Apple games
Hey there! Thanks for working on Apple II game articles. :) I have started a number of them recently, if you have anything more to help build them: Winged Samurai, Air Traffic Controller, Global War, Three Mile Island, North Atlantic Convoy Raider, Milestones, Sumer, Torpedo Fire, Mission Escape!. BOZ (talk) 03:32, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
- I noticed you had a flurry of new articles! I'll see if I have any relevant info. Dgpop (talk) 13:59, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
- Great work, thanks! BOZ (talk) 04:30, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- Now if you really want a challenge, I also have added even more articles than that to the Category:TRS-80 games, which might be even harder to find more sources for you. If you want, I could pick out the ones that I created. BOZ (talk) 04:42, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Early game companies
I know you have done a bunch of work on early 80s games, and in particular I see that you have spent some time on Big Five Software and its games. I just started stubs for a couple of contemporary companies, Instant Software and Med Systems Software if you want to have a look at those and if there is anything you would want to do with them! BOZ (talk) 04:53, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the pointer! Good to see these companies getting articles. Dgpop (talk) 13:27, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
I'm definitely going to return to this topic in the near future. Meanwhile, are you able to find anything, source-wise, for any of the following games from that era?: Action & Bumping Games, Adventure in Time, Air Traffic Controller (1978 video game), Airmail Pilot, Android Nim, Ants!!!, Apocalypse: The Game of Nuclear Devastation, Atlantic Balloon Crossing, and Attack Force (video game) BOZ (talk) 11:43, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
OK! As promised, I am ready to revisit this topic. I have been working on adding all the reviews from The Space Gamer to various tabletop games. Starting in 1980, I estimate that about 15-20% of their reviews are for video games, and I have gotten through 1982 so far. I have had the opportunity to create articles on early games from major companies such as Global War (Muse); Slag, Project Omega, Stone of Sisyphys, and Missile Attack (Adventure International); The Warp Factor, Torpedo Fire, and The Shattered Alliance (SSI); Mission Escape! (CE Software/Startly); Computer Acquire, Conflict 2500, and Empire of the Overmind (Avalon Hill); Dragon's Eye, Jabbertalky, and Sorcerer of Siva (Automated Simulations/Epyx); Empire I: World Builders (Edu-Ware); and Theseus and the Minotaur (TSR), as well as many other games that I know you have already seen. :)
As you saw when I started this thread, I also created the articles for Instant Software and Med Systems Software, in both cases because I had already started several articles for games based on the TSG reviews, and because there were already existing articles for games from those companies. There are a number of companies that have one, two, or three games on my TSG list (Acorn Software, Synergistic Solar, Level-10, Cornsoft Group, and others), so I may look further into some of those later to see if it is worth creating articles for those companies as well, or I may wait until I make more progress on the reviews to see if there are more games for them.
The publisher I have seen most often on the TSG articles is probably The Software Exchange. However, searching on the internet it is hard to find much information on them. It was not even clear to me that they are a publisher in the traditional sense. I count 7 articles I created which list them as publisher, so I would like to create an article for TSE next.
Another one I have created several articles for is Creative Computing. That was a magazine that apparently also published some games as well. I am wondering if we should create a "Games" section for that article? I was not 100% sure that they were one in the same until I saw the cover for Air Traffic Controller and realized that it has the same typeface as the magazine did. Other game articles I created with CC as the publisher are Space Games-3, Space and Sport Games, Super Invasion / Spacewar, Milestones, and Action & Bumping Games, and who knows how many others there may be. BOZ (talk) 19:49, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- I went ahead and added Creative Computing (magazine)#Games yesterday, and would like to try to getting around to doing something with TSE probably tomorrow. :) BOZ (talk) 19:41, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- And there we go, I went ahead and took a stab at an article for TSE. :) BOZ (talk) 04:00, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
- I started a couple of new ones today that you might be interested in!: King Kong (1982 video game) and Riddle of the Sphinx (1982 video game). BOZ (talk) 05:35, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- I'm surprised those didn't have articles. I've got some info for both. Dgpop (talk) 14:59, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
I just started an article for the RapidFire line by SSI, in case you want to take a look at that one and see what you can add. I had also started The Shattered Alliance, Torpedo Fire, and The Warp Factor by SSI recently (and not-as-old Renegade: The Battle for Jacob's Star as well). BOZ (talk) 21:41, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
I tried making an article for Klondike Adventure[1], which is apparently a 1982 release by SoftSide's "Adventure of the Month Club", but the article was redirected to SoftSide before long. However, that article does not mention anything about an "Adventure of the Month Club" or the game Klondike Adventure (or, for that matter, Windsloe Mansion which I started at the same time under the same circumstances) so I am a bit mystified. Do you know of any sources that could be used to restore Klondike, and then improve Klondike and Windsloe, and if possible to get something on the Club in the SoftSide article? BOZ (talk) 16:37, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
- OK here we go, here is some information on this series: [2] I'm going to restore Klondike to do as you did with Windsloe, and try to add a bit more substance to it. If you see anything else you can add to those two games, or add to the SoftSide article about the series, that would be excellent. :) BOZ (talk) 04:38, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can find, but reliable sources for games of this era are tough to come by, as you know. Dgpop (talk) 18:05, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
I started a few more today, in case you are interested in any of these!: Galactic Adventures, PC Arcade, Reign of the Red Dragon. BOZ (talk) 13:05, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- On my list to check out--thanks for the tip! Dgpop (talk) 14:43, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- No problem, and one more today!: Voyager I (video game) BOZ (talk) 05:21, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Great, thanks again! Do you see anything that you could do for Crystal Caverns (video game)? BOZ (talk) 04:03, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- No problem, and one more today!: Voyager I (video game) BOZ (talk) 05:21, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- On my list to check out--thanks for the tip! Dgpop (talk) 14:43, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
I just started Wings Out of Shadow, this one looked like it has some potential! BOZ (talk) 21:50, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Do you see any useful sources that could be added to Space Battle or Time Trek? BOZ (talk) 21:02, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'll take a look! Dgpop (talk) 21:58, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) Do you see any useful sources for Pigskin, Star Cruiser, Space Games-3, or Tycoon? BOZ (talk) 21:45, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! :) I also started Avalon Hill games Jupiter Mission 1999 and Space Cowboy today if you are interested in those. BOZ (talk) 15:43, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- Nice! I do have some info on Jupiter Mission 1999. Well, both of them actually. They're written by the same person. Dgpop (talk) 17:42, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- I started a page for the Jupiter Mission 1999 sequel, Quest of the Space Beagle, so if you run across a Space Gamer review... 19:38, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
- Sweet! I might just, you never know. :) Meanwhile, do you see anything useful for Galactic Empires, The Mean Checkers Machine, or Winged Samurai? BOZ (talk) 23:36, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- I also have Lost Dutchman's Gold and Westward 1847 if you don't mind seeing what you can find for them? BOZ (talk) 17:55, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- Westward looks better, thanks! :) Do you see anything for North Atlantic Convoy Raider and Space and Sport Games? BOZ (talk) 15:11, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- On Westward, I found one unreliable source indicating that at least some of the BASIC source was lifted from The Oregon Trail, but nothing to confirm that. Interesting. I've heard of Convoy Raider, but not the other. Dgpop (talk) 17:01, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- OK yeah, I mean they could be connected that way, but don't use it if the source is questionable. BOZ (talk) 19:51, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- These might be a bit more of a longshot, but let me know if you see anything that can be used for Simutek Package One and Star Trek III.4. BOZ (talk) 16:43, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Great. :) Do you see anything more for Meta-Trek or Round the Horn? BOZ (talk) 16:16, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
- Wonderful! Thanks again, and have a great weekend. :) BOZ (talk) 19:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! I wish there were more sources for TSE games. Usually there's just the original SoftSide piece and some later ads for the TSE version. Reviews are hard to come by. Dgpop (talk) 16:18, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- I know, these older games are trickier for a variety of reasons, although it does seem like some publishers have better coverage than others. I've got a few more to ask about this time, but if you can find anything for Galactic Trader, Labyrinth, Parsector V, and Slag let me know. :) BOZ (talk) 16:32, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for those! Last ones I will ask about for this week, but do you see anything for Flying Saucers, Money Madness, Star Warrior, and Stellar Adventure? BOZ (talk) 17:27, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- I hit Flying Saucers a while back. I'll add the others to my list. Dgpop (talk) 04:25, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Hey man, although I have said it before plenty of times, first of all I want to say a huge thank you for everything you have done on the articles I started, and everything else you have done in general for old school video games. :) Rather than keep bugging you about this game or that game, I am going to just leave you to work on what you want to your heart's content. I have compiled a list of what I have seen so far from Space Gamer's reviews into this user page: User:BOZ/SGVG. I created between half and 2/3 of those pages, and added notes about the review to the already-existing articles. You can work on any of them as much as you want, and you can stop whenever you want and come back whenever you want. I will continue to update this user page whenever I have added new reviews, although I only have maybe a dozen issues or so to go through. You will continue to see my "thanks" whenever you add something to an article that I created. :) BOZ (talk) 03:23, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
- You've done a fantastic job digging up some lost relics from the early 8-bit computer era. Having all the SG reviews on one page will be useful--or at least fun--to check in on occasionally. Much appreciated! Dgpop (talk) 16:48, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- No problem! :) I took a break for a while but I'm back at it, and I started VODAC: The Alpine Encounter today. :) BOZ (talk) 22:12, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- By the way, I might have finally gone through all of the new articles I could possibly add based on reviews in Space Gamer (I suspect that VODAC was the last), although I could be wrong. Regardless, there aren't very many issues left for me to go through. :) BOZ (talk) 03:18, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

I lied! ;) I split out Roadwar Europa today. BOZ (talk) 18:24, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
In case you are interested in those, I started articles on video games based on Fighting Fantasy gamebooks: Seas of Blood, Rebel Planet, and Temple of Terror. BOZ (talk) 15:25, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
Early game companies, part 2
Hi! Hope you are doing well. :) I started Planetoids (video game) today if you have anything for that one. Just to let you know, I have been working my way through "Next Generation" magazine and expect to finish that in roughly a month, at which point I am going through Computer Gaming World starting back in the early 80s so that will be fun. :) BOZ (talk) 19:19, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- I do have some info on Planetoids which I hope to add soon. I expect CGW is going to be a gold mine of info! Dgpop (talk) 13:59, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Same here. :) If you have a bunch of retro 80s games on your watchlist, as I suspect you do, you will see my name popping up a lot there starting next month. ;) BOZ (talk) 21:40, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- Good deal! OK, so today I started a couple more obscure ones in case you have anything for them - Master Trader and Cosmic Trader. BOZ (talk) 20:27, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Well, those two might not last, but if you can find anything then that may help. BOZ (talk) 12:10, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- There probably isn't much that can be done for those two right now, so moving on... today I started Space Ace 21 and I found a review for Meteor Mission II[3] so hopefully more will turn up so the article can be restored at some point. :) BOZ (talk) 17:02, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Here's another Meteor Mission II review Dgpop (talk) 18:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Good catch - I have restored the article. :) BOZ (talk) 23:51, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- Here's another Meteor Mission II review Dgpop (talk) 18:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
I didn't start this one, but you might be interested in Stellar Crusade? BOZ (talk) 16:57, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- And a friend of mine just started Wrath of Denethenor. BOZ (talk) 05:31, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
OK! In case your watchlist did not already light up, I got started on CGW today. :) I am all done with Next Generation as a project as of late April, so my next new big project will be Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/Computer Gaming World. I will let you know about any new articles I create, in case you have any interest in adding to them; for today, that would be Mind Thrust and Reversal. BOZ (talk) 17:37, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- I started several new ones from issue #2, in case you have anything you want to add to them or the ones from the previous issue: Napoleon's Campaigns: 1813 & 1815, Galactic Chase, Operation Apocalypse, How to Master the Video Games, Webster's Microcomputer Buyer's Guide, Genetic Drift (video game), Red Alert (1981 video game), Wall Street (video game), Cartels & Cutthroat$, Escape from Arcturus, Blitzkrieg (1981 video game)*, The Battle of Shiloh (video game). BOZ (talk) 20:39, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for those helping bits. :) In particular for Shiloh, I am trying to see what I can find, although I think that the sources on the French version of the article may be enough to keep it from being deleted? Meanwhile, I started a few more today: Southern Command (video game), Blackjack Master, Bug Attack, Creature Venture, Zossed in Space. BOZ (talk) 19:41, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- No new articles today, I just wanted to let you know that in the last few days I have been very busy digging up reviews in old magazines and tossing them on articles (mostly ones I created) from the late 70s and early 80s, just to get some improvement on their sourcing for later. :) (By the way, if you see me posting any redlinks on your talk page, those are articles I have moved to Draft). BOZ (talk) 02:21, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- And just one new one today, Lunar Lander (1980 video game) by Adventure International. BOZ (talk) 18:25, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update! I'm looking at all of these when I get the chance. Cartels & Cutthroats is important simply because of who designed it. Also, I just added Track Attack which you may run across in some of the magazines you're going through. Dgpop (talk) 21:21, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome, great work on that and on general cleanup on these. :) I started several new ones today: Computer Stocks & Bonds, Conglomerates Collide, Controller (video game), Pursuit of the Graf Spee (video game), The Captain 80 Book of BASIC Adventures, Horse Racing Classic, Dnieper River Line, Casino (1982 video game), Bez-MX, Guns of Fort Defiance, Tsunami (video game), Micro Golf. BOZ (talk) 20:34, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- By the way, in searching last night I found a couple of gems for this era. First of all, near the end of its run Softalk published a massive two-part index of all the games they reviewed, which is especially helpful since the page formatting on their reviews pages makes it difficult to figure out which games they were reviewing! pt 1: [4] and pt 2: [5] And possibly even better, I found this 1984 Software Encyclopedia from Electronic Games which includes commentary and ratings for some of them: [6] BOZ (talk) 13:34, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Found another good one, reprints of presumably all of the reviews from 80 Micro: [7] BOZ (talk) 03:04, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nice! I've run across the EG Software Encyclopedia, but not the others. There's also the huge Addison Wesley Book of Atari Software 1984, plus an Apple version, and several different years as well. The one I linked to has 400 pages of reviews of varying length with ratings. Dgpop (talk) 14:19, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, nice! That's got all sorts of stuff that I can and will use. :) BOZ (talk) 15:14, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- By the way, User:BOZ/Early computer game reviews is a work in progress that I thought would be better than looking through the same magazines over and over again, and once I'm done I can share it with others who would benefit from it. :) BOZ (talk) 17:21, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

A few new game articles today, and that will probably be all from me for the week: Star Blazer (video game), Guadalcanal Campaign (video game), Galactic Gladiators, The Road to Gettysburg, The Demon's Forge, Battle Trek. BOZ (talk) 18:47, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hope you had a good weekend! :) I'm back at it today, and started Hockey (1981 video game), Soccer (1982 video game), Crazy Mazey, Lazer Maze, Seafox (video game), Computer Foreign Exchange in case you have anything you want to add to any of those. BOZ (talk) 17:50, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- Wow, these magazines are turning up some obscurities! I can add to a few of these. Dgpop (talk) 18:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sweet. :) I didn't have a review for Draft:Bandits (video game) in CGW yet, but I restored the draft for now after locating another review online. BOZ (talk) 20:10, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- I have also been working on reviews from British tabletop game magazine White Dwarf, and so far they have only dabbled lightly in video games, but that did bring me to start an article for this interesting game: Battle 1917. BOZ (talk) 21:56, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- I started a bunch today, and I am relaxing the rest of the week as a result - also considering taking a break from this for next week as well. :) Today, I created: S. E. U. I. S., Armor Assault, Protector II, Claim Jumper (video game), Tax Dodge (video game), Time Runner (video game), Mad Mines, The Black Hole (video game), Babel Terror, Demon Seed (video game), Jovian (video game), Cyborg (video game), Flockland Island Crisis, Probe One: The Transmitter, Atari Games & Recreations, Valley of the Kings (video game). BOZ (talk) 20:59, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Just one new one today, and it will probably be a light week, UK game Psytron. BOZ (talk) 21:51, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- Wow, these magazines are turning up some obscurities! I can add to a few of these. Dgpop (talk) 18:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know that one; I'll take a look. I added Baja Buggies earlier in the week. Dgpop (talk) 14:07, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm back at it this week and next week, but will probably (mostly or entirely) take a week off the following week. :) Today, I started these: PlatterMania, Monster Maze, Millionaire: The Stock Market Simulation, Championship Blackjack, Microbe: The Anatomical Adventure, Call to Arms (1982 video game), Super Taxman 2, Battle for Normandy (video game). BOZ (talk) 19:22, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- Another game from White Dwarf magazine, I think it may be a game from the UK so not sure how much you have for those: The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World (video game). BOZ (talk) 18:54, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- I had a pretty good day today! This time I started Close Assault, Computer Ambush, Chess 7.0, Twerps (video game), Sherwood Forest (video game), Computer Facts in Five, The Alien (video game), Old Ironsides (video game), The Blade of Blackpoole. BOZ (talk) 20:02, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- I've been taking it easier on edits this week, but these are all good to look at. Computer Ambush is interesting, because there was an earlier version in 1982 (which started on the Apple II), then a 1984 update which was published for the Atari 8-bit first. Dgpop (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- OK, cool, gotcha. :) This is all for this week, and next week will almost certainly be lighter than this week: Fore! (video game), Championship Golf, Golf Challenge (video game), Hi-Res Computer Golf 2, Clipper (video game). BOZ (talk) 18:51, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know if you want me to bother to keep mentioning these UK games that I start based on White Dwarf reviews, but just in case, today I started The Secret River and The Wizard's Citadel. I know that there are British gaming magazines that I am going to have to go through at some point to strengthen these up too. :) BOZ (talk) 19:10, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Definitely a lighter week. :) Today, I started only Combat Leader and Delta Squadron (video game). BOZ (talk) 18:05, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- I like seeing all of the new additions in one place (whether here or somewhere else), because you add more in a month than I have ever :) I am behind on keeping up with them all, but some catch my eye. Dgpop (talk) 18:29, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds good. :) Well this was indeed a lighter week than last week, and next week I will be doing few or no new articles, so that will give you some time. ;) Meanwhile, today I started: Operation Whirlwind (video game), Chennault's Flying Tigers, Space Station Zulu, Fortress (1983 video game), Secret Agent: Mission One. BOZ (talk) 18:17, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Jumping around just a little, today I started The Third Courier. :) BOZ (talk) 00:29, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- This game is interesting because there appear to be two developers. Several sources say Synergistic Software but for at least the Atari ST version there's a big "Designed by Manley & Associates" logo on the back." Dgpop (talk) 01:45, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Back at it today with CGW! :) Today, I started Grey Seas, Grey Skies, Fall Gelb: The Fall of France, Ringside Seat, Tournament Golf, Professional Tour Golf, Geopolitique 1990, Starbowl Football. BOZ (talk) 20:36, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not too many new ones today: Carrier Force, Parthian Kings, Conquering Worlds. BOZ (talk) 18:02, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Another week done and over with! Today, I started Tycoon: The Commodity Market Simulation, Baron: The Real Estate Simulation, Chancellor Of The Exchequer (video game), Under Southern Skies (video game), Movie Maker (Reston Publishing), Planetmaster. BOZ (talk) 18:29, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for Movie Maker! That's been on my list for a while, and I've got a bunch of info about it. Will check the others out, too. Dgpop (talk) 19:16, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome, no problem. :) BOZ (talk) 20:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just two today: Fifth Eskadra (video game), Fighter Command: The Battle of Britain. Also, I have something really cool that I want to share later today; will post more then. :) BOZ (talk) 17:26, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- And here it is - I mentioned User:BOZ/Early computer game reviews previously, but I am more or less done with it now, so that should prove useful if you need more reviews for games. :) BOZ (talk) 22:10, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- That is amazing! How much work did that take?! I've got it bookmarked and expect to use it often. Dgpop (talk) 02:56, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- LOL thanks, well... took about 6 weeks or so to put it together, and quite a few hours. :) Use it in good health! BOZ (talk) 03:43, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- A few more today - Spare Change (video game), Rails West!, Road to Moscow, Lordlings of Yore - and that is all for this week. More next week, of course. :) BOZ (talk) 17:30, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

- Awesome, no problem. :) BOZ (talk) 20:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for Movie Maker! That's been on my list for a while, and I've got a bunch of info about it. Will check the others out, too. Dgpop (talk) 19:16, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Should be a fun week, if I don't pass out from the heat. :) Today, I started: Panzer-Jagd, After Pearl, Dreadnoughts (1984 video game), Breakthrough in the Ardennes. BOZ (talk) 18:00, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- A few more new ones today: Gulf Strike (video game), Competition Karate, Clear for Action, 3 in 1 College & Pro Football, Relax, How About A Nice Game of Chess? BOZ (talk) 18:20, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- A bunch of new articles today, but next week should be lighter than this week: The Battle of Chickamauga (video game), Imperium Galactum, Reforger '88, Final Four College Basketball, Basketball: The Pro Game, Video Stock Market, Berserker Raids, Timeship (video game), Squire: The Financial Planning Simulation, Napoleon at Waterloo. BOZ (talk) 19:27, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Yep, like I figured, definitely a lighter week this week - just three new ones today: Operation Market Garden (video game), The Railroad Works, Six-Gun Shootout. BOZ (talk) 17:43, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, just wondering if you have any ideas about what other older computer magazines covered video games? As a result of the work I mentioned to you a few weeks ago, those pages are now listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library#Non-video game oriented / general computing magazines. Are there any missing ones that you can think of? I had a couple of Commodore magazines that I was going to start looking into next. BOZ (talk) 04:25, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- Two that haven't been dug into much but are at archive.org are Video Games and Joystik, both circa 1983-4. ANALOG Computing has a lot of Atari 8-bit reviews. Nibble (magazine) for Apple II. Dgpop (talk) 17:03, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- Cool, I will see what I can do with those. :) BOZ (talk) 22:46, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- I took up one of your suggestions so far!: Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/ANALOG Computing. BOZ (talk) 05:37, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

- Just a few more for this week!: Crusade in Europe (video game), Decision in the Desert, Golan Front, Star Crystal (video game), Speculator (video game). BOZ (talk) 18:22, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- This should be a light week, today I started just Golden Oldies: Volume 1 - Computer Software Classics and At the Gates of Moscow 1941. BOZ (talk) 17:47, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- I remember Golden Oldies! It was either from EA or republished by EA. And there wasn't a Volume 2, as far as I'm aware. Dgpop (talk) 18:26, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- From what I have seen, it looks like EA was the publisher. :) BOZ (talk) 19:45, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- I remember Golden Oldies! It was either from EA or republished by EA. And there wasn't a Volume 2, as far as I'm aware. Dgpop (talk) 18:26, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- And a light week indeed, just one new one today, and it's not even a game: Flexidraw. BOZ (talk) 17:15, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Several new ones today: U.S.A.A.F. - United States Army Air Force, Seventh Fleet (video game), Battle of Antietam (video game), Paul Whitehead Teaches Chess, Computer Title Bout, Pro Boxing (video game), Black Belt (1984 video game). BOZ (talk) 18:33, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- Just two more today to end the week!: Transylvania (video game), Nam (1986 video game). BOZ (talk) 18:05, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Big day today! I started Battle Group (video game), Mech Brigade, Battle of the Atlantic: The Ocean Lifeline, Golf's Best: St. Andrews - The Home of Golf, Hole-In-One Golf (1986 video game), Countdown to Shutdown, Clash of Wills, Adventures in Flesh, The Black Death, and I was able to get Make Millions restored after AFD. :) BOZ (talk) 19:06, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good stuff! I've been puzzling over Berserker Raids from an earlier update. There's strong evidence that the Apple II version was first and published in 1983, but Moby and gb64 have a Commodore 64 version from 1982, which doesn't line up. Hmmmm. Dgpop (talk) 01:48, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- If you spot a contemporary source, that may help narrow it down? BOZ (talk) 02:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- A few more today, and that's it for this week: American Dream: The Business Management Simulation, Football (1986 video game), Orbiter (1986 video game), Microsoft Flight Simulator (1986 video game). BOZ (talk) 18:19, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

- Wow, so obscure; I've never heard of many of these, but I'll keep an eye out. One addition from me: A.E. Dgpop (talk) 01:03, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Cool yes, I found several additional reviews for that game. :) Meanwhile, only one new one for this week!: Radio Baseball. BOZ (talk) 17:36, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- And, only two new ones so far to start this week!: Major Motion, Warship (video game). BOZ (talk) 20:50, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Several new ones to finish off the week: Equestrian Showjumper, Beach Blanket Volleyball, Space M+A+X, Blue Powder Grey Smoke, Strategic Conquest Plus. BOZ (talk) 19:01, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- On the TRS-80 front, I wanted to let you know that I have been working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/The Rainbow lately. Most of those games do not have articles, and most of the companies that produced them do not have articles either; I definitely had a higher success rate when working on US-80 and US Micro! BOZ (talk) 17:55, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- There are a LOT of obscure games for the CoCo. Tandy Color Computer Games is the most comprehensive resource I've found, with a page per game. Dgpop (talk) 18:44, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- Wow, so obscure; I've never heard of many of these, but I'll keep an eye out. One addition from me: A.E. Dgpop (talk) 01:03, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Several new ones today, focusing mostly on baseball and sailboats!: Pro Manager, Pure-Stat Baseball, Baseball Fanatic, The Official America's Cup Sailing Simulation, Dolphin Sailing System. BOZ (talk) 18:35, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- Another week done, today only two new ones: The Stalingrad Campaign, Full Count Baseball. BOZ (talk) 17:30, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- Starting off this week, more new articles on sports games: Pursue the Pennant (video game), World Class Leader Board, Hoops (1986 video game). BOZ (talk) 18:04, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- Several new ones today to finish off the week, mostly more wargames: Russia: The Great War in the East 1941-1945, Rommel at Gazala, Guderian (video game), Rebel Charge at Chickamauga, Street Sports Baseball. BOZ (talk) 17:43, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- Just a couple new ones today, Napoleon in Russia: Borodino 1812, Deep Space: Operation Copernicus. BOZ (talk) 18:57, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- A big batch today to finish the week, mostly football games: GFL Championship Football, Gridiron!, Head Coach (video game), Mac Pro Football, Super Bowl Sunday (video game), Instant Replay (video game), Computer Quarterback, The Spy's Adventures in North America, The Spy's Adventures in Europe. BOZ (talk) 20:02, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- I don't have a great knowledge of football or wargames, so many of these are new to me. Computer Quarterback is historically important because of who designed it. I'll see if I can find anything on the others. Dgpop (talk) 04:12, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
Several new ones today: Shiloh: Grant's Trial in the West, Ralph Bosson's High Seas, Darkhorn: Realm of the Warlords, Inside Trader: The Authentic Stock Trading Game, BlackJack Academy. BOZ (talk) 19:35, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- And several helicotper sims today and one shuttle: Infiltrator II, Tomahawk (video game), Thunderchopper, Sierra's 3-D Helicopter Simulator, Super Huey UH-IX, Apollo 18: Mission to the Moon. BOZ (talk) 19:02, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Just one new one today: Magnetron (video game). BOZ (talk) 19:12, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Swinging the other way to end the week, several new ones, mostly sports games: Star Rank Boxing II, Super Cycle, Superbike Challenge, Shirley Muldowney's Top Fuel Challenge, Top Fuel Eliminator, Steve Garvey vs. Jose Canseco in Grand Slam Baseball, Sons of Liberty (video game). BOZ (talk) 20:05, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, hey! I did two issues today, but that is all for this week, and today I started these: Echelon (1987 video game), Ports of Call (video game) (was deleted, but I restored it), Long Lance: A Computer Game of Tactical Naval Combat in the South Pacific, Return to Atlantis (video game), Twilight's Ransom. BOZ (talk) 19:32, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- I again did two issues today, mostly because there were fewer reviews and most were already present in the article, but I started Zaxxon 3D and The Seven Spirits of Ra. BOZ (talk) 18:17, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- That's quite the pair of games! The box says Zaxxon 3-D, but curiously the title screen omits the hyphen. I haven't looked at any reviews yet. Dgpop (talk) 16:22, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Then again, I did just one issue today, and started several new ones: Romance of the Three Kingdoms (video game), President Elect: 1988 Edition, Campaign Promises, On the Campaign Trail, Rommel: Battles for North Africa. BOZ (talk) 18:53, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Went back to breezing through them, and today I managed three issues - started a few each one, but almost all of the already-existing articles had their reviews, so this was no problem: Star Trek: First Contact (video game), Knight Games, Paladin (video game), First Expedition, Steel Thunder, Stealth Mission, Decisive Battles of the American Civil War, Vol. 2. BOZ (talk) 19:52, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Down to just one issue today, I started several: Alien Mind, Ocean Ranger (video game), MSFL Pro League Football, Pro Football Simulator, Visions of Aftermath: The Boomtown. BOZ (talk) 18:43, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- I'm probably taking a lengthy break from working on video game articles, so I won't be bugging you for a while. :) Meanwhile, hey, anything above that you want to do anything you want to do with, be my guest. :) BOZ (talk) 01:22, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
- I appreciate you getting all these articles added! If I run across more info, I'll add it. Dgpop (talk) 16:27, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Early game companies, part 3
In case your watchlist has not been lighting up lately with my edits for you to figure it out, I will let you know that while I am on an extended break from working on CGW, I have been going back through my CGW-related creations and going through archive.org to find additional reviews and articles to make sure that I can prove as many of these meet the GNG as I can, and also to find sources that can be used to build the articles. :) The very good bright side is that somewhere around 90% of them so far have at least met the GNG if not better, and I am sure I will find more for most of the rest of those! After that, I am planning to go though the Reference Library pages I created and finding all the redlinked games, and then seeing which ones of those also meet the GNG to make a list of potential future articles! After that, I think I will resume working on CGW, so that will probably be sometime in February or March, possibly April. :) BOZ (talk) 23:50, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know if you got my ping, but that thread I put on the VG project talk page yesterday has a few dozen redlinked retro games with multiple reviews in case you see anything there you wanted to build. :) BOZ (talk) 21:43, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Hey hey, I'm back at it starting this week. :) Today, I started Quest Adventure. BOZ (talk) 02:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- A few new ones today: Decisive Battles of the American Civil War, Vol. 3, In Harm's Way (video game), Road Raider, Heavy Metal (1988 video game). BOZ (talk) 02:32, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- An interesting batch of 1988 games! Not sure if I have anything for them, but maybe! Dgpop (talk) 18:41, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Hey there! :) I don't know if you have anything for these video game related books, but a while ago I started The Captain 80 Book of BASIC Adventures and Atari Games & Recreations, and brought back the redirected The King's Quest Companion. BOZ (talk) 15:13, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- Wow, so so many additions! Not sure what I've got, but I'll take a look. Dgpop (talk) 20:45, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
A kitten for you!
Dgpop, you are one of the few other Wikipedians that I ever see using the 'thank' button. Whenever I get this, I am compelled to acknowledge this, by searching out such a user's history and collaboratin'. Guess what, your user page shows that you started the article for my first ever word processor that got me writing back in fifth grade. I got Cut & Paste on my first computer, Atari 800xl, solely to write a little book about Nintendo to enter a child talent search contest. I didn't win but my family did get a NES for Christmas as a result of me going along with the contest. I had never looked up that app until now, so I'm glad to be able to learn and contribute about it. Thank you so much for being kewl. You can always email me or come to IRC if you wanna do more. I know you have done things with Apple II history, which I'm also all about because my second computer is a IIgs. Check out the thing I submitted about a super excellent source of 8-bit computer reviews.
— Smuckola(talk) 05:29, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Cut & Paste is one of those fun oddities. Who would have expected productivity software from EA? I love adding articles for things like that, when I can find them. I thought I knew all of the old computer magazines, but Computer Entertainer is new to me--checking it out. Have a good day! Dgpop (talk) 00:37, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
- Did you use Cut & Paste in the 80s or how did you hear about it? Computer Entertainer is *sublime*, and those guys attended CES. So many platforms, so much news and reviews. — Smuckola(talk) 08:20, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- My parents bought an Atari 800, and I read magazines like Compute! cover to cover. I didn't use Cut & Paste, but I had The First XLEnt Word Processor. Dgpop (talk) 01:03, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- What a mouthful. I'd never heard of it. Wow, did you do all your homework with it? I didn't have a printer until ImageWriter II. Mixing a text and graphics document, wow. It sounds gr8. — Smuckola(talk) 08:35, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- My dad's Apple II was so much better for word processing, with two disk drives, a dedicated monitor instead of a TV, and AppleWorks. First XLEnt was decent enough, but it was kind of a backup for when the Apple was occupied. Dgpop (talk) 16:13, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
A cupcake for you!
Thanks for editing Albert Vaguet! Poydoo (talk) 12:24, 19 September 2019 (UTC) |
any suggestions to improve that article? Smlck19 (talk) 02:33, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- The examples confuse things. BASIC can be small--mostly because it was often implemented for small systems--but can also be large. Ditto for Lisp (Common Lisp is a big system). Brainfuck is more of a novelty than a useful language. The ones that best fit the definition are scripting languages or embeddable scripting languages, which makes me think there's overlap between those categories. Dgpop (talk) 16:34, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- So, should the list be turned into descriptions of some good examples of lightweight programming language and how/why the fit the criteria well? I find it very hard to find good citations, especially for that "easy to implement" part. Also thinking about creating more sections. I have not seen any lightweight compiled programming language, except V. Smlck19 (talk) 16:18, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- I can imagine citations are difficult to find, and this may be a sign. But, yes, I'd only list solid examples of languages that are small enough for someone to implement and that have actual uses, possibly as embedded scripting languages. Lua, Scheme, and Forth, plus maybe some of the Lua-like languages like Squirrel and Io. But then is this about embedded languages? Dgpop (talk) 03:15, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
- "actual uses", well, that is not strictly required. The solid definition (that I do not dare to touch) says, those are easy to implement (toy/esoteric), low memory footprint (embeddable), and/or minimalist syntax/features (simple). I am thinking about dc, the desktop calculator. Anyway, if you are interested, we can continue in the talk page of that article. Smlck19 (talk) 16:05, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

TI-99/4A
Hey there! Thanks for moving my screenshot to a better place on the page. I'm awful at inserting images in Wikipedia articles, I seem to never do it correctly. I'm planning on doing a bit of work on that page, as well as some related technology pages like Intel 8080 and other older computers, where additions/sources etc are needed. Also, trying to make some wikipedia editor friends who are interested in the same things so I can bounce ideas/etc off of them :) Do you own a TI-99/4A? I got one over xmas last year and have played about with it quite a lot! MrAureliusRTalk! 03:46, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi! No, I don't own a 99/4A, but I've used them and played games on them. I've been trying to fix some of the disorganized articles on great old, historically important home computers: TRS-80 Color Computer, Atari 8-bit family, etc. Dgpop (talk) 01:24, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Kangaroo (video game)
I just learned that you removed a DP review from Kangaroo (video game). What's wrong with it? 172.250.44.165 (talk) 21:57, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, 172.250.44.165. Reviews not contemporaneous with a game's release are fairly meaningless unless there's a useful insight or historical context. In this case the extent of the quote was "Four reviewers in a 1997 issue of Digital Press gave the Atari 5200 version 5, 7, 8, and 5 (all out of 10)." There's nothing useful there to that. What does a 5/10 from a retrogaming newsletter mean? Dgpop (talk) 01:26, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Edit to Roblox
Hey Dgpop! I just figured I'd discuss your recent edit to Roblox. Could you explain why you did what you did? I was tempted to revert it because I think "PC" is meant to include both Windows and macOS, however PC is technically not a platform itself so I decided to discuss it with you instead. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 01:16, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
Sure. In the infobox, "PC" is not one of the Platform(s), but it was listed under "Release". I changed the latter to Windows, because "PC" is often misinterpreted. If the macOS version has the same release date, then it should be "Windows, macOS". Dgpop (talk) 17:49, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
- Alright sounds good. Thanks for explaining your edit! I'll check to see if they have the same release date. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:50, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

I have a naughty gift for such a good kid. Just what you always wanted, a crusty ol dead tree! It's real, it's real! I saw that you had removed its unverifiability so I went to WP:LIBRARY to search my subscription setup, fail, and then place a request from someone who has a superior institutional subscription to EBSCO somehow. This article is a good source for several articles about the companies, machines, and games. — Smuckola(talk) 03:53, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Nice! So many good tidbits are hidden away in magazines that haven't been digitized yet. Dgpop (talk) 16:24, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers & New Orleans Saints Rivalry
Thanks for cleaning the wording of the Bucs-Saints rivalry look much better. Also, if there can do to make the wording better let me know. One last thing, as for why it came off as awkward, I do have a neurological disorder and hopefully, it explains why the wording came off as awkward. That still hasn't stopped me from doing research and contributing to this great website. DerpderpX (talk) 15:46, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for contributing! I stomp out uses of "It should be noted that" when I find them. Dgpop (talk) 16:45, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Sega Genesis
Hey, I say your edit at Gunstar Heroes, and I just wanted to let you know that at first introduction in an article, Sega Genesis should be written out in full. That is the proper name of the console. Dreamcast is just Dreamcast, Game Gear is Game Gear, but Sega Genesis is Sega Genesis. Same for Nintendo Switch. TarkusABtalk/contrib 05:42, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. It felt redundant saying "Sega" and then "Sega Genesis" right after, but makes sense. Dgpop (talk) 16:59, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Run and gun video game
Hey! I don't understand this edit. Both variants seem to point to the same thing, the new versions seems to only be longer and has no Rcats. What impact does this link update have? Regards, IceWelder [✉] 16:52, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi IceWelder. "Run and gun" has been a mess with a bunch of variants, like "Run and gun shooter", which is redundant. I've been trying to clean that up, and may have been overzealous in some cases. "Run and gun video game" is the most obvious link, as opposed to constantly renaming "Run and gun game" to "Run and gun" followed by a link to "video game". Also, there are two sports meanings for "run and gun". Dgpop (talk) 20:44, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
With regard to this edit: If this development kit indeed has nothing to do with homebrew development, shouldn't you move that info out of the section "homebrew development"? Martin IIIa (talk) 14:42, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- Good point! It feels like there's nothing meaningful in that section. All consoles have SDKs, but they are rarely mentioned, and there are no reference for homebrew games. Dgpop (talk) 01:18, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Star Raiders release
Hi Dgpop! Thanks for doing some copy-editing. I posted a comment on the talk page about the release date of Star Raiders. It is a complicated issue, so any suggestions or comments could help us come to some sort of solution. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:25, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
I agree with your recent removal as well as the fact some of it is unsourced anyway. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:53, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I was trying to address the 2018 "too long" template, so I chopped out the strategy guide and mathematical games about some of the theoretical minimum scores. Dgpop (talk) 20:59, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
Andy Summers
I saw that you added a template to the Andy Summers article about the lede being too short. Can you show me an article with a lede that you consider well done? Thanks.~ Vmavanti (talk) 20:26, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
Here's one: Neil Peart. The Summers overview says he was in The Police, but (for example) doesn't mention that he's a founding member, played on all their albums, composed music, and won several Grammy Awards. It doesn't give an overall picture of his accomplishments and strengths. (To be fair, there are quite a few popular musician articles in the same boat.) Dgpop (talk) 21:24, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
