Maybe just list the videos that are mentioned in the text of the article, with a link to the "Main article"? Unless you beat me to it, I'll see if I can work a bit on it later today. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 13:39, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
By the way-- the removal of the Filmography shows how small the article actually is... Surely we can find more to write on an actress as prominent as Maria Ozawa... I'll look around and try to add to it. Dekkappai (talk) 17:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar

edit
  The Original Barnstar
For your excellent work in a notoriously difficult, but fascinating subject. I searched and searched for substantial information on the AV Open, but could not put together anything resembling an article. Needless to say, I was astounded at the work you put together, and very much enjoyed reading your article. Congratulations, and keep up the great work!. Dekkappai (talk) 13:28, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure, and it's well earned. The trouble I ran into, I think, was because I stuck my nose out of this pleasant little area of research... I went out seeking the trouble, and I found it :-) Stick with this subject, and just make sure your articles are well-sourced, and pass whatever the Kafkaesque "notability" game rules are at the moment, and you'll be fine. I've been working at Boobpedia, and approaching my 200th JAV actress article there. I've got over 100 stubs started on individual videos! We're digging in depth in a couple articles, and-- in my opinion-- we already have better articles on a few more mainstream subjects than Wikipedia does! I'm still poking in here to pick up the articles that are deleted from Wikipedia on a daily basis, and transferring them over to our project-- a depressingly profitable activity... Actually, I'm finding this rather satisfying, and I do see that there is a lot of work still to be done on Japanese erotic cinema here at Wiki. We don't even have an article on Black Snow yet! (I always held off on that one till I could track down a poster. Still haven't found one.) Anyway, I, for one, am watching and enjoying your great work. I noticed the new actress articles before the awards. Just assume that, working in this area, you'll be something of an embarrassment to the main Japan project, and the Porn project has, basically, been hijacked by Machiavellian, deletionist nutcases, and those who enable them. Once I've got a good handle on the Japan area at Boobpedia, I may very well jump back in here, and just stick to this fascinating, under-represented area. Until then, keep up the great work. It's being read and enjoyed. Dekkappai (talk) 17:17, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nao Oikawa

edit

You're making some great progress on some very difficult subjects! I noticed the new half article and the others... It looks like you're planning an article for Nao Oikawa. If so, you probably already have the jmate interview, the Japan Today article and the JMDB entry. But you may not have the Mainichi Shimbun article that was deleted and scrubbed from the 'net. (http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/waiwai/archive/news/2003/09/20030914p2g00m0dm999000c.html "Porno world speads its legs and shoots out a few secrets" August 16, 2007). I've got it saved, and the part pertinent to Oikawa is: "Payments for Japanese adult video actresses can vary upon the type of flick they appear in. Norika Atejisu was once a regular employee of moviemaker V&R Planning, but turned her hand to appearing before the cameras, doing so for as little as 10,000 yen per movie. Unknown actresses who perform in a single movie are usually paid somewhere from 50,000 yen to 70,000 yen, but some will show up for less than a single 10,000 yen note. Top blue movie actresses such as Nao Oikawa, however, can command as much as 5 million yen per flick if they're reasonably well known, according to Shukan Jitsuwa." Another is: http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/waiwai/archive/news/2005/12/20051214p2g00m0dm012000c.html (August 16, 2007) "Turning tricks helps keep desperate families together": "Without the support from my mother, I never would have made it as an adult video performer," Nao Oikawa tells Tokusatsu Shinsengumi (1/7). "When things were rough and I wanted to walk away from the job, she was there for me."

Some people have been removing these Mainichi articles as dead links, but stick to your guns on them-- they existed as sources, and you can still claim them as print sourcing. Keep up the great work! Dekkappai (talk) 02:40, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow! Another great article! I might have named her farewell video A Woman Called Nao rather than "the", in reference to A Woman Called Sada Abe, but the Japanese titles are so different that no reference was probably intended on the producer's part. I'll see if I can get back into this area again-- I'm adding a little to Tetsuji Takechi. If Japanese erotic entertainment deserves an FA, he'd be a very appropriate first... not that I'd want to go through that process on a controversial topic... Anna May Wong was tough enough! Anyway, keep up the amazing work! Dekkappai (talk) 03:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem-- Adult Broadcasting Awards‎? Another fine job, and these award articles will be useful for expanding the project with new articles (based on the winners)... Too bad so many of them are already blue-linked, but then I guess that's proof that we've been writing on the "notable" ones all along... Dekkappai (talk) 23:46, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Miki Mizuasa

edit
On 18 November, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Miki Mizuasa, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 05:21, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You managed to get a "New Half" article on the mainpage? Congratulations! Apparently there was quite a discussion on it I was not aware of. Here is one thread, at least. Dekkappai (talk) 07:00, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Too bad the nominator didn't let you know about the nomination ahead of time... Here is a fuller discussion. Did you get to see the article on the mainpage? That's a mark of achievement! I saw it there last night, but don't see it now. I hope it wasn't taken down by the pro-censorship crowd. If so, this is something new. I managed to get two (three if you count Michiko Maeda's nude scene) Japanese erotic cinema articles at DYK without any controversy at all...
Right, your awards articles will give us a good variety of "notable" subjects, but not really a very wide selection-- just fairly mainstream subjects within the last two or three years (since these awards have been running). It will still be difficult to write on even extremely notable stars from 20 years or so ago, because 1) the voluminous amount of sourcing on them produced at the time and over the years is not accessible online, and 2) there were no AV awards (that I'm aware of) at the time. Then there are the out-of-mainstream subjects that I would like to write on-- do you know the exquisite BBW model Minagi Usagi? Very popular/"notable" in that particular niche of the industry, but she's not going to be sharing awards with Aoi Sora at the AV Open any time soon. But I guess that's what Boobpedia is for. :) Then there are major figures like director Akira Takatsuki and his amazing Cinema Unit GAS girls... I see we've got an article on bakunyuu, a term, as far as I know, Takatsuki coined, and which went into common usage through the big-bust genre. Our article makes it look like it's just an anime genre... Congratulations again! Dekkappai (talk) 19:40, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translation question

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom-- Do you have any idea how to translate Kimiko Matsuzaka's debut video, "でっか~いの、めっけ" I get "deka~i", of course, but am puzzled by the "mekke". 00:23, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Oops... yes, that was me above.... Damn, that title has been puzzling me for nearly 20 years now!... In other news-- have you ever heard about Mitsuyasu Maeno, the Nikkatsu Roman Porno actor who died in a kamikaze attack on a millionaire ultra-nationalist? Never let it be said the world of Japanese porn is boring and predictable :-) I'll try to fix up the article on him. Who knows, we may get another DYK out of it. Dekkappai (talk) 00:06, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Japanese Adult Video Awards

edit

More great work! I'm glad to see this one has a few slightly older subjects-- I'm sure I've gathered some data on a few of these... Also, it seems like I found a few intriguing references to older awards-- one by Playboy Weekly, I think... I'll see if I can put together whatever information I have. If you've haven't already covered it, I'll let you know. Keep up the great work! (I'm trying to get my kamikaze porn-actor article in shape, and then I'll try to get to work on a few of the award-winning actresses on your lists.) Dekkappai (talk) 00:48, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

About the data mentioned above: 日本アダルト放送大賞2007の結果 is a dead-link from March 28, 2007, archived here. Here is an article you probably already have as a source. 日本アダルト放送大賞、女優大賞に穂花, ditto.
Now a few intriguing indications of older awards: The Shin-Toho biographies mention "best actress", "Zoom-Up" and "Tish Goro" awards going back to the '70s: Ayumi Taguchi says "In 1985, she won The Best Porn Actress Award". Mayuko Sakai "won the Rising Star Award in 2000, and the Best Atress Award in 2001." Kyoko Hashimoto "After winning many awards, she retired a few years ago." Mayuko Hino, "She received the Best Actress Award at the ZOOM-UP Movie Festival as well as Osaka News Paper Porn Actress Award in 1979." Nakazawa Keiko, "She won 3rd GORO Tish Madonna Award." Naomi Oka "In 1979, she won the Best Supporting Actress in Zoom-Up Movie Festival Award." I was unable to find anything else other than these mysterious mentions, indicating there is a goldmine of information out there somewhere, probably available only in old Japanese newspapers and magazines. Dekkappai (talk) 00:00, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossoms. Good work on the Hokuto Corporation-- and this helps with my (off-wiki) work, in disentangling the complex system of AV companies... I did a few quick searches just now to see if I could add anything to your article, and came across another company with the same name-- Hokuto Corporation, 138-1 Minamihori, Nagano, 381-8533; Business: Agriculture: Production of many varieties of edible mushrooms; Year Founded: 1964; Annual Sales: $382.70 M Sales; Employees: 780; URL http://www.hokto-kinoko.co.jp... But I don't know whether it's worth mentioning to differentiate the AV company from the mushroom company, since we've only got the one article. Dekkappai (talk) 18:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey-- thanks for that work on the Zoom-Up Awards! Too bad they came along after the golden ages of the Pink film were over, but this will certainly help build up the post-1970s section of the Pink film article. I think it's close to "Good Article" level already, and the post-70s are its main area of weakness. Your work here is tempting me to get back into working here full-time! Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 19:15, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mitsuyasu Maeno

edit

What do you think? does Mitsuyasu Maeno belong on the Japanese erotic cinema template? I'm not sure... Dekkappai (talk) 01:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Right-- it's just an interesting story, not a porn actor article. His relation to Japanese erotic cinema is pretty weak-- nobody would go searching for him as a "porn star". He's known almost exclusively because of his pretty notable demise. I'll go ahead and put him in though, since he did act in about 20 roman pornos-- that was his occupation. And he did get name-billing in at least one that is notable enough for its own article-- Tokyo Emmanuelle-- which I'll try to work up eventually, since I've found a poster of it. Dekkappai (talk) 20:19, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Runa Akasaka

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom1982. I've got a favor to ask: Another user created the Runa Akasaka article today, and within hours it was put up for deletion. I've seen her name around enough to believe that she's notable, and I will do what I can to improve the article tonight-- though I'm in the midst of a major off-Wiki project as well.... So, if you can look into the matter as well, it would be much appreciated. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 23:22, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Cherryblossom. I'll do what I can at the article and the Afd. There is another one currently-- Ayame Ikehata. I looked into this article last year, ane, unfortunately, couldn't find much. I'll give it another try later. In the meantime, you might want to give it a look too. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 16:49, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Re: Ayame Ikehata: Oops! I'm in the middle of compiling a filmography right now! I'll integrate your work into it :) Dekkappai (talk) 01:46, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Cherryblossom-- I had a feeling she must have some point of notability. I kept seeing "Popular jukujo Ayame Ikehata..." Anyway, I've posted some work on the filmography. It was pretty quick & sloppy-- no director, title, and few actress names translated. And the dates have some unnecessary "DVD" or "VHS" info beside them. Feel free to work on it. Otherwise I'll clean it up tomorrow. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 02:33, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. Do you have any idea what the claim that Ayano Murasaki is a "feminist" pornographic actress is supposed to mean? It's puzzled me since it was first posted. I suspect that the editor who added this is a non-native English speaker and s/he meant "female" actress... Or does she somehow incorporate feminism into her performances? Dekkappai (talk) 20:59, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK-- I say we take it out, because it's bound to confuse anyone who looks at the article. I thought I had sourced the Million award thing... but I must be thinking of another article, because I see no evidence of it. We both know that there is a lot of info out there on these subjects which is only available through Japanese print, so, if a native-speaker put it in, I don't really doubt the award. It's fair game for someone to remove though, until we can source it... Dekkappai (talk) 23:41, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

h.m.p.

edit

Do you really think that this edit was sensible? You replaced the direct link to the article with a link to disambiguation page. If you do not like the title Houyuu Media Produce, feel free to move the article to something like h.m.p. (Japorn company). But I feel that h.m.p. should remain as a redirect. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 20:51, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

If I can butt in. I've seen this company name many times (h.m.p.), and always wondered what it stood for, and I thank Cherryblossom for answering that question. I highly doubt that any user-- even a native Japanese speaker-- looking for information on this studio, will think of "Houyuu Media Produce". Note the Japanese Wiki article is titled simply "H.m.p." So, an article name using "h.m.p." in some form seems most useful, ah... "encyclopedic" if that's the correct Wiki-ese. Dekkappai (talk) 21:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dekkappai, did you actually read my message? I said feel free to move the article to something like. Why have you or Cherryblossom1982 not done that move? — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 21:46, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was under the impression we were having a discussion. My mistake. Dekkappai (talk) 21:49, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cherryblossom. How about you & I having a discussion? So that it might not cause confusion, maybe we should include some text after the "H.m.p." Ja-Wiki includes "株式会社" (Kabushiki gaisha) right after the name. So maybe "H.m.p. company"? Or some variation on that? Dekkappai (talk) 21:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see you've moved it. "H.m.p. (Japan)" works fine for me. Dekkappai (talk) 21:55, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thoughts

edit

Now that that's straightened out, I've had a few thoughts in the back of my mind for a while.

  1. Do you think we're at the point where we should separate the "erotic" (i.e., softcore pink films, and their personnel) from the "AV" subjects at the Template:Japanese erotic cinema? When that template was first started, we saw that eventually the AV world might need its own template, though there is some overlap between pink and AV...
  2. That large lead section at Chronology of adult videos in Japan was written before I started work on the Pink film article. To keep the Chronology more of a Chronology, and because that text deals with pink film as much as AV, maybe I'll cut that section at the Chronology way down and move most of it over to pink film. I've just purchased the Jasper Sharp book on Pink Film (Behind the Pink Curtain), and it's full of very useful information-- So maybe it will help push that article up to GA status before long.
  3. With the list of potential subjects coming up on your awards lists, maybe we should call dibs before starting work on another article, to prevent duplication of work. Living up to my user name, I'll call rights to Sakurako Kaoru for now ;-) (trusting that her award will keep her clear of the always-watchful AfD-vultures.) I'm still devoting most of my wiki-type work to Boobpedia though, so work will probably be slow...
  4. I've wanted to do an article on a major AV for some time. The natural choice (besides the award-winners) would be Ken-chan, the Laundry Man (洗濯屋ケンちゃん, Sentakuya Kenchan) (1982). Last I looked I couldn't find a cover of that video though, or much real info on it. (I'm pretty sure I rented that video about 1984 though.) Dekkappai (talk) 23:43, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh right-- the Pornography in Japan article was another one of my "thoughts". That article is a mess. It needs to be rewritten from scratch, but every time I think about starting work on it, the sheer size of the job prevents me. I've looked at the corresponding article on U.S. porn, but that one looks like a legal document. Dry as hell, no mention of the actual films/personnel, just discusses it from a legal perspective. Though legal aspects should be part of it, I'd like the Japan one to take a more historical view. I've also been collecting bits & pieces on Korean erotic entertainment. It's really hard to find anything on their version of AVs unless you're there. But I have found some useful information on a pink film-like era in the '70s and '80s, and individual films of the time... I tried finding info on Ken-chan last night, and didn't have much luck. But I'm sure there's something significant on it out there somewhere. Instead I threw out the Maria Takagi stub, "justified" with just the addition of the five awards from Adult Video Grand Prix Awards. I was editing while inebriated, in a feisty mood, and thought, "To Hell with 'em. If they just want articles that pass on a technicality, fine. Here are the awards, no need for me to write any more on her." So, obviously, there is a lot more that can be added to the article. Then, when I started thinking it would be a good idea to go tell a few Admins what I really thought of them, I realized I was time to log off for the night and go watch a few DVDs, including an excellent bit of Teruo Ishii pinky-violence and some entertaining U.S. drive-in fare from the '60s. I'll stay sober and do better work in the area today. :-) Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 15:21, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oooh-- quite a find here: http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~p-g/best10/1994.htm is a list of Pink awards for 1994, and it goes up to 2007. The article that linked me to it is http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~p-g/pinkfes/20pinkfes.htm (20th Pink Awards). (And Sakurako Kaoru is a winner/nominee for '08). Dekkappai (talk) 17:43, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Where do they come from? This particular one comes from Wikipedia:WikiProject Pornography, which is the only WikiProject I'm aware of whose main goal is to delete information on its subject... I've known for quite a while that they have set up a random 6-video limit for filmographies. Not only is this absurd for obvious reasons ("encyclopedic" means "comprehensive, thorough, complete..."), it's also in direct violation of Neutral Point of View and Original Research (who are we to say which 6 videos merit mention, and which are to be excluded?). It is most obviously a violation of Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(lists_of_works), which includes filmographies, and which explicitly states that complete lists are encouraged. (We might have to brace ourselves for a fight over this, so you might want to keep that link handy.) This is the group that set up the "major award" criterion for "notability", but they have constantly set up random criteria and then removed them... You may see some strange text at some articles because of this-- "Amazon shows so & so was in over 100 videos" (100 videos was an old gauge of "notability", now removed), "So & so has starred in videos using her name in the title" (another defunct criterion). And now we're left with awards... I'd never heard of those awards Maria Takagi won, but anyone who knows anything of Japanese entertainment knows Maria Takagi... so we have to prove she's "notable" to these guys with something that really has no relation to her true notability... Anyway-- I've started working on the "Pink Prize" article here-- it should be some help with Pink film subjects. Dekkappai (talk) 07:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good source

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. You may already be aware of this, since I see you added one of their articles to Nana Natsume, but the site http://www.walkerplus.com/ is giving me lots of information on that Pink Film award I'm working on, and I'm coming across good articles on Aoi Sora and some others. Probably a good site to keep for future reference. Dekkappai (talk) 00:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right, I was planning to look into the Kusanagi thing later. But if her official blog gives the other date, I'd go with that one. Also, Mariko Morikawa's birth year was changed. I've seen both '70 and '71, but never found a definitive source to settle the matter... Dekkappai (talk) 00:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Damsel in distress

edit

Hey-- good catch on that Sora Aoi section! (Yes, its non-restoration was accidantal.) I just noticed that someone has started an article on Mayu Kotono. (It's obviously copied from the stub I started on her at Boobpedia :-) It's been tagged as unreferenced, which is usually the first step in the deletion process (if it's done right, that is). She's a big name, I've seen her around a lot, so I'll try to add something to it later today. You might want to look around and see if you can come up with more sourcing and "notability" too... My work on Sakurako Kaoru got side-tracked by starting an article on that awards ceremony I saw she won (Pink Grand Prix- in progress here). But I think I'm getting near the point where that can be posted and I'll get back to work on her-- been doing the work at BP, and will copy it over here when ready. About that idea of splitting the AV & pink actresses on the "Japanese erotic cinema" template... it's really looking to be less of a good idea than I thought... reading through the Jasper Sharp book (Behind the Pink Curtain), I find a lot of early AV actresses came out of the pink world, and a lot of current pink actresses "graduate" up from the AV world (Sora Aoi for one). Also, directors work in both genres... Hard to say what to do, but I do have a feeling that the "Actresses" field is getting too large. Maybe separating by decade of debut would work? Dekkappai (talk) 19:46, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oooo... There's a new company, Pink Eiga, whose sole goal is to release pink films in the U.S. (I just linked a Variety article on it at the Pink Film article). Their company site has a list of bios in English here, including a nice one on Aoi Sora here. Hope it's helpful! Dekkappai (talk) 23:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Cherryblossom. Actually, outside of the "Ten best", more film title translation needs to be done, and there could be a lot written for the three or four later ceremonies which have coverage in separate articles, but the article was already so long with just the list, and I was anxious to start on Kaoru Sakurako, so I just posted it as is. I'm doing the work on Kaoru over at BP first (I like to give them first "rights" to articles on the busty subjects, partly because the filmographies are much better-developed there, we're free to include pictures in them and to even start stubs on each video...) Several names leap out from the awards list as really needing articles. One is Yumi Yoshiyuki-- she won several actress awards, and then went on to become an award-winning director and screenwriter... Dekkappai (talk) 22:22, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

CineMagic Co.

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. What do you think about that filmography at CineMagic Co.? I'm completely in favor of complete filmographies for performers and directors, especially in our field, in which there are no complete listings in English off-Wiki. But I imagine any one studio's complete filmography is going to run into the thousands, and this one appears to be just a random list. Maybe we should make it into a filmography of award-winning or otherwise "notable" (best-sellers of the year?) videos from the company? Do we know of some? Or maybe just link to off-wiki filmographies? Dekkappai (talk) 21:20, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that sounds best. I'm hesitant to delete other people's work too, but this list has been in place, unedited, for three years. If the editor were actively maintaining it, it would be another matter. Anyway, a link to the company's own filmography sounds best. If we come across any of their videos that stand out somehow, we can start a list of "notable" works later on. Dekkappai (talk) 21:46, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm...

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Great work, as usual, on the Hime Tsukino article. I was about to add her to the JEC template, but then the question arose-- where do we put these "new half" subjects? I see we've got Miki Mizuasa under "Actresses", but that's not really truth-in-advertising, is it?... Though "Actors" wouldn't be accurate either... If we get more such articles, they'd get their own listing, but for now with only two, I'm not sure where to list them... Dekkappai (talk) 14:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the input Cherryblossom. Yeah, I guess it's fine to put them under "Actresses" then, per your reasoning. If we get one more, I'd think three would be enough to qualify for a separate heading. Good luck on the next article. I'm still plugging away on Sakurako Kaoru, mostly at BP, but got bogged down in some Looney Toon DVD deletion controversy here. Trying to work on those 6 articles. After that, I shut my eyes to Deletion discussions. :-) Dekkappai (talk) 19:45, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Plans

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom-- The Looney Tunes shit-storm is behind me now, and I vow to keep my nose out of non-JEC-related subjects :-) I've been tinkering on Chesty Morgan-- might put that one through Good Article trial soon. I'll probably post whatever I've got done on Sakurako Kaoru pretty soon-- she turns out to be a pretty big subject with lots of coverage, so I'm sure much more can be added once the article is started... I'll call dibs on Ryoko Mitake for my next subject. Putting together sourcing on the actress/director Yumi Yoshiyuki, and a major AV/Pink star, Yumika Hayashi. These subjects are all so notable it might be worth it just to start stubs with proof of "notability" (awards) in place. Dekkappai (talk) 18:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks-- glad you enjoyed it. (I found it quite interesting work too-- she's quite a beauty :-) Yes, I was having some trouble distinguishing the pink and V-cinema releases too... I'd find them as DVD releases at the dmm.co.jp site, mark them as V-cinema, but then find out later they'd been released theatrically earlier... But this is the situation with regular films too-- the "release date" we see at a retailer will be for the DVD, while the film was released theatrically at an earlier date. dmm does help by marking the theatrical releases "成人映画" ("adult film" which is the general Japanese term for pink film), but they still give the DVD release-date, not the theatrical release date. I was able to get the theatrical releases from either the P*G site, moviewalker, allcinema, or some other film site. As far as I know, the classic definition of pink film-- low budget, independent, shot on 35mm film, theatrically released, about 60-70 min. in duration-- still applies. V-cinema is shot directly on tape/DVD. The only true V-cinema I've seen is Teruo Ishii's Blind Beast vs. Dwarf, and that's basically a low-budget film shot on video. There are exceptions that blur the genres... there was a straight AV that was released theatrically later (can't think of which one it was off-hand)... and Kei Mizutani's big film Weather Woman was released as V-cinema first, became such a hit that it was given an official theatrical release. Also, the very early AVs-- 1980s-- were (in my opinion) often just pink films shot on video. They had stories, sometimes interesting camera work, acting, etc. and would have a few sex scenes in them. I haven't heard any authority say this, but those early AVs looked like pink film shot on video tape to me. The AV didn't really evolve into a different genre until the early '90s (in my viewing experience/opinion, that is). Anyway, lots more can be done on Sakurako-- she's got quite an extensive pink film filmography that I haven't completed. But I'm going to leave her for a while to work on Ryoko Mitake and Yumika Hayashi for now. Looking forward to your next project. Dekkappai (talk) 02:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Saya Misaki

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Good research, but very sad news on Saya Misaki. (At least Yumika Hayashi apparently went out on a high note, with a big celebration before her own demise :( Her passing does mean that (for now anyway) a fair-use image is allowed, and I've put one up. (If you can track down a better one, please do.) I just did some searching to try to bolster her "notability" claim, and came across this which contains the sentence, "美咲沙耶ちゃん、4人連続生中出しよくガンバッタで賞、敢闘賞です。". Is this a reference to a real award, do you think? "敢闘賞"-- "Fighting Spirit Award"? If so, it will make a valuable addition to the article. Dekkappai (talk) 18:33, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I was beginning to suspect as much too. Just a fan/promotion-term... Right, I take a break from this subject now and then too-- do a little work in mainstream Japanese or Korean cinema, opera, classical music, whatever. I've been poking around for information to support the Cereal box prize article now. JAV will be here when you're ready to dive back in. Just be careful to avoid Wiki-battles. (My interest and experience with both Korea & Japan is particularly perilous. Hidden land mines everywhere. :-( Dekkappai (talk) 20:15, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey-- did you see who won Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards last night? Yōjirō Takita, director of such pink classics as Molester's Train: Underwear Inspection, Pink Physical Examination, Molester's Delivery Service, Molester's Tour Bus, etc... I wonder if he's the first pink director to get an Oscar? Dekkappai (talk) 00:38, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on getting An Nanba out today: Another fine article. That bit about the "Stupidest AV Awards" rings a bell. I think I saved an article on it from the now-deleted Mainichi archives, though it's probably the same one you cited, just saved at another site. Maybe it's just me, but let me know if you notice it too-- as you look around at other areas of Wikipedia, you might find that our own little, low-regarded corner of Wikipedia actually has higher quality standards than many of the more "respectable" ones... :) Dekkappai (talk) 23:11, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yep. And yet Japanese porn is probably at the top of the _target list for those who want to clean up Wikipedia... When I first came here, there was talk, even among those in favor of the subject, of basically wiping out the entire category as unnotable/unsourcable. Just shows what a little work can do :) Now we've got an Academy Award-winner with links to the genre, so I'm sticking his name in at the appropriate articles. Dekkappai (talk) 00:21, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, I'm glad there was something in all that ranting and raving that was beneficial to the article! Whew! I looked through that mess and it brought back a lot of bad memories-- including an encounter with the original anti-Japanese porn crusader whose efforts really got me working in this area in the first place :) Seems like I was fighting multiple AfDs weekly with him for a while a couple years ago... My work here has been side-tracked with some very interesting work at Boobpedia-- interviewing and writing a pure "original research" article on a gorgeous BBW model. I'll be back to Ryoko Mitake, Takita, Yoshiyuki & the rest soon though. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 04:05, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- Good work on Dogma! (Just a heads-up though: Might try to find more secondary sourcing-- i.e., coverage in news/magazines/web articles or other literature outside the company itself.) I just took a look at some of your dance edits too-- brings back a lot of good memories, Chretien de Troyes, estampie, jongleurs... ah, first semester of Music History... (I'm a music person too.) Take care, and keep up the good work! Dekkappai (talk) 21:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
The BBW interview/article? Yep, finished... Ah, parting is such sweet sorrow... (That was really fun work, by the way. Pure, unadulterated, Wiki-banned Original Research. And she's absolutely gorgeous! :) She's a US model, but I came across her because she'd appeared in one of the Japanese IZM studio's videos. But anyway... About the dead link-- I think they're allowed to stay as proof of "notability" and sourcing. There's a "dead link" template I've seen than you can put at the end. I don't know where it is now. Even better, possibly: An Admin pointed me to this site: http://www.webcitation.org/ I haven't had time to investigate it, but apparently you can submit links to them and they'll save the page. If this page is still available in Google cache, maybe you can give them that before it disappears. (Might be a good idea to start saving all our sourcing there, if it's easy to use.) Dekkappai (talk) 23:48, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

2009 AV GrandPrix

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom-- good work uncovering that. I was waiting for you to post the winners... I don't know whether to be happy or disappointed that we've already got articles started on most of the winners. (I was looking forward to starting new articles based on these.) One question: Your translation of "デカ尻" is Big Hip-- is that off an official English title? In my experience, Koreans and Japanese both tend to translate "尻" as "Hips" when it's really arse/ass/butt/tush/fanny/sit-upon..., I think... Anyway-- good work, as usual! Dekkappai (talk) 22:23, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right, that's what I thought... I tend to go with the translations provided on the cover or sales site too, though they can be pretty bizarre sometimes :) ... and I'll check out the video cover when I get home tonight. For, ahem, research purposes ;) Dekkappai (talk) 00:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I researched the デカ尻 cover last night, and concur with your assessment :) (though the featured 尻s appear to be really more "Close-up" than デカ...) Also, now I see Towa Mitsui has now appeared in an award-winner... That's an article I'd like to tackle, but she probably needs more "notability" than that to be safe from deletion. Hopefully Ryoko Mitake will be ready to post tonight, or soon. Dekkappai (talk) 22:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ryoko Mitake

edit

Thanks! Lots of plot-description filler in that one, but there are some interesting details from the interviews, and the awards of course. Feel free to add anything you've collected too. I'm going to try starting up some quick articles on a few of the newer pink films at the Pink Grand Prix article today. A new editor linked the films to a US site which is releasing these on DVD, and the links were removed as "non-notable"/"spam". Should be pretty easy to prove notability, since they're award-winners and have played at international film festivals. Also, starting these articles will help fill out the coverage of the newer pink films-- I tend to concentrate on the '60s and '70s. Dekkappai (talk) 19:10, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- only managed to get two of those pink film articles started today-- A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn and Tsumugi. Meanwhile, I notice a new AV-related article, Airi & meiri seems to be in a Deletionist's firing range. It was put up for Speedy Delete and Proposed Deletion. I removed the latter and put in a link to Japanese Wiki article, but expect an AfD trial before long. In preparation, I put together a list of their rankings at AV-channel's Cosplay channel HERE. They seem to do pretty good-- 8th place for the year of 2008. Two DVDs on the top-50 for several months. 2nd place one month... If you can find any more conclusive evidence of "notability" that would help. Dekkappai (talk) 03:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Twins

edit

Yep, there's the Article for Deletion tag on the article now-- what a surprise. Strange thing is, it's already closed as a "Speedy delete"-- in spite of the wide coverage they have in the Ja-Wiki article, and closed before anyone who may have interest/knowledge in the subject could have any input. Something more than a concern with "notability" is afoot here, I suspect... Unless the fanatics have finally reached the point where they have forgotten the aim (of Wikipedia) an are now redoubling their efforts... Dekkappai (talk) 14:04, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right-- the nominator is violating AfD policy by refusing to allow editors to work on it. I've saved it in my workspace HERE, so we can work on it while it's under the gun. Feel free to work on it there, unless the nominator's disruption is stopped. Dekkappai (talk) 23:29, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Cherryblossoms-- I advise avoiding that AfD. The nominator is getting away with all kinds of crap, for some reason-- "owning" the article, blanking contributions, defacing it with "concern" tags after the AfD has started. He's been harassing me with complaints to talk boards, and posted a bunch of crap at my talk page I just reverted. Anyway-- the AfD is looking like a kangaroo court, and all the drama-- possibly intentionally-- takes time away from constructive article work. I say we work on the article in my workspace as time allows. Then post it once it passes "notability". No rush that way, and less BS. Dekkappai (talk) 07:18, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Right-- Obviously this isn't going to be an easy article-- I'm not finding them in my usual sources (maybe we should try music sources? I'm not much on Japanese pop, so I don't know where to look). But I think there are plenty of signs that the "notability" :) is there. Anyway, I'll keep it in my userspace so we can chip in bit by bit whenever we find something. Eventually it'll pass the bar, and we can put it back up. Long-term project. Dekkappai (talk) 07:58, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ha-- I just looked at the article, and someone removed the entire music section because they couldn't find it at Amazon... even though the link was right there! Is it possible he couldn't read the Japanese Amazon page, so he ignored it, searched US Amazon, found nothing and concluded it was a hoax? Wow. It seems the less these people know about a subject, the more sure of themselves they are... Reminds me of the characterization of the Deletionists I read in a newspaper article a while ago-- "Self-important jack-asses." Anyway... I've been working on the article in my userspace today. HERE is a page full of links to pages at http://d.hatena.ne.jp/ I'm trying to dig through it for something useful-- is it all just blog stuff? Dekkappai (talk) 00:28, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh-- HERE is the main page of links which got me to that one. HERE I see what seems to be a semi-legitimate news entry... Dekkappai (talk) 00:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem. The Akiba cite was thrown out pretty fast as "blog"-- Hell the whole article was blanked within a minute of its posting-- that's some fast source-checking there! :) Looks like we're going to lose this one, anyway. It's obviously a kangaroo court to me-- the sources are being examined just for an excuse to remove them. It's being treated like a Feature Article discussion instead of a test of "notability". I'll keep the twins in my userspace anyway. Honestly, I'd never heard of them, but this guy's determination to delete the article without even considering the possibility that it can be kept gripes my ass. It would make me very happy to get it back up, with good sourcing, after it's been deleted. Might even be worth a trip to Tokyo to dig through some print sources :) Anyway, this is sapping time and energy from the ones we know already have the "notability" stamp of approval. Guess this just warns us again to make sure we have that in place before starting an article. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 20:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Have you noticed the "How to swat a fly with a sledgehammer" demonstration continues? Ah well, to each his own... I plan on getting Yumika's filmography in better shape today. Dekkappai (talk) 16:26, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right, they squeaked by, but the article's been stubbed, de-sourced, tagged for "Fact" (when the citations were removed), and still off-limits for editing-- an edit-war waiting to happen. Man, talk about overkill. The nominator even rushed off and tried to delete the Japanese article twice at one point.[2] If I'd thought the article was being given a fair trial, I could very well have voted differently... One of the more interesting collateral casualties of the discussion was the Dick Dastardly article. Out of the countless totally unsourced articles on US/English subjects, I picked that one to use as an example, and the nominator rushed off and tagged it "unsourced". I presume he's doing that to all the other countless totally unsourced English-subject articles now :) (I came across three in browsing just now...) Dekkappai (talk) 21:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Next step

edit

OK, after this minor fiasco, how about trying something more ennobling for our subject area? I was thinking of pushing one of the articles up to "Good Article" status. In my experience, GA isn't that bad. It just requires about a month of waiting for someone to pick the article for review, and then fixing minor stylistic things the reviewer points out. I got Takechi Tetsuji-- "Father of Japanese porn"-- there a while ago, but how about a real AV idol? I just glanced through them, and I think Yumika Hayashi probably has the best chance. Want to chip in on it? I put together what I could, but I'll try a thorough search over the next few weeks and try to find all I can on her. Also, we'll have review it all for prose style, structure, etc. At least it won't be wasted effort, like the thing with the Twins was... Dekkappai (talk) 02:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, yeah, you can spend a lot of time on words that are bizarrely twisted here, often to mean their exact real-word opposites... The one that used to get me so much at AfDs, when I first joined, was "Not encyclopedic, delete!" I finally just stopped pointing out that "encyclopedic" means "exhaustive, complete, thorough, all-inclusive..." Nobody wanted to hear it. In fact an editing-acquaintance of mine (well-known, top-notch, Feature Article editor, who is often blocked just for bluntly stating his mind instead of bowing down to Wiki's PC-like concept of "civility") started a whole page on it-- WP:WIKISPEAK. I chip in there whenever I come across some new Orwellianism. The twins inspired "puffery" :) Anyway-- Yes, "reliable sources" are what I had an eye out for, and Yumika seems to have the best in that area. Should be fun, interesting, and a benefit to our little lowly-regarded area of Wikipedia :) Dekkappai (talk) 13:27, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Couple of intriguing new titles there :) You know, if I'm understanding right, Yumika made about 200 AVs and appeared in 180 films... Even if it was "only" 200 AVs & films combined, if we're going to do anywhere near a complete filmography, it'll certainly have to go off to a separate article. We can pick out the major ones-- debuts, award-winners, festival-players, etc.-- for the "Partial filmography" on the main article though. Like with Sakurako Kaoru. Dekkappai (talk) 22:29, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Separate the careers within the article? Not sure. I like to do things chronologically, but sometimes staying strictly chronological gets messy too... Let's try chronological for now. If it starts looking more appropriate to separate the genres, then we can always do that later. As far as filmography, of course, separate the two... Might even want to separate the pink from the mainstream, because it looks like she might have done a lot of mainstream too. Did you see what just happened at Airi & Meiri? I asked a new Japanese editor-- he's working on pink films-- and he knew them right away, and found an MP3 interview. I can't listen to it to judge, and it'll probably be thrown out anyway ("Interviews are not independent of the subject"), but there it is anyway. Dekkappai (talk) 23:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh-- "link to copyvio" is how they removed it. See-- It's not enought that Wikipedia refuses to recognize "Fair use", now even other sites must adhere to Wiki-laws. What was it Santayana said about fanatics ;) Oh-- "Non-notable facts"-- that's another gem I've been coming across lately. Dekkappai (talk) 23:30, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Man, I hate it when I lose one of my long-winded rants... Fortunately, they seem to just gush forth from my keyboard around AfD season :) Anyway-- well put! Oh-- "un-encyclopedic facts" that's got a better, Orwellian ring to it than "non-notable facts" I'll recommend it next time I come across its usage. :) Better luck with other articles! Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 02:22, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes-- I noticed that TV Asahi obit-- good find! I'm putting together a more complete filmography, but I put her name in at the DMM site and came up with something like 450 title. Whew! Going to have to, at the very least, leave out the anthology/compilations. Dekkappai (talk) 22:43, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh-- I found what looks like a fairly mainstream film appearance by Nao Oikawa. Preliminary searches only found it at the Asian Cult Cinema site, but there must be more... ah, "notable?"... listings somewhere. Here it is: User:Dekkappai/Temp4#Nao_Oikawa. Dekkappai (talk) 22:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
By the way, to repeat, and so we don't duplicate each other's work-- I'm putting together a more complete filmography for Yumika. Dekkappai (talk) 19:57, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yumika

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Walkerplus has quite a bit on Yumika Hayashi, and I've been told from a reliable source that it's a "reliable" source. :) HERE is a good posthumous article, with a full profile, etc. We should definitely take any biographical details from the most "reliable" of sources... Her birthname especially-- the source I've got is probably not up to par (online idol database)-- but it's all over the web, so there must be a good source somewhere. Certainly that biographical book of her should have it, but I don't have access to it... Dekkappai (talk) 16:34, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- I just came across a few useful articles (added one to Yuri Komuro, and made a note of one on Inoue Anri-- she started her own political party in 1994). Here's an intriguing one though, which I can't view:

  • Japanese porn star strips at Presidential Office
  • China News. Taipei: Jul 31, 1998. pg. 1
Indexing (document details)
Publication title: China News. Taipei: Jul 31, 1998. pg. 1
Source type: Newspaper
ProQuest document ID: 32483875
Text Word Count 162

If you've got access to it, or if we can track it down later, it might help-- several big-name stars went to Taipei. We've got articles on at least two of them. Who knows-- stripping for the president might even pass as a sign of "notability". Dekkappai (talk) 17:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Note: It looks like the Taiwan visits we have reported are Ai Iijima (2001), Madoka Ozawa (2002), and Jun Kusanagi (2003). Dekkappai (talk) 21:55, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good to see you back. I'm busy catching up over at BP today, and haven't done much on the Yumika Hayashi article lately. I came across what seems to be a good source-- you've used it in several articles, so you're probably already aware of it: http://allabout.co.jp/entertainment/adultvideo/ Dekkappai (talk) 20:45, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. Good work, as usual, on the Kuki article! I just mentioned you over at User_talk:Makitomoda#Kyoko_Kashii. Whether you want to try to help out on an article on this actress is up to you-- I'll look around. My enthusiasm for Wikipedia has been on the wane for the past week or so, and my enthusiasm for BP on the rise, so I've been doing most of my work over there lately :) The recurring drama over at Airi & Meiri is indicative of the nonsense that is tolerated here that just drains my enthusiasm... recently an anonymous editor deleted all mention of their adult entertainment careers as "inappropriate", and replaced it with a lot of unsourced personal knowledge. That unsourced personal knowledge was quickly deleted, of course. But, significantly, the anonymous editor's removal of sourced information was kept in place... leaving about one sentence, I think... I added what work I've done on it since the last AfD (another one has started), and a "puffery" tag was slapped on it pretty quick. I expect all the new work to be deleted soon, leaving the "puffery" tag hanging over a one-sentence article, which is about the state the article was in after the last AfD melee... Seems like the larger a project gets, the smaller the mindset becomes. BP's just the right size for now :) Dekkappai (talk) 17:43, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi-- Well, this downturn in enthusiasm for WP-work is due less to disillusionment here-- I've grown used to that-- and more to a new obsession over at BP: The monumental, yet "non-notable" Nanao Mitsumi. I'm using BP to find out everything I possibly can about her, and to share that information with BP's readers... Before I knew about the "notability" game, I'd thought that Wikipedia was a place one could do that. :( What makes working at BP so interesting is that we're free to delve as deeply into the subject as we want-- though, of course, proper sourcing is always wanted. I've started category/articles on individual AV directors, labels, studios, etc. The filmographies link to articles on each individual video, illustrated with video covers (mostly just stubs for now)... So, I'm sure I'll be back here fulltime once I've satisfied my urge to cover this particular topic to the full extent she deserves... or the next topic after Mitsumi-chan... or the one after that... :) Dekkappai (talk) 21:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom-- just came across some articles: this one on Shigeo Tokuda (I've added it to the article), this one on hamedori Rio Yasuda, this one, this on Maria Yumeno, and this on Ganari Takahashi. Hope you can find them useful! Dekkappai (talk) 04:17, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Heh. The twins have just survived another assault. Unlike the last "No consensus", this one was a firm "Keep". Take a look at how I imagine the nominator and his yes-men confidently sailing into AfD #3: File:Geewhizz-batman.jpg :) 04:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Right... I noticed the new article on Takahashi and wasn't sure where to put it myself... I guess "Related articles" is the only one where he fits right now... until we get enough miscellaneous articles to start an "Other" heading... Dekkappai (talk) 19:17, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yutaka Ikejima

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. They just posted the results of the Pink Grand Prix for 2008 (I don't think the ceremonies have been held yet), so I've added that. Maki Tomoda got Best New Actress-- hers was an endangered article just a while ago. Also, another editor started an article on Asami, and-- fortunately-- she's a winner this year also. But the name that strikes me at this year's awards is Yutaka Ikejima. He's been an actor, and now a prolific, and multi-award-winning director. Apparently he started directing in the AV. In their section on Hard Lesbian: Genuine Tongue Technique (a 1992 Ikejima film), my Weisser book (published 1998) says: "Yutaka Ikejima joined Shuji Terayama's stage theater as an actor in the late '70s. He eventually moved to motion pictures, premiering in Genji Nakamura's Semi Documentary: Housewife Prostitution Team (1981). During the next seven years, Ikejima appeared in more than 500 pink films, before turning his talents to directing in 1988. Initially, he concentrated on AVs {Adult Videos}. His theatrical debut came in 1991 with The Masturbating Lesbian {The Onanie Les). Ikejima is married to Kyoko Godai (Hisayasu Sato's notorious scripter; see spotlight section Four Kings Of Pink, page 463) who also writes most of his films. Many pinku eiga fans insist he will be the genre's next big director. Traditionally, lesbian movies are "dishonest projects" made for a leering male audiences, men who enjoy seeing "two naked female bodies for the price of one." However, Ikejima's lez films break the stereotype. He (and scriptwriting wife, Godai) are more interested in character portrayals..." Anyway, sounds like a good subject for an article eventually :) Dekkappai (talk) 01:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey-- our friends at PinkEiga have a biography on him too,[3] and I browsed through the Jasper Sharp Behind the Pink Curtain book and saw a lot. I think I'll go so far as to call dibs on him :) Dekkappai (talk) 19:58, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Another award?

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Can you make out what this is all about?[4] If it's Million Academy Awards, as in the Million studio-- they're a longtime major studio in the pink film... I came across it in looking for more information on Runa Akasaka, so if you can make out her part in it, it might be worth adding to the article. Dekkappai (talk) 21:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah yes, Murasaki is there too... Yes, this could be the answer to the "Million Madam" puzzle. I wouldn't be surprised if Million, the pink company, has an AV department. In fact my Behind the Pink Curtain book probably has some details on the company-- website, etc. I'll research the question this weekend too. Dekkappai (talk) 23:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Right, I didn't come up with much either. Looks to me like more of a contest/choosing of campaign models, which is an "award" of sorts, I guess. My guess that that this had something to do the the Million studio was completely wrong, of course-- it's just a label of KMP. Jasper Sharp reports that the Million studio was not one of the major pink studios, but one of the more prominent minor ones. For some reason I used to see their name everywhere though... Please Stop

You lack the knowledge on Japanese AV to write what you do in articles, please stop creating and editing articles from your own point of view, especially when you appear to lack Japanese language skills. 中村ヒトミ (talk) 22:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

If I might butt in. Cherryblossom cites his sources. If those sources are in error, please feel free to provide correct ones. Dekkappai (talk) 23:10, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't claim expertise in JAV or fluency in Japanese or infalliblity but I object to vague unsupported statements about POV. All the material in the articles is supported by in-line citations. Hey-- you beat me to starting a video article! Congratulations! I just added an infobox & DVD cover. We'll see how long it lasts :) Dekkappai (talk) 01:23, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom-- Just in case you're wondering, I've been working on mainstream award-winning Korean and Japanese films that either don't have articles, or lack poster, sourcing, etc. But don't worry that I've gone "legit". All this is to gather experience in preparation for eventually blue-linking the award-winners at the Pink Grand Prix ;-) Dekkappai (talk) 01:20, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I WAS wondering :) Thanks for noticing-- My preliminary goal is to start stubs on all the "Best Films" of the year. Get a good overview of the best put out in the genre, and then expand the newer sections of the Pink film article... which will help with articles on the performers and directors... which in turn helps with articles on those performers who also worked in AV... and on & on. Anyway, good to hear from you! Dekkappai (talk) 18:37, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
All the "Best Films" at the Pink Grand Prix now have articles started... and I'm looking around for another project to start-- or maybe I'll get back to one of the unfinished ones. Dekkappai (talk) 20:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes-- Perhaps more surprising than the fact that they exist is that you'll see the ENK studio (all-gay, I believe) listed all over the Pink Grand Prix. (Only one has made it to the #1 spot.) Hisayasu Satō is pretty well-known for making gay pink films... An idea occurs to me now-- I'll start articles on the "Best Directors". That way I'll get Yumi Yoshiyuki and Yutaka Ikejima started (long-planned projects), as well as start several prominent directors who don't have articles yet. I like the succession boxes that this approach creates, as in the Best Film articles. Dekkappai (talk) 21:25, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Akiho Yoshizawa‎

edit

Another fine job! Notice all the links we have to add after starting an article these days? Just shows that we're building quite an infrastructure on the subject. I've spent the last week or so downloading a treasure-trove of Nikkatsu Roman Porno posters, so that will help a lot with starting articles on the more significant output from that series. Keep up the great work! Dekkappai (talk) 22:53, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right-- I wouldn't be surprised at all if Maria Ozawa and some of the other English-speaking subjects follow their articles. Even over at the much lower-profile Boobpedia we sometimes get responses from some of our subjects. Mostly helpful, but sometimes requests that we take down pictures/info. So it's certainly possible that Ozawa noticed your contribution and had second thoughts about publicizing it... It would be nice if she'd chip in with some good sourcing though :) Dekkappai (talk) 22:57, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Emi Kuroda

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. I just came across the article on Emi Kuroda, which is pretty skimpy and probably in danger of deletion. She's the star of The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai, probably one of the most high-profile pink films ever made, so I think her "notability" is assured. I'll try to do some work on the article today, but maybe you could look around and see if you can find anything on her also? Dekkappai (talk) 18:51, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! We should start a "Japanese Porn Rescue Squadron" project :) Dekkappai (talk) 00:46, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sakura Sena‎

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom-- looks like we have another rescue operation. Sakura Sena's article was just mass de-sourced and a lot of info removed. I restored that, removed some of the more obviously personal opinion/unsourced material, and tagged for facts for others. I think she's mainly known for her U.S. industry work, so she's not really one who interests me much. I'm still working on the Pink Grand Prix project (finished the last Best Director article last night, starting on the Silver Prize-winning films), and also trying to start articles for the legendary Korean Aema buin series. It would be nice to be able to get a good representation of Korean erotic entertainment articles. Based on my "Original Research" of living there nearly 20 years ago they've got plenty, and it's similar to the Japanese pink industry, but they keep it hidden and low-profile, so it's much harder to source than Japanese... which is tough enough as it is... Dekkappai (talk) 22:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks-- Hey, if you're doing Crystal Eizou, be sure to put in the Toru Muranishi / Kaoru Kuroki connection-- Two of the major early AV actress/ directors. After working together at Crystal, they started Diamond Eizou, which is the label Kimiko Matsuzaka appeared on almost exclusively (one of my personal favorites :) Muranishi definitely deserves an article too-- a major, innovative AV actor/director. Dekkappai (talk) 00:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom-- You might want to look in on Secret Plot, a hentai-manga up for deletion. Another editor pointed me to it on my talkpage, and I couldn't find much. I don't know anything at all about the genre though. Dekkappai (talk) 02:54, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind. It's been zapped. Dekkappai (talk) 21:02, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mihiro

edit

Nice expanding there! I've often wondered how many of these little articles get started and deleted before anyone with any serious interest in editing the article gets to look at it. I just "expanded" two Korean films from the '70s up to barely-passable stub status, and, even as a guy with interest in the subject, thought I was just propping up a couple of "non-notable" low-radar films nobody had heard of. I casually mentioned them to my wife, and she perks up, "Oh yes, they were very popular when I was a teenager." She goes on to tell me the plot and the star names from memory... Just hits home how biased-- culturally and otherwise-- this "notability" requirement is here... Anyway-- Following your lead, I'm looking into maybe starting a couple articles on the major pink companies. Kokuei, Shintōhō (not to be confused with the original Shintōhō), etc. Also, I'll go through my old pink actress & director articles for updates and new info on the subjects I've found in the Jasper Sharp book. More awards

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. I just came across THE PINKY RIBBON AWARDS, linked from the P*G news page as the official site of the award. I'll work through it later, but, at first glance, it looks like a lot of the winners are similar to the Pink Grand Prix... might be something to boost up the "notability" of one or two of our existing AV actresses though. I'm coming across some intriguing but frustrating news on the pink film awards. The name pink film comes from a comment by a journalist that the eroduction should have a "Pink Ribbon" award, an equivalent to the "Blue Ribbon". The magazine Seijin Eiga was the main journal covering the eroduction / pink film in the early days, and gave out "Pink Ribbon" awards from about 1965 to 1973, when it folded. ZOOM-UP magazine took over as the leading journal on the pink film and gave out the ZOOM UP awards we find hints of, from 1980 to 1994. The current Pink Grand Prix is hosted by P*G magazine, which filled in after ZOOM-UP stopped in 1994... The only one I've found complete data on so far is the Grand Prix... But if I can ever track down the Seijin Eiga and Zoom Up awards, that would cover just about the entire history of the pink film except for the '70s, when Nikkatsu basically ruled the genre. Dekkappai (talk) 18:11, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Naoyuki Tomomatsu

edit

Hi-- Sure, feel free to poach away in the realm of pink. Writing on AV gets to be pretty repetitive-- not to denigrate the AV. But Pink film is where the real creativity and-- sometimes-- artistry comes into play.

Neither of my two main print sources have any info on Tomomatsu, so I didn't have anything immediate to add. One thing I notice though-- you have his first screenplay as "Toho's pink film The Pregnant Woman (新東宝)"... A few problems with this... 新東宝 is "Shintoho", the studio(s), not a movie title, and Toho-- as far as I am aware-- never went into the pink genre. Also, the source has the title of his first film screenplay as "夏色浪漫" (lit. Summer, color, and... it's too early in the morning to do any translating... :)

Sure, gore and blood is a ripe subject for work also, and lots of tie-ins to pink/sexploitation. I've dabbled in it myself occasionally... One thing I've really wanted to write about, but no "reliable sources" have written much on it-- is the influence back & forth between U.S. and Japanese exploitation. The U.S. were making "nudie-cuties" and "roughies" before the Japanese really got into that sort of thing. I've got Japanese posters of some early U.S. sex & violence films-- Scum of the Earth!-era-- so they must have been shown over there. Also I know from memory that there was a market for the wilder Japanese films here in the U.S. "grindhouse" circuit, even in the '60s and early '70s... It's just that there's not much record of it... Funny thing is, the Japanese get "blamed" for the depravity of their sex & violent entertainment, but they were influenced-- I think-- by the U.S. sleaze-meisters of the late '50s and early '60s... Then, on a side-note, when the Korean pop culture show some similarity to "Koreanized" version of Japanese pop-culture, the Japanese scream "theft!". But actually, those two cultures are so close that they're bound to have similar pop cultures. And the majority of Japanese pop-culture trends originally started as "theft" in one form or another from the U.S. or Europe which were then "Japanized"... but I digress... :)

One more digression for potential work: It never fails to amaze me how terrible the Godzilla/Gamera/tokusatsu area is here. There's a lot of writing, but it's all completely unsourced, fan-ish trivia... So much writing and improving that still needs to be done, and yet some people spend all their time here just looking for things to delete... go figure. Dekkappai (talk) 14:35, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- I've been out of town for a few days, so I'll try to get back into WP work in the next couple days. I noticed Meisa Hanai was prodded just now, next step is AfD usually. I'd wanted to start articles on some of the early pink subjects-- Koji Seki and Kan/Hiroshi Mukai, and some Koji Wakamatsu films in particular-- but we might want to concentrate on Meisa Hanai for a little while now. Dekkappai (talk) 03:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I couldn't find much on Hanai either, though I've seen her name around quite a bit... Riria Yoshikawa was just prodded also, and I see that she's starred in at least one pink film, for a significant director-- Sachi Hamano. That would pass any real-world definition of "notable", but who knows how it will go over here :( Dekkappai (talk) 06:11, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom-- I forget, did you say you had Company Matsuo in mind for an article? If so, here is an English interview with him, which also has a lot of good info on AV... He mentions making several early AVs with Yumika Hayashi, but I don't seem to have them in her filmography... Dekkappai (talk) 19:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I know what you mean by getting distracted... I've been planning on improving Yumika's article for a while, but followed her to reading a bit about a Japanese/Korean director who's just made a documentary on her, and then on to Company Matsuo... and then all the way back to Koji Seki, whom I hope to at least start today... an interesting very early Pink director who started out filming children's nature documentaries, was hired to film Kokuei's first pink films-- "Female Tarzan" films-- and inadvertently gave the genre its name, and directed sex films until 1985... Dekkappai (talk)

Good work

I want to complement you on your work on Japanese AV idols. Two suggestions: I would love to see a page on Natsuko Tohno and when possible, it would be interesting to know more about what these models do after they retire. I know this info is not always available. Thanks Lattefever (talk) 20:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)LattefeverReply

Filmographies

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. I haven't been doing much filmography work lately, but just did one for Kan Mukai-- I'd forgotten what hard-- and generally unappreciated-- work these things are. So, I appreciate the good job you've been doing on them! I had a look at what another editor is doing in this field: Takeo Kimura filmography. I like the overall look of this filmography better than ours. Our table lines look pretty clunky in comparison. I do like our practice of putting the title English/Japanese/romanized on top of each other in one column better, so it doesn't take up most of the width of the page. The coding for the format looks a bit involved, but I'll experiment with it later and see if I can get it to work on some of my existing filmographies. You might want to consider it too... or not... Dekkappai (talk) 18:47, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks-- Right, you might want to consider trying for more DYKs too. Doesn't require much effort, and it doesn't hurt to get a few feathers in the cap of our little mini-project... on the other hand, sometimes I think it's safer to keep a low profile :) Dekkappai (talk) 20:10, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Cherryblossom. I've given the new format a trial run HERE. It wasn't too tricky to figure out... I might move some of the other filmographies over to that style later on. Dekkappai (talk) 20:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks-- yes, adding new films will be the only issue with this format, but I don't think that will be much trouble. Just copy the filmography below the new addition into Notepad, replace one color with a "Dummy", replace the other with the correct color, then replace the "Dummy" with the other correct color, then past that back below the new entry. Shouldn't be too much trouble. About Kazuhiko Matsumoto, This version of the JEC template (before I started working on it) already has him as a writer... perhaps a misunderstanding by the creator of the template-- he was more a "template" guy than a "JEC" guy, I think. So, I'll move him. Dekkappai (talk) 22:01, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kyōko Kazama

edit

Thanks, nice to be noticed. Unfortunately, I missed making it the 3-millionth article by just a few hours. Doing the whole filmography properly is what really takes time with these articles-- and I only did her pink films completely. Her AV filmography will have to wait for another day... You have a DYK in the wings too? That's good news. I'd like to put Kyōko there, but can't see anything interesting enough for a good "hook". Megumi Makihara is in the works. I'm going to try to get articles for the Best Actresses at the Pink Grand Prix out as quick as I can. (There's a nutcase on a "crusade" to wipe out porn bios, see: [5] So that's spurred me on to start up as many new ones as I can-- though, so far, he's been pretty much all talk and little "do"-- I've seen allegedly "pro-porn" people delete more...) Dekkappai (talk) 23:59, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh-- about her two birthdays. I got the impression the older one was correct, and that the younger one was "faked" to make it look like she was just 18 at the time of her AV debut. Her pink films seem to lean towards the jukujo genre, so the older (or, correct?) one is used... Dekkappai (talk) 00:07, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. You might be interested in this: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Futanari (2nd nomination). It's outside my areas of knowledge & interest, so I'll leave it alone. Dekkappai (talk) 00:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I know what you mean. Sometimes I'll just add a few sources to an article like that-- An article up for deletion which I know is "notable", but have no particular interest in editing. Then some deletionist will remove them, claiming sources are not "sources" unless they're cited in the article. :) But it looks like the discussion is leaning "Keep"... Ah well, work on the Pink Grand Prix Best Actress articles continues... Motoko Sasaki is up next, and I just found a good article/interview with her: [6] Dekkappai (talk) 18:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations! Fine work on Tohjiro. Should be a "DYK" hook in there somewhere :) Dekkappai (talk) 23:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Cherryblossom-- actually, I came across a few other articles on Sachi Hamano a couple years ago, when I first started working on the JEC articles here... haven't been able to track all of them down since starting the article... This one will help though. Her film Lily Festival is obviously worthy of an article too... Jasper Sharp (in his Behind the Pink Curtain) has writes some interesting things on Hamano, and doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of her. He says that despite her claims of making films from a woman's perspective, her films are "ruder and cruder" than many of the guys' films :) I've been coming across several female directors-- besides the three you mention, there's Yumi Yoshiyuki, who Sharp claims bring a more noticeable "woman's perspective" to her work. She's been given top awards as an actress, director and screenwriter. (And she often works with Sakurako Kaoru, putting her near the top of my list of directors whose works I'd like to see :) Sharp actually has a whole chapter called "Boys and Girls Come Out to Play" which shows that the sexual dynamics in the Japanese erotic cinema are more complex than the standard, male-dominated cliche. Besides women behind the camera, it covers women as audience, the gay cinema... even Seijin Eiga, the first journal on the eroduction / pink film, which ran from 1965-1973, was published by a woman-- Nobuko Kawashima... Anyway, women-behind-the-camera is an interesting topic, and I'll look for more on it and let you know what I find... Yeah-- my "fanatic" crack was in reference to Santayana's definition--"redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim", which I never fully understood until I took up writing here as a hobby... :) Dekkappai (talk) 10:21, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yui Koike

edit

Hi Cherryblossom. I did a quick search through my usual sources on Yui Koike, and found: JMDB, and AV actress database. Not too promising so far, but I'll keep looking around. Dekkappai (talk) 22:19, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey-- happy reading! Yeah, my wife tut-tuts me over that cover all the time whenever I'm looking through it for a kernel of sourcing. That's the lovely Naomi Tani by the way-- dream girl of my mis-spent youth. The DVD to Wife to be Sacrificed has an interview with her from 2000, and she has retained her power to entrance ;) Dekkappai (talk) 22:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- you've got input at the DYK page about Tohjiro. I'm still waiting for a reaction to my own Motoko Sasaki. Meanwhile, I'm starting up work on this sleeping giant of notable JEC film articles.... Dekkappai (talk) 07:54, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Tohjiro

edit
On September 1, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tohjiro, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Congratulations on the new DYK. Somehow Motoko Sasaki beat Tohjiro to the front page, but I never saw the article there... I don't know where it went... Digging through that list of Roman Porno's, I've just discovered that Kinema Junpo selected at least five of them as among the 100 best Japanese films of the twentieth century. Now let's see someone tag one of THOSE articles for "Notability" :) Dekkappai (talk) 23:27, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. You may have noticed a new crop of Roman porno film articles-- that's how I've been keeping myself busy. Thought you might want to know there was a minor flare-up over at Airi & Meiri in which your name was part of the conversation. (Funny thing is, if the guy had just edited without taking a swipe at the two of us, I'd have just left it alone :) Dekkappai (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I've been meaning to check out Machine Girl... gallons of fake blood and all :)... I guess our work divides people on how they look at the "appropriateness" of this sort of information. I've just met a Japanese editor (User talk:Kmrt) who has been very helpful and encouraging about my work in this particular area. On the other hand, the "Nothing here but cherry blossoms and tea ceremony!" crowd, naturally, will be uncomfortable with our area of work, no matter how well it's done ;) Dekkappai (talk) 18:18, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's what I meant. It was early morning here when I posted it, and I had cut & pasted that sentence from the other article. Thanks for catching it! Dekkappai (talk) 17:31, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hotaru Hazuki filmography

edit

Hi, thanks, Cherryblossom. I'm putting together a few complete pink-personnel filmographies. I've found that just the couple that I already have up are a great help in identifying posters/films when I come across them off-Wiki. I paste the Japanese text into the search box, and up pops director, romaji & some other info... Hitomi Shiraishi rings a bell... came out around the Kimiko Matsuzaka era, didn't she? 1989/1990? I'll dig around in my archives & see if I have anything to help out. Dekkappai (talk) 18:12, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

By the way-- I did check my print sources for Hitomi Shiraishi, but found nothing. I think I had her confused with Momoko Shiraishi, a buxom lass from that era :-) Dekkappai (talk) 17:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
You do have this bio, don't you: http://xxx.xcity.jp/SHIN-TOHO/HISTORY/H_SHIRAISHI/index.html Dekkappai (talk) 18:03, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks-- Nice work on the Hitomi Shiraishi article too. Right, that was a mistake in the headers. I'm finding these filmographies to be a real help with work in the pink films. These days if I paste a pink film title in Japanese into the Wiki search box, I stand a good chance of finding some info on it here, in one of the filmographies... But I'm thinking about changing pace again. Maybe one or two more filmographies, then I'll go back to writing something... maybe back to the Nikkatsu films... or doing more work on the Pink Grand Prix winners... Sure would be nice to find complete listings of those other Pink awards too-- the ones before 1994... Dekkappai (talk) 06:17, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kyōko Aizome

edit

Hi Cherryblossom. I notice you're working on Kyōko Aizome. She certainly deserves a full filmography-- are you planning on filling out the whole thing through JMDB, JCDB, and P*G? If not, let me know when you're done, and I'll get to work on it. Actually, she probably deserves, and could support, a "Good Article", except that there are a couple controversial things in her biography which are sourced to Japanese news sources which have since been removed from the Internet... I'm working on Yumi Yoshiyuki's filmography now, but it's going slow. I'm getting a wandering eye, looking for some other type of article to work on :-) Dekkappai (talk) 20:33, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, yes-- Yoyogi's name rang a bell when I saw it at her filmography... I'll check later, I might have something on him, and I'll point you to it if I do. I haven't started any work on an article on him though... I'll look in on Aizome after you've finished up your work, to see if I can add anything. Actually, several of these articles could use another going-through in light of the Sharp book... Dekkappai (talk) 21:03, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Didn't find much in my collection on Yoyogi, just a couple mentions in the Weisser book:
"MASTURBATION: CLIMAX (1983)
"[Onanie: The Climax]
"director: Tadashi Yoyogi
"Yuko Taki • Kaoru Noguchi
"Joy Pack Film
"*
"But can it really be called a movie? Intended as a sequel to Orgasm Documentary (earlier 1983), this one is also directed by Tadashi Yoyogi {Joy Pack's only staff filmmaker}. It depicts different masturbation techniques by a variety of pretty women. A model, a prostitute, a TV personality, and a new-half (a Japanese slang word for a transsexual) all stroke the pearl for the camera." Weisser, Thomas (1998). Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films. Miami: Vital Books : Asian Cult Cinema Publications. p. 268. ISBN 1-88928-852-7. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)
"ORGASM DOCUMENTARY (1983)
"[The Document: Orgasms]
"director: Tadashi Yoyogi
"Mami Fujii • Keiko Tanaka
"Joy Pack Film
"*
"Influenced by the success of Genji Nishimura's Bathhouse Documentary: Golden Lips (earlier in 1983), this one attempts to explain how a woman (Keiko Tanaka) can achieve the greatest orgasm through the joys of S&M. Tadashi Yoyogi's handheld camera follows her moment by moment as the trainer beats the girl into submission, and seemingly, orgasmic delight.
"Director Yoyogi improved his lot in life - ever so slightly - with his next venture Kyoko Aizome's Somber Reminiscence (1983). But he was back in the cesspool with Masturbation: The Climax (also 1983). There must to be a better way to make a living." Weisser, Thomas (1998). Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films. Miami: Vital Books : Asian Cult Cinema Publications. p. 303. ISBN 1-88928-852-7. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)
and a couple online mentions:
"Though pink eiga was overshadowed by Roman Porno, a new generation of directors such as Nakamura Genji, Takahashi Banmei, Yoyogi Tadashi, Izutsu Kazuyuki and Izumi Seiji came to the fore to give the genre a new thrust. They quickly established themselves next to veterans like Yamamoto Shunya, Mukai Kan and Kobayashi Satoru." Domenig, Roland (2002). "Vital flesh: the mysterious world of Pink Eiga". Archived from the original on 2004-11-18. Retrieved 2007-02-19.
"The first director who took full advantage of these new possibilities was former pink director Tadashi Yoyogi. With his Onanie video series (early 1980s) he almost single-handedly introduced to AV the essential elements that shape most of its productions today: the documentary-style exploration of the hidden sex life of Japan by employing real sex and non-professional performers.
"Onanie became a surprise hit and attracted the attention of a new group of investors who had so far been rarely attracted to film. The publishers of ura-bon (illegal underground sex books) and bini-bon (vinyl-wrapped porn books) thought that they had just discovered a gold mine and went right into the business, forming their own AV production companies." Schönherr, Johannes (December 29, 2006). "Japanese AV - A Short Introduction". Midnight Eye. Retrieved 2007-05-29. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |date= (help); External link in |work= (help)
That's just from searching what I've already got here, I haven't searched the Internet or other sources for Yoyogi specifically. Good luck! Dekkappai (talk) 02:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Checking in, & discussion

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. I hope your Wiki-break is treating you well. If you're checking in at all, and have time to offer some input, there are a couple points of controversy at Talk:Bukkake you might have something to say about. Best wishes. Dekkappai (talk) 18:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great to hear you'll be back-- Damned real life always interfering with the important stuff ;) There have been the usual dramatic episodes around here-- I managed to even get myself blocked during one of them-- but all in all, still plugging away on this ever-fascinating subject... My latest insanely-ambitious project has been cataloguing the output of the major pink film studios, so that I can arrange/catalogue my poster collection, and then pick out the "notable" films from the lists for articles. Here's Shintoho, in progress, here's Xces, first stage done... I noticed I'd been repeating translating work in a lot of the actor/director filmographies, so these lists-- even if they don't develop into actual articles-- will serve as information warehouses, for keeping the standard translations/transliterations/cast lists. The AV articles have been pretty stable in your absence-- no deletions I'm aware of, but no additions either. Glad to see you back, and looking forward to new projects!
PS. Oh-- the bukkake discussion. Two points: 1) the article says: "Various sources state that bukkake originated in ancient Japan, where unfaithful women were publicly humiliated by being tied up as every man in town ejaculated onto her face." Some of us doubt this. and 2) the article says it is "a sexual practice that features a person, usually a woman, being ejaculated on by several men" and "often though not always involves the implied or overt humiliation of the woman involved". In my observations, this is a biased description. I think this is sometimes the way bukkake is handled, but much more often (in my observation) it's one-on-one, non-humiliating. But feel perfectly free to disagree, as I don't follow this genre at all, so I'm just talking from my chance sightings, and what little I've looked around just for this discussion. JEC template

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Nice work on the Glory Quest article... Is it just me, or is that JEC template getting rather unwieldy? I've had in the back of my mind chopping it up into mini-template-- one for films (organized by decade/year maybe?, one for personnel-- maybe the actresses having their own, one for filmographies, studios, and so on... what do you think? Wouldn't be something I'll do right away, as I've just discovered a treasure trove of pink film posters from the '60s, and am busy cataloging/organizing them and cleaning off the website watermarks. One film that may get started soon now, thanks to this poster horde, is Perverted Criminal, Kōji Seki's 1967 3D film, the first 3D sexploitation film in the world, apparently. Do I hear "Did you know?" calling? :-) Dekkappai (talk) 01:57, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's too bad about the AV awards dropping off-- look around though, there are probably going to be new ones springing up to take their place... I see the Pink Grand Prix is still going strong. I'm just about to call it a night, and I see the list of this year's winners has just been announced HERE. Asami Sugiura got Best Actress, which will help her "Notability"... Best New Actresses-- かすみ果穂 and 真咲南朋. Couple new articles in the wings there :-) Among the actors I see a couple names that have popped up in many cast listings through the years: 野上正義 and なかみつせいじ. Top films are directed by the usual suspects, and a new name or two: Yoshikazu Katō, Yumi Yoshiyuki, Yutaka Ikejima, Naoyuki Tomomatsu films took 2nd & 3rd... Anyway, there's some more fun work to be done now :-) Dekkappai (talk) 07:08, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nice job on Kaede Matsushima. I've got a so-so poster image of Delivery Health Girl: The Moisture of Silken Skin, so she'll be linked at a film article soon ;). I don't know if you noticed, but last night I put together a series of yearly templates for the Pink Grand Prix (Template:Pink Grand Prix: 2007 for example). I think the size of the JEC template has definitely become a problem, and I'm wondering how we can address that... Perhaps taking the Pink Grand Prix-winning films off that, since they're in the PGP templates now?... That's probably not a very good idea though, since it'll have non-PGP films and PGP in separate areas, so, more difficult to locate... There's supposedly been a "consensus" decision that actors should not be on templates (don't ask me the reasoning behind, I don't want to know it myself :( so eventually someone will probably insist the actors & actresses come off... Not sure how we'll organize/link them after that, other than stand-alone lists & categories... Anyway, I'm thinking about it, and open to suggestions... For now, I've got so many projects on my plate I'm having difficulty doing anything because first I have to decide which to work on (start articles on the other PGP films & personnel, start articles on the Pink Film studios, start articles on the early pink films for which I've just found poster images, start articles on the under-represented '80s and early '90s ultra-violent pink (which I recently found poster for, but which I don't care for, personally)...) Anyway, I'll probably focus on Naomi Tani films for a while-- she's the grand dame who introduced me to the charms of JEC way back in my youth :-) Dekkappai (talk) 23:02, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I think it's the pink film articles that push the template beyond the pale. Not just that there are several of them (and can easily be more), but the film titles are usually twice the size of a person's name... So a separate pink film template?... but then "Japanese erotic cinema" is all about pink films... hmm... maybe it's the actors & directors who need their own templates, while JEC gets completely revised into a list of films by year.... Though even that would be unwieldy probably... still thinking... in the meantime, I've found the first pink film with an S&M theme. Talk about a milestone... Dekkappai (talk) 22:24, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Right-- it's the pink and AV industries that are markedly separate-- different studios, different distribution system, different products (although the very early AV industry was pink-studio-input, I think, but this is more a historical note-- we're not likely to be starting articles on early pink-studio-made AVs... I don't think...) The personnel involved in the two industries has more overlap... So maybe a pink film-only template, then an "erotic cinema" one for personnel, which wouldn't necessitate separating (and duplicating) AV from pink people?... Dekkappai (talk) 18:55, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Maybe an odd place to look for inspiration in our own area, but I think we could get some ideas from: Template:ThreeStooges... I think we're in agreement that it is the growing number of pink film articles which is creating most of the size issue with the template. The Stooge template gets around the huge filmography of this trio by linking to the stand-alone "Three Stooges Filmography"... So perhaps we also should have a stand-alone "List of Pink films"-- chronological, with director, cast & notes. That would mean we could take the growing list off the main Pink film article, listing just the very major works there, and linking to the full pink filmography... Only problem with this idea is that many of these films are not technically pink films (Roman pornos, Takechi Tetsuji's films, the Toei pinky violence)... and "List of pink films and related genres" sounds awkward... and then, we already have the List of Nikkatsu Roman Porno films, and I'm working up full filmographies for each of the pink studios (though these are just in their beginning stages, and still require a huge amount of work and time)... but, anyway, maybe it's a thought in the right direction?... Dekkappai (talk) 03:05, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've pondered long enough. Time for action! HERE I've started a list (ignore the left-over notes on the bottom). I'm not sure if I want to go with a table for this one... Then on the template, we can combine this list into the same section with the director/performer filmographies. If I ever get the studio filmographies presentable, we can put them in that section... But what to call this list? I'm thinking of adding your two AV articles too. How about "List of Japanese sexploitation films?" Not entirely accurate (with the AVs), but close enough, do you think? Dekkappai (talk) 01:00, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks-- it took more work than I thought it would! It trims down the pink film article a little too. Dekkappai (talk) 22:38, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, good job with the article. You know, I had started the article Rena Murakami for some time ago and now, there's Hitomi Kudo, because I consider these names as significant connections between Japanese AV viewers and both Chinese and Western audiences of Category III films. Maybe you can get interested in the new article as well. Ciao! Behemoth (talk) 17:52, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Heads up

edit

Hi Cherryblossom. You might want to take a look at: Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(people)#Non-notable_porn_awards. The intent, of course, is to remove as many awards as possible, so that claims of notability are removed, and then the bio/film articles follow. The spirit of Carrie Nation lives on... Dekkappai (talk) 18:01, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh right, taxes are due in a week or two, aren't they? Thanks for the reminder... Thanks for the input. If the "Notability" police start throwing out awards-- genuine, real-world confirmations of notability-- then I think the entire concept has completely jumped the shark. As much as I hate Wiki-political activism, I'd think about sacrificing article-writing time to work for throwing out Notability then. The subjectivity of the concept already creates biased coverage here, and going so far as to say that we editors know better than the award-givers who is notable and who is not would should prove that to anyone... I've been plugging away on '80s pink which has been a weak spot in our coverage. (I try not to let my own POV interfere, but I'm partial to the '60s and early '70s-- the era of la Tani...) Couple of big-name directors from that era still don't have articles. I figure the Pink film article can stand an overhaul after that, with all the new film articles, and more important, with the Sharp source which I didn't have when I worked through that article. Dekkappai (talk) 03:01, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

...so, I'm working on Widow's Perverted Hell last night, and I see it won Best Film, 6th place at the 1991 Pink Grand Prix. Great, I think. I've got a decent amount of commentary, but the prize will help. Wait a minute, I think... 1991 Pink Grand Prix? Didn't it start in 1994? Which leads to this discovery: User:Dekkappai/Temp#Pre-1994_Pink_Grand_Prix... SIX more years of awards, from 1988-1993! Some films I've been thinking about starting for a while but was dubious whether I could prove "notability" (e.g., Abnormal Excitement: Nao Saejima, starring Nao Saejima won the #1 prize for its year...), and I see some completely notable people from the early days of AV whose "notability" (note the quotes) would have been difficult to prove-- Shiina Itō for one-- who now have stamps of approval... But the question in my mind is: How the hell did I miss the first six years when I first started the article? Must be getting old... Taxes are due next week you say? ;) Dekkappai (talk) 17:17, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yesterday?! Damn! (Just kidding-- Schwarzenegger got his check... :-( I wouldn't be surprised if several of our current articles get a little "notability" boost from these 6 years, and, of course, there will be new ones too. I'll get it formatted & posted as soon as I'm able. Dekkappai (talk) 18:04, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. Do you know anything about Namio Harukawa? I've seen the name a lot, and his works, but was surprised that I couldn't find much real sourcing on him just now. I was under the impression he was pretty prominent in his field... Maybe you can find something? If not, the article looks like a goner... Dekkappai (talk) 18:54, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. The Porn Project just got a notification for a list of unreferenced bios in their subject area here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Pornography/Unreferenced BLPs I notice two Japanese bios, a manga artist (Toshio Maeda ), and an author (Midori (author)). I'm still busy with my pink film studio filmography/poster project, and adding posters to silent films for now, so neither one screams "Help me!" to me personally, but you might want to look in. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 18:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll look into Riri Kōda's pink filmography. I think it's pretty extensive, or maybe that's just her AV work... Oooh-- I see just now that the 2009 Pinky Ribbon Awards-winners have been announced: [7]-- Riri Kōda, Minami Aoyama, and Yumi Yoshiyuki have another actress award now, and so does Yuria Hidaka-- she's overdue for an article... Dekkappai (talk) 18:57, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

No problem-- It's good to take an occasional break from this studio filmography/poster project I've been working on. That's turning out to be my Mahabharata ;) I find do that this work is already making the accumulation of info for performer/director filmographies much easier. But the putting together of the table for Kōda's filmography took me much longer than usual for some reason. Just out of practice I guess... Dekkappai (talk) 02:36, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Toru Muranishi‎

edit

Nice job! I've been thinking about starting an article on him for a while, but since I've sort of specialized in the pink cinema, he's a little off-track... As you note, he was the discoverer of one of my favorites and first articles-- Kimiko Matsuzaka. I've got posters to both of her pink films, the one directed by Muranishi, and the one written by him, so I suppose I could risk starting an article on them later on, if enough "notability" is found. Keep up the great work! Dekkappai (talk) 22:40, 17 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom-- Yeah, I have some of that book scanned in text mode. I think Kaoru Kuroki was one of my earlier articles, and I wasn't as careful about the sourcing in those days. The bit about Kuroki moving with Muranishi to Diamond isn't quite sourced there, the source is for the description of her videos. It does say that she's working "In the plush new office of Diamond Productions" on p. 612, so I guess I inferred that she'd moved with him. Here is the text of p.600-621: User:Dekkappai/Temp3. Go into Edit mode and copy it, and let me know when you're done so I can remove it-- some copyright cop will probably harass me about it if it's up too long. There are some interesting bits about Muranishi that could expand the new article on him, as well as bits & pieces that you might find useful in other articles. Birthplaces

edit

Hi, Cherryblossom. Just back from a long weekend, and I see some ISP has changed several birthplaces in AV idol articles. The first one I checked-- Yuma Asami-- used Urabon Navigator as a source, and Urabon Navigator now uses our article for its bio on Asami. That's a problem we might have to fix eventually... The ISP changed her birthplace from Tokyo to Gunma, and I checked her S1 bio, and it says Tokyo. So, possibly, all the changes are wrong (they could be right, of course, but without a source backing up the changes, we have to go with the sourced on.) In this case, I'd change it back and source the infobox to S1. But right now I've got some Pink Film viewing to catch up on, and some sourcing to transcribe. Dekkappai (talk) 19:18, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Which is more accurate? Well, I think JA-Wikipedia is usually accurate, but it's not sourced. We have to go with the best source, of course... and it's hard to say which is best... I guess we'd take the profile from the subject's blog/homepage as most accurate, though WP rules frown on self-sourcing, so, I'd think we should go with the best secondary source that matches the info shown in the subject's own profile... The pink films? Yes, I've been enjoying them a lot. I've seen the four ArtsMagic releases-- 3 by Hisayasu Sato and one by Kazuhiro Sano. All Pink Grand Prix-winners, and all the DVDs packed with info (interviews with the directors and commentary by Jasper Sharp). So we should have pretty good articles on them eventually-- not just the usual film stubs. I'll give Samurai Princess a look when I get a chance. Dekkappai (talk) 06:45, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. I see from your deletion of a name at Moodyz we have a new editor attempting to work in the field ;-) Unfortunately s/he seems to be off to a rocky start, being accused of advertising, getting beginning efforts deleted, etc. I'll drop a note at the editor's page, but I see one of the remaining articles: Yui tatsumi could use some help (not sure if it'll survive), and another: Media Station Inc tagged for speedy deletion. Dekkappai (talk) 18:15, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I remember when I first came here, I thought, "'Sum of human knowledge?!' Great! I can start articles on all my favorite subjects." Then I ran into "Notability/sourcing" and all those other ways to bias WP towards the Anglo-current-pop-world... Anyway, seems to be a potentially good editor, just not familiar with the way things work around here, with a little help maybe we'll have another member of the JEC task force ;-) Dekkappai (talk) 18:44, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I suspect it is the same person. I got the name from the Weisser source (Weisser, Thomas (1998). Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films. Miami: Vital Books : Asian Cult Cinema Publications. p. 35. ISBN 1-88928-852-7. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)). I don't have a Japanese source listing his name in that film (only one Japanese source lists the cast, and that is a brief one), but Weisser is usually pretty accurate. Weisser also gives Shimizu also in the film: Molester's Train Housewife: Madam is a Pervert. My own compilations in progress: User:Dekkappai/Tools/Pink film article/Xces, User:Dekkappai/Tools/Pink film article/OP Eiga, and User:Dekkappai/Tools/Pink film article/Shintoho have several listings for "清水大敬". Dekkappai (talk) 19:13, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. I'm just updating some filmographies, and I see "清水大敬" directed a film at OP Eiga with Sakura Sakurada. The Japanese Wikipedia entry on him gives the pronunciation as "Taikei Shimizu". Ja-WP isn't considered "reliable" for citations, but I'd go with their pronunciation over that from a DVD cover. The Romanization and translation on DVD covers can be pretty iffy. Also, I've finished all four Arts Magic DVDs (Survey Map of a Paradise Lost, Rafureshia, Under the Carp Banner, and Love-Zero=Infinity), and recommend them all. I've transcribed all the director interviews on the disks, so that info will start seeping into our articles as citations. Dekkappai (talk) 02:07, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Right. I thought I noticed the Xcity change, but I was hoping I just imagined it. Your mentioning it confirms it :-( ... That change of the Pink Grand Prix links was more work than I thought it would be, and I think we've got far more Xcity links than PGP links... I'll wait till I'm sure of the link changes, then put in a request for help from a bot for the Xcity change... Dekkappai (talk) 13:21, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oh man, it may be worse than I thought... Usually these things just involve a change of directory, but it looks like they've completely redone things, even changing ID numbers. Ryōko Mitake's profile has moved from http://avidol.xcity.jp/english/info.html?aid=814 (in English) to http://xcity.jp/idol/detail/?id=1365 (in Japanese). I can't find the new English page... But if this is how they're all going, we won't be able to use a bot, we'll have to re-search and change them all manually... I see they are retained in the Internet Archive / Wayback Machine anyway, which may be a quicker way out of this mess... Another editor in Japanese subjects has pointed me to WebCite (http://www.webcitation.org/), which is a way to pre-emptively prevent this kind of trouble (and even worse, the total loss of webpages, all to common in Japanese subjects). I haven't got into it yet, but it's probably long overdue, given the precarious existence of the few good sources we can find in our subject area... Dekkappai (talk) 20:24, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. My most recent pink viewing involved The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai. Not quite as enjoyable as I'd hoped, but still some fun. The shorter 60-minute theatrical pink version is better, I think, though it's the 90-minute version that's getting all the raves. Oddly enough, I'm finding I enjoy the "Four Devils" work more than the 21st century guys-- Just reading about them before, I'd thought it would be the other way around... Still like the '60s & '70s stuff best though... Investigating Xcity doesn't give me much more hope. I see the ID numbers have changed on other models... Also, since it could have ramifications for all the AV articles, you might want to look in and comment on what's going on at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Naho_Ozawa&action=history and Talk:Naho Ozawa. Dekkappai (talk) 17:50, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for commenting, and for looking in on Big Tits Zombie‎ (I'd planned on commenting on the AfD, but I see it's been withdrawn). About Xcity: The Internet Archive would be easier, but it would be less accurate... I noticed, for example, that Naho Ozawa's filmography has been expanded in the couple years since we did her filmography on our article. Xcity currently lists titles for 2008-2009, but the Archive would not, I think... Dekkappai (talk) 06:02, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

...yeah, and after the Pink Grand Prix changes too... What do you think of the poster I've just put at The Machine Girl? It appears to be a take-off of old ('60s/'70s) Nikkatsu posters (even brags "In Color!"), but it's obviously for the film in question. Then I find this poster: http://www.nipponcinema.com/blog/new-poster-for-the-machine-girl/ which is modern style... Question is, could the Nikkatsu-style one be a fan-made hoax? Or do you think it is the original, done as a tongue-in-cheek tribute? Dekkappai (talk) 06:35, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Right. It looks like it's been intentionally aged, but then it's obviously a tribute to the older poster style and intended to be so... In other news, we seem to have another squabble brewing at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Pornography#Filmographies. I suggest we start breaking off to stand-alones the large filmographies which take up over half the article, just leaving the videos/films most significant to the performer's career in the performer's article. Since I know you had some issue with this before, and since most of the filmographies are mostly your work, I'll hold off on starting this until you give "consensus"... Dekkappai (talk) 14:36, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think the brouhaha is that they don't want the filmographies. Period. And they're bending and contorting to try to get it down to that randomly-chosen 5 or 6 films... I don't think the filmography in the article in question-- Rinako Hirasawa-- is that long yet. And it would be pointless to do this to ward off trouble if no one else requests is anyway... I did look at the P*G site & noticed a few more entries for Hirasawa. What do you think about the individual citation idea? (Like I say, I think I used to do this, then someone came along & slapped me with a "SPAMMER" tag...) If we agree to do this, I'll work on the theatrical / pink if you want to do the AVs... Oh, also, that "new" table format is a real pain in the ass when it comes to adding new films & videos, isn't it? I've been gradually slipping back to the older one... Dekkappai (talk) 22:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, I must have a drop of 19th-century German blood in me (I think I do, actually ;-) because the idea actually appeals to me. It would be a good way to review the lists for accuracy and additions. It would just entail going through the sources again and adding the citation to each video one at a time. Obviously it would be a lot of work, and as I say though, there's no sense in starting it if "consensus" is going to delete it all anyway, or say that we're spamming cites. And especially, there's no reason for just us in the JEC to do it when Featured article filmographies don't... Yeah, I had a feeling I might regret that new table format ;-) Dekkappai (talk) 23:57, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Misquoting

If comment had ended with something like "Could you explain" or "Please clarify" it would have been unexceptionable. And thanks back to you (for the congrats). Speaking of Yumika Hayashi, I just saw Mitsuru Meike's Bitter Sweet in which she appeared, and for which she got a Pink Grand Prix, and I think it's one of the best Japanese films I've seen made this century. I wasn't so impressed with his Sachiko Hanai which gets all the international accolades, but Bitter Sweet has all the qualities I used to love in Japanese cinema. If you like Ozu give it a look. Left me with a lump in my throat. I plan on starting an article for it soon. Dekkappai (talk) 02:28, 19 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cherryblossom. Note these have all closed:

and note they are all still blue-links. WHEW!!! Thank you for giving your input before I blustered in there. I'll take the hint and work on beefing up these articles before creating similar stubs. But all's well that ends well. Regards, Dekkappai (talk) 19:51, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Strike that premature celebration. All but the top one are still up in the air... I guess what lesson we take away from this is that even a real-world award is not confirmation of "notability" if some editors simply don't like the subject. I'm sure even "significant" coverage in a secondary "reliable" source will be disqualified, should enough biased editors weigh in on a discussion. What a farce "the sum of human knowledge" has become, simply because the encyclopedia "anyone can edit" has become the encyclopedia "anyone can make rules at"... Dekkappai (talk) 05:11, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
They'll disqualify any source or award they want. It may be time to start looking for a project that really wants to cover world cinema rather than play games. Jimbo has allowed this one to be overrun by schoolyard-bullies. One of the most extreme anti-content people, apparently, is even attempting to disqualify Sharp. I wonder if this is what Jimbo really wants-- No-content-creating thugs imposing their opinion as more important than world-renowned authorities... About bot requests: I made one for the recent P*G site change at: Wikipedia:Bot requests, and someone volunteered to do it within a couple days. Dekkappai (talk) 05:53, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Yes, take out the champagne now... I hope my modest peace-offering, Rape! 13th Hour will make the WP:GNG crowd happy ;-) It's the only article I did much work on this week due to the arguing. I can see how people would like that-- arguing rather than contributing-- as it is much easier than hunting sources and writing text. No wonder "discussing" seems to be the main activity here... Might take a little rest from all this anyway, unless duty calls again... Take care. Dekkappai (talk) 18:10, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh, lookie who's suddenly taken an interest in Japanese subjects! How strange, how mysterious, what a remarkable coincidence! Dekkappai (talk) 21:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, and now the second sweep is going through. Drop me an email sometime, Cherryblossom1982. Dekkappai (talk) 15:53, 10 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cherryblossom. Yeah, I'm through with these clowns. I've been contributing to IMDb, which, surprise, is a far more "reliable source" than WP will ever be. You make your additions/corrections with supporting evidence, it gets reviewed, then posted or rejected in 1-2 weeks. Also, if you really want to work on a Japanese cinema/entertainment Wiki, I've found what looks like a good one: http://eiga.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page They already had categories for "Pink" & "AV" before I ("Tokkan Kozo") even joined, so those areas are open-- as is much of the history of Japanese cinema. I'm having lots of fun there so far, hope to see you there. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 16:19, 31 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Boobs & Blood

This trio in particular:

Yumi Yoshiyuki, Reiko Yamaguchi and Yutaka Ikejima all here in the states... and I find out about it a month too late! Dekkappai (talk) 18:45, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, a guy can do worse than Nude Nuns with Big Guns... still doesn't make up for the lost chance to meet Mme. Yoshiyuki or Ikejima-sensei... Sure, join me over at the Eigapedia whenever you're able. I'm running wild there at the moment, throwing out stubs on everything from silent film to Akira Kobayashi movies, yakuza series, Torasan, and, of course, lots & lots of pink... Really shows me what a wasted opportunity we have here at Wikipedia. Japanese cinema (for one) is so poorly covered here partly because people waste so much time bickering and setting up and enforcing unnecessary rules. Partly because of those rules designed to keep out the "non-notable", or the "I'm an American teen/a cranky old Brit with too much time on my hands, I never heard of it, so delete it"... Whenever I peek in here I just see further confirmation of my opinion of the system-- for example, one of the staunchest, strictest "Deletionists" when it comes to award-winning Japanese films which have been released theatrically, nationally, twice, suddenly turns all "Inclusionist" on us when someone else tries to delete articles on obscure country-western songs... Gee, think maybe "Notability" might be a tad subjective? Bah, no use dwelling on the absurdities here. Should have left it long ago. Keep up the good work, and hope to see you over at Eigapedia soon! Langugae cat

edit

Hi. All language categories should be included as an actual cat on the film article, regardless if they are transposed from the infobox. Compare with the year category, which is also generated from the film date template in the infobox. It confuses novice users if they want to remove/add the cat and it's not physically there. I can't find the exact policy on this, but I'm sure someone on the film project can post you in the right direction. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:55, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Akiho Yoshizawa filmography

edit

The article Akiho Yoshizawa filmography has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Why is there an entire seperate page for her filmography? Why it shouldn't be merged into the article on her is beyond me.. Who needs to see a page on someone's entire filmography, let alone This?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
