Australian rugby league venues
Thanks for your recent edits on various rugby league articles. Please be wary though when changing the names of rugby league and other Australian sporting venues from their actual article name (for example Melbourne Rectangular Stadium to AAMI Park) as we usually maintain the reference as [[Melbourne Rectangular Stadium|AAMI Park]]
to avoid any future issues for when the sponsored name ceases. Storm machine (talk) 22:24, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Storm machine - thank you for your note. However, I don't understand your concern about future issues. Currently the sponsored name is in fact a redirect to the 'permanent' name, as with AAMI Park. When the sponsorship changes and the venue gets a new sponsored name, all that will be needed is for the new name to be created as a redirect too, in exactly the same way. I don't see any issue. Lang templates
Please familiarize yourself with MOS:LANG. Thanks. Parsecboy (talk) 17:35, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for that reference. Noted. However, a close look at those and related guidelines throws up some other issues. For example, MOS:FOREIGNITALIC says "Names of organizations and institutions should not be in italics". That would include names such as "Reichsmarine". Also, MOS:FOREIGN says "Foreign terms should be used sparingly". This seems to me to imply that terms such as Reichsmarineamt and Kaiserliche Marine should not be used where the English translations, German Imperial Naval Office and Imperial German Navy, are in fact the titles of the WP articles. Colonies Chris (talk) 19:19, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- I don't believe those articles are titled correctly; those names are routinely used in English-language sources on the subject, so I use them as well. But I also don't care so much as to try to move them. As for italicizing organizations, this is probably a discussion we should take away to WT:ACCESS, since the example that page gives is an organization, with no mention of the fact that we wouldn't want to italicize it.
