Hi there

Destroyeraa,

I came to your page originally to thank you for the turkey. When I saw the block due to confirmed sockpuppetry, I couldn't believe it. Needless to say, I was very shocked. I can see that you've learned the consequences of what you did. I also see that WP has given you a second chance, and I'm glad about that. It's hard, but hopefully someday you can regain trust in this community. I hope that you have learned from this, and I'll try to keep in touch. Please don't do this again. 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 04:24, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Honestly, the same goes for me...or most of it. I went to my watchlist and found, well, this block. I, too, was taken aback. I still believe that you can be a better user, Destroyeraa; I have faith in you. Just remember, as the other editors have said, try not to slip up again. Tfess up?or down? 04:30, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@CodingCyclone and TFESS: Thanks for the support. I will not slip up again, and I will do my best to regain trust. Thanks for still having faith in me. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 13:26, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
I have enough faith that I believe you should request a 2nd unblock. Be careful. You weren't abusive enough so, given a few days, you can request a second unblock. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 16:53, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: I will be unblocked in 5 days. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 17:22, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, but you may want to be unblocked earlier. Many users request unblock for short blocks. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 17:52, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: Nah, I already talked out of an indef block because I only made 1 sock - but the chance of getting unblocked right now is really low, considering the admins' comments above. Thanks though. Also, I allow and encourage you to help with the review with Typhoon Ruby 1964. You can do the preps and impact section. Thanks. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:03, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@Destroyeraa: To be honest, I think you have learned your lesson, but I wouldn't risk asking for another unblock. You've already gotten it shortened by a lot, just do your time in WP:SOCK jail and then get a clean start. Just to try to stay on everyone's good side instead of trying to push it, which may appear to some people like you don't care (even though I know you do!) 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 19:53, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@CodingCyclone: Yeah, I do and finish my sentence in Sock Jail (did you coin that?). I don't want to push it either, and plus, when consensus is found whether the community wants me an early release, my sentence would be either over or close to over. Also, I agree to Suffusion of Yellow's comment of The community does not always take kindly to perceived time-wasting.. Thank you CodingCyclone for having faith in me. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:58, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@Destroyeraa: Yes, I did coin that (lol). I have faith in you because I know that you don't mean to harm WP in any way. I know that you'll be ~super-duper extra careful~ from now on. Just carry on from this and build your reputation back up! I have faith in you! 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 20:09, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
I’ll help if I can. I’m busy doing a CVUA training. (And am not doing so well....) I find it unlikely that you will be unblocked, but it’s always worth a try. Maybe ask them to put it up to WP: AN for community input. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:07, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Additionally, a noreaster is coming through my area so I may lose power :(. It is also absorbing Invest 99L so it won't be Kappa. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:19, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it is worth a try as I think @Destroyeraa: has been lucky.Jason Rees (talk) 19:26, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Agree. The community does not always take kindly to perceived time-wasting. Destroyeraa is willing to accept responsibility for his actions. Let him. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 19:27, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Should a sock tag be added in the form of {{sockmaster|timeblocked}} because user is not indefinetly blocked, but temporarily blocked and shows they are a sockmaster, or just {{sockmaster}} in general? --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 21:28, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

@HurricaneTracker495: From what I see from other sockmasters, no. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 21:54, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
No. User: Dangled10 and User: CPHL(tag before they were indefinitely blocked). Also User: Leahmerone but the block expired. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:20, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: GeneralNotability removed the tag from the page. Ask them if they want to add it, but IMO Idk since I can’t edit my userpage. Anyway, my wiki experience from January probably isn’t as good as many other editors, no one welcomed me until Hink on June 5. However this is no excuse for my sock puppetry! Anyway, I had some discouraging dealings with some admins This is no excuse for sockpuppetry either and got yelled at by another user because I added an empty section. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:45, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
No it isn't. Anyway, I believe there was an AN thread on it. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 23:31, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: Can you clarify the above comment? Anyway, I saw that you opened a tea house thread on it - good on you. You could also ask GeneralNotability about it. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 03:03, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Seriously man... What were you thinking?!? There was no way this was going to end well. You're lucky you got caught this early; a few more months, and you may have been stuck with an indef block. An ex-admin I had trusted took this a lot further, and now they've been forced into exile. At least a quarter to half of all LTAs were probably good-faith contributors who turned against the project for various reasons; please don't go in that direction. I'm not going to repeat what the others have said above, but I think that a break could help, though it's not required. Just to be clear, you can use alt accounts, but they need to be disclosed somewhere (even if only to a handful of editors - this being the case for a dedicated account operating in contentious or controversial topics), and definitely not used in the way you operated HurricaneJanor. I'm not sure if any of this had anything to do with the LTAs you've been dealing with, but you can't let them get to you. You just can't. I've dealt with numerous LTAs throughout my tenure here (including some very nasty trolls), but the worst thing you could possibly do would be to end up taking the same path they went down. I would also strongly suggest that you defer any additional requests for advanced user rights (outside of perhaps Autopatrolled rights) for at least 6 months following the end of your block. I know that many users have had their faith shaken in you on differing levels. Honestly, I still believe in you as an editor (despite the disappointing turn of events), since I do believe that you're here out of a genuine desire to build up the project. This has to be one of the nastiest surprises I've had in the past month. Please don't do this again. I do agree with the assessment that you're going to have to be a lot more careful going forward. Just go back to doing what you were previously (minus the socking), and you should be fine. It'll definitely take you some time to regain the lost trust with some of the other users, but this is an important learning experience. I believe you're a good person. You'll need to demonstrate that to the others once you're able to resume editing. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 19:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

@LightandDark2000: Yeah...What was I thinking?!? I am very sorry I gave you such a shock with my sockpuppetry. I regret my actions and am very grateful for getting let out of an indef block. I dunno why I got into sockpuppetry - maybe to experiment or play games, but either way it was all very wrong. I will defer from user rights in the next 6 months and I received autopatrolled a few days before my block. I allowed another user to contest my rights, but an admin, checkuser, and oversight ultimately refused to remove my rights. Thank you LightandDark2000 for believing in me, and I will return to promoting articles to GA and FA. Thanks again. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:23, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@LightandDark2000: first of all, Edgar181 is now globally locked. (And I will update his userpage to reflect that). Second of all, he abused multiple accounts to vote 7 times in the ArbCom 2019 elections. I don't think destroyeraa would have been stuck with an indef, but the block may have been commuted to less.
@Destroyeraa: TB refused to revoke your PMV rights, but maybe if whoever gave you PCR, might revoke those. Additionally, you extremely rarely use PCR, so I have WP: HAT concerns. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:30, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Destroyeraa: Yeah, don't do that again. This is what got IPhonehurricane95 indeffed, but instead of accepting the block and reforming, he quickly embraced his vandalism and went on to harass a bunch of other users (now, every time that "UAK" idiot shows his face again, I get flashbacks to IPH95's multi-year vandalism campaign). You're probably familiar with some of the other LTAs on this site, including a few who have recently vandalized WPTC articles or who have been imitated by others. At least you didn't vandalize, I think. That's far worse than simple "dumb sockpuppetry", contrary to what HurricaneTracker495 said. As I've said earlier, don't do this ever again; go back to doing the contructive work that you were doing previously and you should be fine.   @HurricaneTracker495: I personally don't have any concerns with PCR rights here (PMV are a much more heavy-weight permission, in my opinion, as well as Rollbacker, which Destroyeraa doesn't have). I would personally refrain from taking action to have that permission revoked. If any of the admins here wanted to revoke those rights, they could easily have done so already. And I know that Destroyeraa didn't do anything close to the magnitude of what Edgar181 did. But I mentioned him to make a point. If the socking had gone on for longer or reached greater extents of abuse, the block probably would have been left as an indef. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 19:34, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@LightandDark2000: IPh95 created his socks per WP: GHBH, and then tried to game his way to rollback. He insulted users on his sockpuppet accounts. Also, UAK and IPh95 are different, and I'm assuming so is Lightning Sabre. Some CU comments would come in useful.--HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:38, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@LightandDark2000 and HurricaneTracker495:(edit conflict) Weather disaster. Yeah, I'm really ashamed of my dumb sockpuppetry, and I think someone whould create WP:DUMBSOCK. I know IPH95, including them trying to kill their dog to get unblocked. PCR will come into use sometimes when reverting vandalism, and as LightandDark said, I haven't vandalized. However, if you really want to revoke the right, feel free ask an admin to revoke it. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:43, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
IPH95 created his socks primarily for 2 reasons: 1) To game the system to obtain rollbacker, and eventually, admin privileges; 2) Because he was "bored" (basically, just for fun). As one of the WPTC editors who has witnessed his vandalism live and been on the receiving end of his personal attacks, I know this LTA quite well. His unblock request went far beyond threatening to kill his dog, BTW. (Let's see, threatening other editors, threatening to "kill all Japs on Earth", pages of graphic 9/11 images, ranting about how he hated a bunch of users who had reverted or blocked him & how he hated nearly every ethnicity on Earth, etc.) Pretty much every active WPTC editor who was around in 2013–2014 remembers IPH95, along with almost every single administrator or CheckUser who has ever blocked him (quite a lot). And the earliest UnderArmourKid accounts were all his. I know this based on a number of reasons (which I won't disclose here at this time), but Lightning Sabre is an unrelated LTA who picked up on IPH95's 9/11 imagery and tropical cyclone vandalism in Summer 2014 and decided to be a copycat vandal. He hasn't stopped since then. Ironically, Lightning Sabre used to be a good faith editor on tornado and tropical cyclone articles. But he had increasing content dispute issues, and he eventually turned to vandalism in December 2013, so this is another example of a good editor gone bad. BTW, there's no point in trying to get the rights revoked at this point. I don't see how anything good will come out of such a request. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 19:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Not too familiar, but I do know Yamla had some experiences with the vandal in 2016, when she got into requesting unblock. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:57, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Don't worry it's a matter of few days then you'll be unblocked. Dam222 🌋 (talk) 19:53, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
I can assure you that every single senior editor active on WPTC when IPH95 was around – as well as a large portion of the admins & CU team – are all very familiar with this LTA. This is one of the small handful of LTAs who made things personal for me. I mentioned these LTAs to make a point. I know that Destroyeraa is far better than those scum, but it's good to provide some examples of what happens if you let yourself go down the dark path. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:02, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@LightandDark: (edit conflict)(edit conflict)I knew you were just mentioning some example, and not saying that I was like them. They did some really bad sockpuppetry. IP95 seems really bad, even worse than that Wyatt dude. Wyatt actually used to be a constructive editor part of WPTC, and even gained PCR rights. I dunno what happened to him. Btw, LightandDark, I saw that you were blocked 1 month in 2015 for edit warring. You used to be very interested in wars in the Middle East (if I'm correct), but those articles are always controversial, and I refrain from editing 1RR articles. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 20:06, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
To be honest, IPH95 was the worst LTA to ever disgrace WPTC. "UAK" (Lightning Sabre) and the other newer LTAs don't even come close. (Some LTAs of even greater severity have occasionally dropped by, but tropical cyclone articles were never their main _target.) I can say that with certainty from my experience. If he came back, the tropical cyclone pages would be in a real mess, and you would probably see a lot more page protections and _targeted personal attacks. Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of dealing with LTAs who are far worse than even IPH95. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:11, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

@LightandDark2000: When was the last IP95 attack? I hope they never come back. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 20:15, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Yep, regarding that, I've had some anger issues of my own, as well as gripes with editors who I saw as pushing their own agendas or plunking in inaccurate information. But I've matured significantly since then. Mideast topics and wars are definitely a subject of interest for me, in addition to other scientific topics. But WPTC has kind of always been my home WikiProject. I think that IPH95 was last active in 2018. He seems to have disappeared after he got more into college coursework (probably when he started upper division classes). There's no guarantee that he won't be back (though that is my hope). But that isn't stopping his imitators from picking up where he left off. Thank God none of them are anywhere close to becoming as adept at disruption as he was (though "UAK" is getting closer). LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:18, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@LightandDark2000: then is Perseus, Son of Zeus to deal with. Likely IPh95 has some connection to them. This is getting more confusing the more I think about it . --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 20:51, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
No, Perseus, Son of Zeus is completely unrelated. That guy later came back as User:Cloudchased under the Standard Offer. IPH95 made some accounts that mentioned PSoZ (specifically, his Hurricanefan socks), but that's about as related as they are. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:54, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

@LightandDark2000:Do you have Discord? Because often sockpuppets and sockpuppetry is better to talk about off-wiki. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 21:13, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

I know. Not right now, I don't. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 21:14, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Message to SMB99thx and Hurricanehink

@SMB99thx: I personally believe that the newsletter should be bi-monthly. However, it’s my plan to have a special holiday newsletter (New Year’s Day) to celebrate all the work we’ve done this year and the huge number of new members. Also, thanks for nominating Chris. I don’t want to be WP:OWNy and stuff, but I wanted to nominate Chris myself and was a bit taken back when I saw that you replaced it and re nominated it. However, I am happy for that. I will finish reviewing Ruby as soon as I get out of this block, and also eventually nominate Beryl 2018 for GA and Chris 2018 for FA. As Hurricanehink said, Chris will need expansion in impacts such as coastal flooding, beach closures, rainfall amounts, rain, power outages, etc., as it is in the short side of articles. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 03:22, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

If you want the special holiday newsletter, make sure that it is an annual report of what's happening around WikiProject Tropical Cyclones! By the way, enjoy our newest edition of the Hurricane Herald! SMB99thx my edits! 03:29, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: Thanks. There’s a typo in the storm summaries section after the work “Molave”. An extra ]. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 03:55, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink: Thank you for not slapping a longer block onto my account. Also, thanks for the advice and I am sure other users would also want your mentoring. I hope you get that leak issue in your apartment fixed soon, it sucks to have a leak. If it was a roof leak, then that will be bad considering the inches of rain and hail we received yesterday. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 03:22, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

I suggest you don't remove other users' comments from your user page. Please assume good faith and work constructively with other users, even if you disagree with what they wrote on your talk page. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:11, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
the sole purpose of having tpa if you’re blocked is to contest it. Nothing else. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 17:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: Can you please not ping me or get me involved in things not involving me? There was this guy that violated IRR, not sockpuppetry, and you want PCR revoked. So be it. I don’t care and I don’t go meddling with other people’s work. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:12, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
No, I need you to explain PCR to that guy. I want PCR revoked because he edit warred. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:17, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: Oh ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. I see no harm of having PCR revoked, though if the user has rollback, that should be removed immediately. Has the user misused PCR? You should get PCR btw. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:23, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Maybe. And yes, Koavf does have both. I will copy what you said. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:24, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Current assessment table

Assessments valid as of this printing. Depending on when you may be viewing this newsletter, the table may be outdated. See here for the latest, most up to date statistics.
As of this issue, there are 164 featured articles and 70 featured lists. There are 133 A-class articles, and 1,010 good articles. There are only 71 B-class articles, perhaps because because most articles of that quality already passed a GA review. There are 415 C-class articles, 788 start-class articles, and 182 stub-class articles, with 23 lists, and 9 current articles. These figures mean that slightly more than half of the project is rated a GA or better. Typhoon Warren was the 1000th GA in the project.

Storms of the month and other tropical activity for October and November

SotM for October: Typhoon Goni / Rolly
Typhoon Goni formed from east of The Philippines towards the end of October, just as Typhoon Molave ravaged the country. Taking in the plentiful favorable conditions, Goni, known as Rolly in The Philippines, explosively intensified into a Category-5 equivalent hurricane just three days after it became a tropical depression. An eyewall replacement cycle managed to curb its intensification. Goni finished the cycle a few hours before it made landfall, and explosively intensified again into winds of 195 mph (JTWC) and a pressure of 884 mbar. This allowed it to tie with typhoons Haiyan and Meranti as the strongest typhoon by wind speed. Goni made landfall at peak intensity, killing 25 people and causing US$368 million in damage.

SotM for November: Hurricane Iota
Hurricane Iota developed in the central Caribbean Sea in mid-November. Like Goni, it explosively intensified, strengthening 120 mph in 48 hours, and deepening 81 mbar in the same amount of time. Iota explosively strengthened late on November 15 and early on November 16, becoming a Category 5 hurricane at 15:00 UTC on the 16th. By the time Iota had achieved C5 intensity, three people were already dead in Colombia due to landslides. As the storm made landfall, and subsequently weakened and dissipated, adding to the destruction from Hurricane Eta. Iota killed at least 61 people.

  • Atlantic - Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, Eta, Theta, Iota.

The active Atlantic hurricane season continued. In early October, Tropical Storm Gamma dissipated over the northern Yucatan and was absorbed by powerful Hurricane Delta, which was the season's third major hurricane. Delta weakened before hitting Quintana Roo, but restrengthened in the Gulf of Mexico, later hitting Louisiana as a low-end Category 2 hurricane in nearly the same location as Hurricane Laura in August. Delta killed six people and left US$4 billion in damage. A few days later, Hurricane Epsilon developed southeast of Bermuda, becoming a major hurricane and brushing the island to the east. Hurricane Zeta followed a similar path as Delta, striking Quintana Roo and later striking southeastern Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane; it killed 8 people and left U$3 billion in damage. At the end of the month, Hurricane Eta developed, becoming a strong Category 4 hurricane before striking Nicaragua. After killing hundreds of people in Central America, Eta reformed in the northwestern Caribbean. It made another landfall in Cuba, moved over the Florida Keys, and briefly became a hurricane again in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, before weakening and striking Cedar Key, Florida as a tropical storm. In early November, Tropical Storm Theta developed from a non-tropical low and moved across the eastern Atlantic.

Member of the month (edition) – Robloxsupersuperhappyface

Robloxsupersuperhappyface joined Wikipedia in July of this year, and has become the most prolific tropical cyclone editor relating to current events, as well as playing an enormous role in creation of newly formed tropical cyclones that eventually became destructive in many regions they are affected in (Hurricane Sally to Gulf Coast of the United States, Typhoon Goni to the Philippines, and Hurricane Iota to Central America respectively - Also, both Goni and Iota are Storms of the Month!). Because of that reason, Robloxsupersuperhappyface's articles are the one of the most viewed tropical cyclone articles in this year - as well as helped us on inviting prospective tropical cyclone editors to this project as they edited Robloxsupersuperhappyface's articles, leading into why we have more than 100 members in this WikiProject leading to this issue. As the result of brilliant Robloxsupersuperhappyface's contributions, we want to give many, many thanks to Super for helping this WikiProject grow so much recently. Happy Thanksgiving!

New WikiProject Members since the last newsletter - project membership is over 100 now!

More information can be found here. This list lists members who have joined/rejoined the WikiProject since the release of the last issue. Sorted chronologically in order of which they joined.

To our new members: welcome to the project, and happy editing! Feel free to check the to-do list at the bottom right of the newsletter for things that you might want to work on. To our veteran members: thank you for your edits and your tireless contributions!

Let's talk about that - An opinion piece by Weatherman27

Before I start, I would like to link everyone to a new essay regarding Force Thirteen. Here it is: WP:F13. I recommend users (old and new) to read this to understand why we don't use Force Thirteen as a source, and why it isn't a reliable source. If you want to see what good reliable sources are, read this: WP:WPTC/AS Now, I will get to the main point of this opinion piece.

Recently, I have gotten more involved in talk pages, and sharing my ideas and/or my opinions on different issues or ideas that have come up, primarily on 2020 Atlantic hurricane season's talk page. As I have discussed these thoughts and ideas with other editors, I have noticed and experienced some things such as being personally attacked, which has led me to want to reiterated some key points here. Despite the fact that they are mentioned commonly at the top of talk pages, I want to bring these up as it is important to have a good base where people can properly chat and discuss topics in peace.

1. Treat others with respect This one can't be stressed enough. Especially on talk pages, it is a place where you and your peers communicate issues, opinions, or ideas to each-other. This means discussing topics in a kind and adult manner. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing in what somebody may say, but that does not mean that you have the right to put them down for not having similar views. It is simply the Golden Rule.

2. Assume Good faith Along with my first point, I feel this one needs to be brought up. People have different opinions, and that is all right, but just because you may not agree with it or what they say, does not mean that it was not out of good faith. They were most likely voicing what they think on the subject, and that is alright. This also goes for edits. Unless it is pretty obvious that a user as vandalized something, it is always good to assume good faith, as other people might not know the rules as well as a more experienced editor.

3. Avoid Personal attacks This is a very important subject that needs to be remembered not just on talk pages, but on all other parts of Wikipedia as well. On talk pages, discussions can get pretty tense and heated, and I admit that I have gotten into a few of these arguments as well. Despite this, it is never okay to attack someone. As a user who has gotten personally attacked before, I can definitely say that it does not feel good, and usually the person who made the attacked will get warned or blocked, so please be kind and accept what other people have to say, because you will get nowhere by being rude.

4. Come to a consensus (preferably a clear one) On talk pages, whenever there is a discussion regarding something important like the merging of an article, people need to decide what the outcome of something important on a talk page. For example, if there is say, a merge discussion for an article on a tropical cyclone, many people will give their input. Usually, different people will have different views on whether to merge or keep the article. Sometimes, the editor will close the discussion early, but this is usually for unrelated reasons, though it sometimes may be because the editor had a change of mind. Now, if there is support for say a merge of the article, then that will be the consensus and the discussion will be closed and the article merged. This can also happen on the opposite side, if an article is to be kept, the discussion will be closed and article kept. Simply put, it is important to discuss and come to a clear decision if there is a consensus involved, to avoid difficulty with the article or page in the future.

These are just a few examples of things that editors of the WPTC need to remember when using talk page discussions. There are plenty of other things not mentioned here that are just as important when it comes to using talk pages. I made this simply to help remind editors the key points when using the discussions, and I hope these were helpful to new users as well as veterans. We need to really get better at staying calm and keeping civil. I have noticed lots of hostility and arguing lately, as well as edit warring and disputes. We need to work this out. We are supposed to work together as WPTC editors, so please fix it. It is sad seeing so many editors getting reported or having to get blocked from this. Once again, keep discussions civil and have a good day. Signing off,

My experiences as a WikiProject Tropical cyclones member by SMB99thx

Hello again, people of the WikiProject Tropical cyclones! In here, I want to tell how my experiences with WikiProject Tropical Cyclones changed my views on WikiProjects, helped me out of trouble and to be able to regain the trust of many people in Wikipedia.

When I joined WikiProject Tropical cyclones, it was the second WikiProject I have ever joined. The first WikiProject I have ever joined is WikiProject COVID-19, and the reason why I joined that project is to gain trust of people when I contributed to COVID-19 articles and as well as my fight against an IP editor which turned out to be the LTA named Bedriczwaleta (and has been active much more longer than I thought, since February of last year (!!!!)). I have the same thought process (and combined with my plans of editing old season articles, which is not done yet) when I first joined this WikiProject, but joining the WikiProject Tropical cyclones turned out to be something different. It led me to know what are the purposes of WikiProjects are and in turn led me to join many other WikiProjects since.

As such, what made me change my views on WikiProjects during my time as a WikiProject Tropical Cyclones?

First of all, I have seen that WikiProject Tropical cyclones members always actively work together to advance project goals, actively participating in discussions and give much-needed advice on new WikiProject Tropical cyclones members (including me). Second, WPTC really cares about our articles (and the assessments) as part of their project goals. 2018 FT project and Meteorological history of Hurricane Dorian (Four Award!) is a prime example of this. Third, we are actively welcoming the new members of this WikiProject and giving these members opportunity to succeed with us by i.e. giving out WikiLove (barnstars). Fourth, we, like WP COVID-19, actively fight against vandals and other LTAs e.g. Sidow........., UnderArmorKid, and Iphonehurricane95.

These kinds of activity led me to change my belief on what WikiProjects truly are. You could see this kind of activity on other good WikiProjects like WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors, which I just joined recently on 26 October 2020 as of this newsletter and WikiProject Articles of Creation, which I have interest on joining but I might not be able to.

Now, why WikiProject Tropical cyclones brought me out of trouble (and Chicdat, for that matter)?

WikiProject Tropical cyclones is generally a content-creating WikiProject. We really care about improving tropical cyclone coverage on Wikipedia. Members of this WikiProject generally encouraged to communicate and discuss (in Wikipedia, in Discord, or in IRC channel), and this is what helped me and Chicdat out from trouble since our discussions from what I have seen is not always administrative.

Before I joined WikiProject Tropical cyclones (and when I was still new to WikiProject Tropical cyclones), I have been putting myself on trouble numerous times. I was an ANI regular, and as an ANI regular I detailed about my struggle to deal with the LTA Bedriczwaleta and I'm was also putting up IBAN proposals of User:Jadebenn and User:Moamem as well as User:U1Quattro and User:1292simon. While I have managed to get my proposal succeeded and finally got Bedriczwaleta back on track for a while (what I thought), in August 20 (as I was about to finalize my decision to enter my college I'm currently in right now) I got myself into serious trouble against IP range 185.66.252.0/23 (which is apparently good at programming - I'm not). I tried to get them blocked for PA (calling me a thief who has a black soul), but this is where when I realized that I had to attribute things I copied within Wikipedia and I had to apologize to the user. Since then, I did my best to attribute everything I had copied articles from (Example) and I also realized that ANI is not for me (as I do not want to get into troubles by just being there), which led me to quitting ANI until November of this year when I decided to involve myself on Miggy72 dispute (now banned for sockpuppetry - Miggy72 could have been invited to WPTC if he stopped on insisting to create non-notable topics).

After that incident with the IP range 185.66.252.0/23, I have stated that I do not want to get myself into trouble as a presence in ANI. As such, I decided to focus on what I want to do, which is to continue my project of splitting season articles of the yesteryear and began to increasingly involve myself within the project - to look for help and giving the best help that I can do for this WikiProject. The activity from that September led me to become Member of the Month in the previous edition of this newsletter. It was a comeback that I needed, and I want to thank WikiProject Tropical cyclones (especially Hurricanehink) for getting me on this situation. Without their help, I'm not sure if I could be here on this day.

Now, for the final question – why this WikiProject helped me (and Chicdat) regain trust of many people in Wikipedia?

As I stated before, this WikiProject encourages discussion within other members of this WikiProject, which in turn encourages close involvement in all sides of this WikiProject. Because of this, some people are actually helping us learning policies in Wikipedia as the time goes on, rather than falling in into blocks. As such, with time, I have seen that some admins are open for Chicdat to become a rollbacker, while I got hold on several automated gadgets that was more useful. It appears that these tools are the reason why these people are one of the more trusted people in Wikipedia, which in turn helped me a lot at gaining trust. Someday in the future, I'm looking to become an admin by myself. But that's for the another day. For now, what I'm currently doing now is to work at my craft to eventually prepare for the day when I will seek for adminship in the years ahead.

In conclusion, you can see that this WikiProject helped me to regain my standing, alongside Chicdat, Nioni1234, Cristianpogi678, HurricaneTracker495 - and of course - CyclonicallyDeranged! If not for this WikiProject, I don't think they are will be here. Chicdat could have been CIR-blocked like Prahlad balaji and PythonSwarm, Nioni1234 and Cristianpogi678 ending up like Binbin0111 and Miggy72, HurricaneTracker495 would have a trouble establishing himself (or probably will never establish theirselves and stay as an IP) and CyclonicallyDeranged fully driven out from Wikipedia.

By the way, to me, both Binbin0111 and Miggy72 are young, but unfortunately they took on the wrong path (Binbin0111 was one of the earliest Force Thirteen insinuators - Binbin0111 is probably the impetus of Force Thirteen policy in this project (as it was made back in 2017), while Miggy72... we know what happened). I feel bad for them, especially Binbin0111. Had Binbin0111 is willing to learn and took steps forward to become productive young editor like Yellow Evan and two other resilient young editors I have mentioned did, Binbin0111 could have been one of the most valuable editors in this project, especially in matters related to Western Pacific basin, and in extension, Vietnam.

That's it. That's what I have to say. College is increasingly getting into my feelings right now, but I will do my best as I can coming into December. Sorry if I have a bad English. Thanks for reading this opinion piece!

Greetings from Indonesia,

SMB99thx my edits!

Zeta 2020

Hey dude you think that Zeta will be upgraded post analysis to a C3?

@Doge1941: It's hard to tell, though aircraft recon supported minimal C3 winds. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 18:13, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@Doge1941: Depends on whether there is enough evidence from recon supporting C3 winds. Qwerty325 19:42, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
If it is, we'll tie 2005 for most major hurricanes(cause I don't think we're getting another one). --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 21:11, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Yup; I doubt a December major hurricane Qwerty325 00:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Actually, probably no... [1] actually downgraded Zeta to 105 mph. HurricaneCovid (contribs) 16:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Some person edited the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season Zeta to 105 mph but I reverted can you find that person? Doge1941 (talk) 16:46, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Doge1941: They did because a post-season map from the NHC at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb_latest/tws_atl_latest.gif because NHC revised wind speeds for the 2020 storms.
@HurricaneCovid: Doge1941 is right, the advisories still override the besttrack until the TCR arrives for each individual storm. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 18:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

thats preliminary tho Doge1941 (talk) 18:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Im reverting it Doge1941 (talk) 18:15, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Doge1941: Thank you. In addition, HurricaneCovid, The newly released summary shows Zeta at 110. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 18:17, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, great, let's use that then. HurricaneCovid (contribs) 18:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

I believe they also changed Hanna to 85 mph I reverted that too. Doge1941 (talk) 18:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Should we use the Monthy Tropical Summary for now or wait till TCRs? Doge1941 (talk) 18:35, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Doge1941: We use the monthly summaries first, though we use the TCR for the storms with an asterisk (*) on the monthly summary. @HurricaneCovid and Shift674: Your edits were made in good faith, though please remember in the future to only use the monthly summaries and the NHC advisories. A new map will be made after all the TCRs are released. @HurricaneTracker495: A discussion to gain consensus isn't necessary, since it's now WP:SNOW to use the monthly summaries/advisories. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:03, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Destroyeraa: I realize that now, and I apologize for my disruptive edits. I’ll remember that for the 2021 season. -Shift674- (talk) 19:07, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Shift674: It's ok, everyone makes mistakes. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 19:12, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Destroyeraa: Thanks. Looking forward to your unblock! -Shift674- (talk) 20:08, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Disclosure

To all: I really have a brother whose name is Kevin. He created the user Hurricane Kevin with my help, and he wrote a disclosure on it. However, my brother soon left Wikipedia and turned to Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki where he views the different season pages and helps with creating tracks for mine. Kevin has forgotten his password since then. Hurricane Kevin and I have never wrote on the same discussion. @Weatherman27: Thank you for inviting him, but he will not respond and I have forgotten the password too. If you have any queries about the account, please contact me here. Thank you all. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 20:13, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

You can recover the password if you registered the account with an email address. But if you don't have that option, he can create a new account, but he'll have to disclose that he was originally Hurricane Kevin. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:31, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
I meant to send this a few days ago, but forgetfulness got the best of me. Thanks for letting me know though, I removed the invite from his talk-page. 🌀Weatherman27🏈 (Chat|Edits|sandbox) 23:04, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

LitePoint

Hello, I saw your comment on the draft of the LitePoint page that the "products" section read like an advertisement. I've removed the products section and would love for you to take another look at the entry for publication. Thank you.

DJADave (talk) 00:45, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Since this user is blocked, you can take a look at another AfC reviewers. SMB99thx my edits! 01:26, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@DJADave: The earliest I can review is four days. I took at a look at the draft and it looks much better! However, you need to re-submit the draft. If you want it published earlier, you should contact another AFC reviewer or just wait for an AFC reviewer to pick up the draft, as many look at new submissions and the old submissions unfortunately get piled up. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 01:42, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: You should apply for AFC reviewer. It has nothing to do with your English, which is quite good! Since you created any articles already about old typhoon and NIO cyclone seasons and storms, I'm sure you will be accepted and given the tools. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 01:42, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I applied for AFC reviewer just right now. SMB99thx my edits! 01:43, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: Are you gonna apply for NPR? --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 01:56, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Yes. SMB99thx my edits! 01:57, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: You should have autopatrolled first though...it's easy to gain autopatrolled if you made 25 mainspace articles excluding redirects and disambigs. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 02:01, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I attempted that for the first time, it was failed. I'll try for the second time, though it's going to be hard since my articles are mostly stubs. SMB99thx my edits! 02:02, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@SMB99thx: Tbh, some of the "articles" of the 25 were actually redirects that were converted into articles by other users. Anyway, stubs count and an article is still an article, whether it is a stub or an FA. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 02:19, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

I'll go for autopatrolled later in time once I completed my series of articles I have created (old PTSs, decade articles, etc...) SMB99thx my edits! 14:24, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Hurricane Chris (2018)

The article Hurricane Chris (2018) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Hurricane Chris (2018) for issues which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of KN2731 -- KN2731 (talk) 10:21, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@SMB99thx: I see that KN has started the review. I am currently expanding Chris here, so many of the review I saw I is currently fixed / in the process of fixing. Done. Could you please check the article now? SMB99thx my edits! 13:50, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: I saw! Thanks! I mostly expanded the impact while fixing some for the MH. You can do the rest of the fixes. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 13:53, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I'll do it on December 5. SMB99thx my edits! 13:54, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@SMB99thx: By the way, ~ Destroyeraa🌀 14:08, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
  • Chris originated from a frontal system that moved offshore the coast of the northeastern United States on July 2 - MH says June 29?
    •   Done
  • Link "received the name" to Tropical cyclone naming
    •   Done
  • I see the minimum pressure is mentioned in the lead, but not in the MH? And when did Chris reach peak intensity?
    •   Done
  • There is no indication that the first two sentences of the MH are relevant to the storm. Reading on, I see The remaining convection, or shower and thunderstorm activity, of the front and a new upper-level disturbance formed a surface low on July 4 - firstly, is the new upper-level disturbance the one that was mentioned earlier? Secondly, this should be mentioned earlier, rather than keep the reader guessing what the frontal system and upper-level disturbance have to do with Chris.
    • The TCR says this.
  • Despite being located over the Gulf Stream, the depression's convection diminished greatly - something like "Despite being located over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream" would make the relation between convection and the Gulf Stream more obvious to the non-expert reader.
    •   Partly done Added a reason why the convection diminished greatly.
  • No need to abbreviate low-level circulation center if it's never used again.
  • Weak steering currents led Chris to stall - what caused the steering currents to be weak?
    • TCR doesn't say.
  • This caused the storm to acquire annular characteristics, while slowly strengthening - "This caused" implies that Chris taking on an annular appearance and strengthening slowly was a direct result of it stalling off the US East Coast, which I don't think is what is intended here.
  • The steering pattern around the storm was changing as a weakening mid-level ridge over the central Atlantic and a new trough over the northeastern United States began to accelerate the cyclone eastward. This seems to be a misuse of past continuous tense, as it shifts the sentence's focus onto the changing nature of the steering pattern, rather than on Chris.
  • Is "quicker" considered acceptable under en-US?
  • Located over the Gulf Stream, Chris proceeded to rapidly intensify - what was the difference from earlier that allowed for quicker intensification?
  • Link extratropical cyclone and Iceland in the MH.
  • More than 75 people had been rescued from Wrightsville Beach from July 4 to July 8 - "had been" → "were", and second "July" doesn't need to be there.
  • a Coastal Flood Advisory was issued for the Jersey Shore due to the threat of coastal flooding what else would a coastal flood advisory be issued for??
    •   Done
  • Environmental Canada should be "Environment Canada" IIRC.
    •   Done
  • Is Chris passed 383 mi (616 km) to the north supposed to be closest approach? Otherwise there's not much point putting the exact value. Besides, ref 30 says Chris was 357 mi WNW of Bermuda.
  • This isn't strictly relevant to the GA review since the GA criteria don't cover citation styles, but use of |work= and |publisher in {{cite news}} should follow Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Style#Newspaper vs publisher vs agency vs author in news articles. Use of |author= versus |last= |first= should also be consistent.

@Chicdat: Wyatt didn't create hundreds of socks. that was User: IPhonehurricane95, who has 174 confirmed socks and many of them untagged. Worst vandal WPTC ever saw. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 14:33, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Why?

This is certainly a shocker man: a block for multiple accounts? Not attacking you or anything, but why did you do this?ChessEric (talk · contribs) 22:24, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

@ChessEric: Hmm...took you some time to figure it out. Anyway, I’m extremely sorry for creating a sock and using it. I did some really dumb things here, and I want to sincerely apologize for it. Thanks for still having faith in me. DestroyeraaDestroyeraa was an acknowleged doppelendanger and there was one undisclosed one. However, Hurricane Kevin could still be Destroyeraa-it was unblocked, but I don't fully trust it. In addition, how do we even know Destroyeraa has a brother? Still...I trust it. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: HurricaneKevin is unblocked, and I made a #Disclosure. I forgot to disclose the 3xDestroyeraa, but that had no edits and no abuse. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:38, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Wait a second? Does that mean WP:COMPROMISED and WP:SHARED apply? --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:40, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: No, my account isn’t compromised. Nor is Kevin’s. Neither mine nor Kevin’s are shared. I created the account for him because he wanted to have an account after seeing the work I did to Isaias, Hanna, etc. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:43, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
If that's the case, HK had to immediately have a password change and you not know it. Additionally, hurricane kevin forgot his password so it's kinda a lost cause. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 22:45, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: I honestly do not know Kevin’s password. He doesn’t know either, and the account hasn’t had any edits in the last two months. If you look through the history of his userpage, you can see his disclosure. Anyway, Kevin doesn’t know my accounts password since I change it every so often.~ Destroyeraa🌀 22:53, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
I would believe that more without a multiple account abuse. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 23:00, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Sure, HurricaneTracker495, trust is hard to regain when lost. However, please assume good faith and not gravedance on my talk page in the future. You aren't doing this now, but in the last few days you've asked for a witch hunt against me and also frivolously threatened to remove my talk page access while I was making small talk and wanting to help prevent harassment and vandalism on this wiki. Also, I've read your opinion piece, and I have to say that I'm not surprised that you think I may become a LTA. Let me say it once and for all - I have no plans to sock again, and I have fought against several notorious LTAs (Sidow, Message from God, etc.). I will greatly appreciate it if you assume good faith towards me when I come back. Thank you, and good night. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 00:58, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

I would have assumed good faith, but many users in this situation became LTAs, like Wyatt2049, and the worst one of all, iPhoneHurricane95. ~30% of our LTAs were once good faith contributors. And one thing LTAs can do is lie. I will assume good faith, but I’m nervous. Also please refactor ChessEric’s comment, thanks. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 01:03, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
@HurricaneTracker495: I saw that already. Anyway, I understand where you're coming Destroyeraa, but you have GOT to be more careful in the future. As someone who has constantly been in your corner, this hurts because I know that everything you've done on here has been productive and you have made significant contributions here. I know personally about deception and losing trust because I have problems with it myself, so I hope you understand me when I say you got some serious work to do when it comes to regaining that trust with others, which includes me. Oh and also, my Wikipedia time over the Thanksgiving holiday was extremely limited and when I was on, it was mostly with the now-completed Tornado outbreak sequence of May 14–June 1, 1962 and Tornadoes of 2020 articles since hurricane season was FINALLY ending. This was the first time I had checked up on you in awhile! LOL!ChessEric (talk · contribs) 22:46, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Re: Public Apology for Sockpuppetry

Hey there, Destroyeraa and welcome back to Wikipedia! Just ignore the non-good-faith-assuming haters that insist that you'll be an LTA. Every case is different, and we shouldn't label an editor as a possible LTA just because many users in a similar situation become LTAs. Personally, I'm very faithful that this is an opportunity for you to learn more as an editor, and that you won't stray onto that dark and wicked path. Glad to have you back, and (me myself and I'm sure other editors are) looking forward to working with you in the future. Cheers, and happy holidays!   --Chlod (say hi!) 14:38, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Mentorship

Hey there Destroyeraa. Now that your block has been lifted, I have two assignments for you. First, any time you're on a talk page or a user page, make sure your edit makes the editing environment a better place. That includes

  1. Not removing talk page comments (it's best to leave them until they're archived, let other people handle that)
  2. Making sure your comment adds to the existing discussion. If you're agreeing with someone, then just saying "I agree" doesn't matter much, since Wikipedia isn't a democracy where votes matter. If you disagree with someone, make sure it's respectful, assume good faith, and try being inclusive.
  3. Talk for the sake of talk is useless, and every sentence we write in talk space means less time for editing the main article space.

As for the second assignment, I'd like you to pick a long-term article. I know you have Chris and Beryl, but they're largely done. I'd like you to pick something that you could devote an entire month to (assuming you'll still be doing some regular edits to other articles here and there). Pick something that really captures your interest. It should be ranked worse than a good article.

One more thing, I saw your public apology. That's a good way to garner people's trust again. Just make sure you don't lose that trust. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:02, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink: Thank you, and I hope you are well. For assignment 1, I'll try to keep number 1 in mind, and Jasper Deng has already talked to me about it off-wiki. He says that sometimes you can manually archive the discussion if it is definitively over or counterproductive. The only exception I can think of is the 2020 atl season talk page, which has a big banner that says don't turn it into a forum, and forum discussions can be refactored or removed. I'll try to keep that in mind. For number 2 of assignment 1, from an ITN perspective, just saying support or oppose doesn't say much. I'll try to always AGF. I entirely agree with Talk for the sake of talk is useless, and every sentence we write in talk space means less time for editing the main article space. I have gradually learned in the past weeks and months that we as a project have been talking too much. Noah says that the 2018 FT is running low right now, and there are only a handful of participants.

For the second assignment, I don't believe that Beryl is ready yet. The impacts need a lot of expansion for GA, and the met history is outdated. I plan to do Chantal 2013, as a couple of users have found that it lacks an article. Thanks for the mentorship, and I look forward to what you have to say about my ideas! ~ Destroyeraa🌀 01:13, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

True you can manually archive the discussion, but at this point, I'd suggest you refrain from that. Do your best to make sure every edit is productive, and either adds to mainspace, or furthers the talk page discussion. If a discussion is becoming forum-y, let someone else handle it. As for the 2nd assignment, I still think you should pick something bigger. Chantal 2013 doesn't really need an article - its damage was minimal, and it was only a short-lived tropical storm. Those can be hard to write about (as you might find out when you do Beryl), as you might have difficulty finding impact information. I suggest you find something slightly bigger (but still doable). Don't try a retired hurricane (those can be overwhelming), but try for something bigger than Chris/Beryl. You can learn a lot by doing a bigger article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:36, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Also, would you mind if I remove your apology from the newsletter? The newsletter should be about the project and the articles, but your apology makes it rather about you. By the time the newsletter comes out, it will have been over a month since your block ended. It's important to learn your lesson and move on. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: I removed it myself. Regarding the newsletter, one of the main topics this issue is sockpuppetry, which is mainly in response to my actions. I'll try to remember you can manually archive the discussion, but at this point, I'd suggest you refrain from that. For Beryl, ReliefWeb is a good helping hand and I use it for English sources. I have yet to find more sources for it, though Spanish sources will be easy to find with "Tormenta Beryl impacto" o "Huracan Beryl impacto" o "Tormenta Beryl inundaction (flooding)" or something like that. Beryl still has a lot to be done IMO, and I just added some more info to Chris. Chantal is a requested article, and since it caused $10 million in damage and 1 death, there is surely information out there. In the atl, there aren't many article to write from scratch, though there are many in the WPAC but there's the language barrier. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:56, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Chantal has a perfectly fine section in its season article though, and it was a low-impacting tropical storm. I'm suggesting you find something with a bit more impact, something you can invest in for longer. As for Beryl, good instincts with the Spanish sources. I suggest using "danos" (damage) and "lluvia" (rainfall) in your searches. As for Chris (and other future articles), watch out for having too many sub-sections. If a section would only have a few paragraphs, it doesn't need sub-sections, and in Chris's case, the article would probably look better without them. One last thing: be sure articles are consistent with the units. I see you have inch (mm) as well as mm (inch) in the Canada section. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:09, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: Hmmm...I'll think about what storm to write about/improve. I wrote Cristobal 2020, but that will have to wait until TCRs come out. Thanks for the additional search terms! I can get the basic gist of most Spanish articles, such as how much damage occurred or whether someone died. I removed the subsections for Chris. How does it look? ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 20:28, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Chris looks better, although there's one too many pics now. Your call which one to remove. Also, I'd like to discuss your recent contributions. Is there a reason you're getting so involved with articles for creation? I think it's more important you learn how to write articles, and how to engage other users productively. I'm a little concerned about your interactions with HurricaneTracker495 (talk · contribs). I think this edit was valid, considering you were blocked for sockpuppetry, and my mentoring you is because you do need more oversight. You need to be sure that all of your edits make Wikipedia a more productive editing atmosphere. That means engaging other users positively, and assuming good faith. The only way Wikipedia works is when the editing atmosphere is positive and not toxic. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:56, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: Regarding HurricaneTracker495's edit, it was absolutely inappropriate in the way it was worded. Many members of WPTC, including me, believe it was to incite more distrust against me. Also, the way that the editor had been acting against me is rather disruptive. For example, the editor has cast aspersions saying things like "Destroyeraa may become an LTA" or "There is a fear that he (Destroyeraa) will become a LTA." In addition, witch hunting is never allowed on Wikipedia, and though HT495 probably did not meant it to be taken that way, the wording was overly rude and harsh. One-month accounts should not be involved in requesting longer blocks for reformed sockmasters or telling admins how to do their job. I absolutely do not care if you want more scruity of my actions here. Most importantly, there is currently an SPI case. Wikipedia: Sockpuppet investigations/Destroyeraa. Destroyeraa should be indefinitely blocked for abusing multiple accounts. The SPI case was closed already and GeneralNotability ruled that a one-week block was justified, with Mz7 concurring. I am very grateful for them giving a second chance. However, I do not appreciate people going around and advocating that I should be re-investigated and re-blocked indefinitely. I don't have any other problems with HT495 other than the overly pushy behavior and the casting aspersions. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:07, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Also, I am dissatisfied with HurricaneTracker's response to many users, include Chlod and I. Instead of admitting that casting aspersions is wrong and that he may have offended me, he deflected by writing two more allegations and grievances, including how I don't use PCR much (I did, he later struck that out) and how I close things without the (non-admin closure). I just have concerns about his GF, but I am glad that both of us are being mentored right now. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:10, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Regarding AFC, I find it helpful to help other users with their drafts (see thread below). I made at least 20 articles from drafts (including Dolores and Chris), and I think I know enough to help other users to improve their drafts. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:13, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

You also have the right to ignore people you disagree with on here, and if you want to prove him wrong, then do so with your actions instead of giving the user so much of your time and energy. We're all just users on here trying to do our best. Disputes between editors is a big waste of time. You're not always going to get an adequate apology, and you're not going to be fast friends with some users. Wikipedia isn't a forum or a social club. It's a website to document human knowledge. Try keeping that in mind if you get heated or annoyed. Lastly, I'd like to ask, what are your long term goals for the website? Let's say, one year from now, what would you like to accomplish? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:17, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink: I'm not expecting an apology from him anymore, and I'll probably forgive his pushy behavior and forget about the dispute sooner or later.
I will probably want to get at least one article to FA status, at the least. I'd like to see the 2018 atl season to good topic. I'll think some more about it later. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:23, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Whether it's HT495 or anyone else, just try to maintain a civil editing atmosphere, and focus on why you're here - building up the encyclopedia. That's a good goal, getting a featured article. That's why I suggested earlier picking an article that you could work on for a month. I think you might have some difficulty with Chris or Beryl, considering they're fairly low-impacting storms, and you might have an easier time with a slightly bigger storm at FA. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:26, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: I try hard not to get mad, and I usually don't unless something really irks me (LTAs, persistent vandalism, etc.). By the way, I'm helping Chlod on his draft - [2]. The 2020 WPAC season really hurt the Philippines a lot, considering they got typhoon after typhoon with only a week to clean up and assess damages. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:26, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Not a bad idea for a draft, but it would be even more helpful if you tried expanding one of the storms. Vongfong is in good shape, but a lot of the other articles are borderline stubs. And unfortunately, the WPAC has a ton of stubs for recent storms, they don't get a lot of love. This is why I've been pushing lately for not so much talk on the talk pages. Wikipedia isn't a forum, and there is a lot of typing going on that could be used to improve recent storms with articles. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:33, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: True. The WPAC tends to receive less love than the ATL or EPAC seasons, which is sad. However, due to the large influx of new editors this year (probably due to the pandemic), 2020 has received a lot more love than 2019. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:41, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Quite true! I just hope all of these new users don't just leave after the season, or stop editing. There are so many articles from this year alone, many of which are in pretty lousy shape. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:43, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: I have noticed that several users are interested in promoting articles to GA, Robloxsupersuperhappyface and HurricaneCovid have nominated Hurricane Sally and Hurricane Zeta, respect, respectively. However, neither article were in good shape (both start-class with citation needed tags). Nevertheless, it is good to know and see other "new" editors other than me interested in the GA process. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:48, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Yea, there's a difference between someone being a casual editor (usually they remove vandalism, and occasionally nominate articles for GA status for something they've barely worked on) and a serious writer. There aren't *too* many writers in the project. That's why I'm glad you worked on Chris and Dolores 15, and I hope you find other projects that you're interested in getting to GA or better. One idea is List of New Jersey hurricanes, which is a featured list, but probably for not much longer unless someone works on it. Any interest in that? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:29, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink: KN passed Chris earlier today. I'm a bit concerned about the List of statename hurricanes lists, since many are FL but don't meet the standards anymore. I hate delisting those, as I did on the Florida list. By the way, some users have joined the Non-tropical storms Wikiproject, even though it is defunct. Maybe they want to restart the project? ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 22:09, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

As for the lists, hopefully we can get them all back up to featured status. If it's only a few storms, they can be improved without delisting the entire article. If it's a significant number of entries (as was the case for Florida), then delisting is appropriate. It's not too hard maintaining these lists, so hopefully we can get a few interested editors working on that, since these lists are a valuable asset. As for the non-tropical storms project, I'm wondering if that project might be better being part of a broader WikiProject for all weather (as was discussed in the past). People into nor'easter articles might also be interested in floods and tropical cyclones, after all. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:37, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink mobile and Hurricanehink: Hi Hurricanehink. I know it mainly because of this and behavioral overlap. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:11, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Gotcha :/ Looks like someone else could use mentoring. Speaking of, how are you doing on Wikipedia these days? Do you have any question about editing, interacting with other users, good or featured articles, anything like that? Have you had any disputes with anyone other than HT 495? Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 19:14, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink mobile and Hurricanehink: Nah, luckily I haven't had any disputes with anyone else. I don't really count my interactions with HT495 as a "dispute" or a "grudge", though some of his rather pushy behavior does bug me a little. Anyway, I'm making some good headway in Beryl. Spanish sources do come in handy, and a big expansion happened for the Dominican Republic after I used three Spanish sources. I still have a few more to go, expect to see some more expansion in the coming days! I plan to GAN Beryl before New Years Day. Thanks for you help. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:19, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Draft article for Storm Products Not sure what else I can do. I cited numerous sources, as many as I could find that were neutral. It's difficult to write an article about a bowling ball manufacturer without citing sources from the bowling world. If this article does not meet qualifications, then I suggest the already-published bowling ball manufacturer articles for Ebonite International, Hammer Bowling, and Columbia Industries do not, either. There is no consistency in approval guidelines.

(talk page stalker) @HurricaneTracker495: NAC (and its associated template) is only for closures that can possibly result in administrator action (renames, moves, merges, etc.) It is not required for discussions like these, as any registered editor in good standing may close a discussion. Thanks. Chlod (say hi!) 14:44, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, but then Destroyeraa still has to put NAC on Talk: Hurricane Epsilon (2005)#merge. Also, neither one of us closed them, and tbh it’s not worth pestering everyone. I just hope they will follow in your footsteps :) HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 14:58, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
No, they don't. Quoting WP:MERGECLOSE: Any user may close the discussion and move forward with the merger if enough time (normally one week or more) has elapsed and there has been no discussion or if there is unanimous consent to merge. Admins are not needed. It didn't require administrator intervention either, as it wasn't a copy-paste merge (which would require WP:HISTMERGE). Perfectly valid closure. Chlod (say hi!) 15:31, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
tbh, there’s no reason why these discussions need to be formally closed. Only for merges, splits, RFCs, etc. when a NAC designation is required. Why waste time closing discussions? HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 15:18, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
Closing a discussion is required in order to signify that the consensus of a discussion has been determined and is final, such that the discussion no longer be dealt with in the future. In both discussions, a consensus was determined, and Destroyeraa closed the discussion reflecting said consensus. Specifically on Talk: Hurricane Epsilon (2005)#merge, there had been a long and stretched-out discussion which would have been hard to get the obvious consensus of, hence the need (or at least, the added bonus) for a closure. Same goes for this thread's namesake, which I initially thought would be an early-closed discussion due to the bolded Wait comments, but was actually on the affirmative after a good look at it. Moreover, that discussion would have been continued had Destroyeraa not made any indication that the changes were made. Closing discussions can help inform a user of the outcome of a discussion. If you have something against that, then you can talk about it on the right page.
I'd like to apologize to Destroyeraa for having to put this on your page. I would put this on HT495's talk page, however Darren-M has suggested that I lay off of that page for a while, which I am happy to respect. Chlod (say hi!) 15:31, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

I think that Shift674 meant the user templates in your user page: for example, if I did {{User interest weather}} and {{Template:User interest weather}}, the results would be the same in the following, respectively:

 This user is interested in

@Shift674: Yes, the Template namespace does not need to be included for most templates. For example, the article namespace is another hidden one: the article namespace. Technically speaking, the article namespace begins with a colon, like [[:Hurricane Beryl]]. Hurricane Beryl is the same as Hurricane Beryl, though we use the latter. I hope this helps. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:31, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello Destroyeraa, I noticed that you were involved in a discussion about an original draft for Tropical Storm Hernan back in August or September. Hi. I am sorry to see that you have semi-retired from Wikipedia. No offense, but may I ask why you have decided to do so? If you don't want to answer then that is fine, but I hope the best for you mate, and I hope things turn out alright. Thank you for all of the support and help that you have given me since I joined. Retirement

Hey Destroyeraa, I saw that you are now semi-retired from Wikipedia. I hope that this is just a Wiki-Break and that you can return to editing soon. I hope that you're doing ok.

(I noticed that you are also a student. Best of luck on your finals!) 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 21:30, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

@Poxy4, Weatherman27, and CodingCyclone: I know I caused some worry in my fellow editors. I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't have put up the semi-retired banner. What I mean is I am taking a week+ long wikibreak due to stress and some upcoming exams. Thank you for the kitten, Poxy, and thank you for the kind words and concern, Weatherman27 and CodingCyclone. Stay safe. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 21:43, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

@Destroyeraa: I understand, as I am a student as well. (I took a final yesterday and another today!) I'm glad that between your education and WP, your education comes first. I haven't been able to edit for a week or 2 now myself because of the studying and stuff as well as some personal matters. Like Weatherman27 said, just don't let it get to your head. It will only make it worse. And if you do get a bad score, don't stress too much. In 5-10 years, it won't matter. Just hang in there, and I speak for all of us when I say that we will be glad to see you here during winter break. Best of luck, 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 21:28, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
@CodingCyclone: Thank you for the kind words. I hope you did well on your finals! Stay safe! ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 00:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
I understand completely. Best of luck during school. I know how it feels, I have done plenty of exams :) Just stay calm, and focus. One of the things that I have always been taught is to be present-minded. Stress and anxiety are never good for a person, regardless of the situation, even if it can't be helped. But being present minded is good, because you think about now, rather than what might happen in the future. Yes, you have exams coming up. I understand that, but, at the same time, you will only continue to feel worse if you let it get to your head. Take a deep breathe, and focus on what is happening at present day. The exams will come when they do. Focus on subjects that you struggle on, and work on them thoroughly. Relax, and think about only the things that effect you at this very moment. I am sorry if that made no sense at all. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is never a good mindset to stress and worry about something that is in the future. You can prepare for it now, and feel better about it when the time comes, whenever that may be. Again, my apologies if this made no sense whatsoever. Just trying to give some advice that has helped me get through my exams in the past. 🌀Weatherman27🏈 (Chat|Edits|sandbox) 21:56, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
@Weatherman27: I read though it, and it makes perfect sense! Thank you for your advice and encouragement! I need to take some time off here to study and mentally prepare myself :). Have a wonderful rest of your week, and stay safe. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 22:02, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the actions on Winner[SomeAnimalName]99

Hey, thanks for filing the report on Winner[insert_animal_name_here]99. I was about to start one in response to his/her apparent block evasion, but you saved me the trouble. Thanks! I hope your exams go well and that you have a safe and happy holiday season!

And about that IP edit on the hurricane season: if you think it's an improvement, I'm fine with that. It didn't look that way to me (and I tend to react pretty quickly to people using Grammarly to make unexplained edits to WP pages, which is what it looked like), but I appreciate the extra pair of eyes. Cheers! — UncleBubba T @ C ) 19:02, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

@UncleBubba: No problem! The Winner[Insert_animal_name_here]99 person was becoming a nuisance, I'm sure, to numerous people here on Wikipedia. The IP associated with WinnerAnimal99 is being used to evade their block. Speaking of the IP edit on 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, you reminded me to go copy-edit the IP's revision/addition. Thanks for your well-wishes, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Cheers, ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:16, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Tropical Cyclone Barnstar
For all of your excellent contributions to tropical cyclone articles thus far, your GAs (in your first year!), your anti-vandalism work, and the other work you've done on tropical cyclone articles. You're an invaluable part of WPTC and even the Wikipedia Community, and I can't thank you enough for all that you've done. So I award you the second edition of the Tropical Cyclone Barnstar!   LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 12:52, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Special Barnstar
Well, the first barnstar just wasn't enough!   This is for being a superb editor and continuing to persevere, even after running into a number of hardships and difficult situations. I'm glad that you're still around. And thank you for being a good friend!   I wish I had been more active earlier this year so I could have personally welcomed you to Wikipedia and WPTC, but we can't change the past. Anyhow, I hope that you're finding yourself at home here, or at the very least, on WPTC. Don't let any of the dark things in life or any of the jerks get to you. You're far better than that. You've grown a lot as a person since you first started to edit here, and I'm glad to have been able to witness your journey. I look forward to seeing you some more around the place. I wish you the best of luck in your studies and achieving your goals in life. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 12:52, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Check-in

Hey there Destroyeraa. I wanted to check in and see how your edits were going, how your long-term plans were going, and if you had any projects lined up. Hope your exams went well. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:47, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

@Hurricanehink: Hey there, I'm doing well and I just finished my exams. How are you? I'm about finished with Beryl, which has 61 sources now. I'll be nominating that for GA soon. Also, do you mind answering some questions for the 45th edition of the Hurricane Herald? Thanks, ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:57, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
Good job with Beryl! The 2018 AHS will be done in no time. And sure, I'm always an open book, I'll help with the next newsletter. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: My next project will be Florence, which I will work on with LightandDark. He is an active vandal fighter and LTA crusher, and has written several articles (C- or B-class). He hasn't done any GA reviews yet, so Noah thought it would be a good idea for him to team up with me to do Florence. Thoughts? Also, thanks for the encouragement for Beryl. I nominated it for GA. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:10, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
Oof, now that's a big project! That will probably take you a few weeks, but it'll be a huge accomplishment when you're done. You may want to do a North Carolina sub-article (don't do both Carolinas in one, that wouldn't make sense), that way the state's $20+billion in damage doesn't overwhelm the rest of the article. I'd imagine there are lots of impacts all across the eastern US, probably random power outages, floods, and other impacts. I suggest you focus on area by area. If North Carolina is too overwhelming, then maybe start with South Carolina or Virginia. I've done that for a few big projects - do the easy areas first, so that by the time I have to do the worst-affected area, it's the only thing left to do. Good luck with the article, and hopefully have fun while you do it! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:19, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hurricanehink: Thanks! Well, I'm going to take a few days off WP to celebrate the holidays and spend time with family, then come back around New Years Day to finish up Beryl. Stay safe in your travels, and have a very happy and healthy holiday! ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:22, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
A few days off? Hah, I'll believe it when I see it! I feel like every year I end up doing a few edits on Christmas/Thanksgiving/New Years' in my downtime. Reverting vandalism beats awkward smalltalk with extended relatives. :P Happy holidays as well! Stay healthy and sane. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
I know that feeling all too well. :P Every time I tell myself that I'm finally going on a WikiBreak, it never lasts for long. (Unless school gets in the way.) With maybe an exception or two. I always come back during my breaks. Even when I'm on vacation (as long as I have internet access). ;D LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 22:59, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Just an FYI on the WPTC roster

FYI, we normally don't rotate users off the roster unless they haven't edited TC articles for a year or more. The only exceptions we make tend to be if they have gone completely inactive on-wiki for at least a few months, or if there are indications that they may have left WPTC for the time being. We usually wait for a 6-month absence in those cases. I don't know whose idea it was to rotate off users who haven't edited TC articles for a month or two, but it isn't right. But I'm not going to revert any of the changes, unless it involves users who were active on TC articles as recently as a month or two ago. Just wanted to let you know, since you're clearly someone who knows what they're doing. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 01:14, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

SPI Cases

Just a heads up, in future SPI cases, you'll have to present evidence if the behavioral connection is not so obvious that it's as plain as day. Now, for us, I know that the connections between Andrew5's IPs and his newest sock, HurricaneTracker495, are obvious, but this may not be the case for people who aren't familiar with the sockmaster. It's especially important to present evidence in any cases where a CU is likely to be declined (e.g. IP-only cases), and in any cases where the behavioral connections are not immediately obvious. Just keep this in mind next time. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 23:40, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

This is why I haven't been that active on there lately...taking some precautions. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 13:32, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Well, if you used a tough password, it shouldn't have been that easy (I have a password strength testing link near the top of my talk page). You could probably either try to force a hard reset (request a change in password), or request the deletion of that account. I have some ideas as to who may be responsible, but I'm not going to be bringing up any names on-wiki. And make sure that your other accounts are secure, at least. I remember that after an LTA tried cracking my account in the mass cyberattack in May 2018, I changed my password, and then, I went and hardened my password on most other websites where I was active.
