edit"Simple" references to Tim Hortons Brier Media Guide
editExcuse me but... Is it a "good style of Wiki references"? I can't simply find "2017 Tim Hortons Brier Media Guide: Previous Rosters" in Google - and I can't (this way) verify information about "Patrick C. Perroud" (and more identical editions today by you) with such references (plain "title" text - not a link to). -- Alexey Gustow (talk) 15:59, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
editHello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!
2020 Team Nunavut
editIn the history of the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Heats page, on the discussion of Team Nunavut, you noted the official website only states the club name and not the team members. If you are using a computer to view the website you need to scroll over the team name/club to reveal the listed team members. On a mobile/tablet webpage the team is listed automatically without having to scroll or click. The team information is there. Interested in making a map of the Province of Canada?
editHi Earl Andrew, I've noticed that you have a talent for making maps. Would you be interested in making a map of the Province of Canada? There doesn't seem to be a wiki-friendly map. Something like the one in the Canadian Encyclopedia article on Canada East would be great! Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 17:10, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
- What sort of map did you have in mind?-- Earl Andrew - talk 23:41, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
- Just one showing the location of the Province and its boundaries. There is an old Victorian era map on the article page, but it's rather ornate and not easily understood unless you expand on it. Something like the map in the Canadian Encyclopedia, or the series of maps that show the territorial evolution of Canada (although I don't think it would need to show all of modern Canada, like those ones do, just the Province, putting it in context near the Maririmes and the US, Great Lakes, etc. As the Canadian Enclopedia map shows, the boundaries were not well-determined. Moving to Draft
editHello. I tried to add articles about "ancient" European championships - but today Wiki-editor Boleyn again moved 1989 European Curling Championships to draft (because "only one source" - to WCF) (look here). Well OK - and I will not try to create such "ancient" articles in future, maybe Boleyn will do that. It's enough for me - I'm "old man" with bad health (and "near to very bad" eyes for today) and haven't much money and much time for rest of my life to create something that any "clearence fighter" easy destroy. -- Alexey Gustow (talk) 10:42, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Template "Curlingzone" created
editHello! I created template {{Curlingzone}} (by "decreasing" of "WorldCurlingTour" template) for using after {{Sports links}} (it shows all sports-related links from Wikidata: WCF, IOC, TemUSA and many-many other; not "ideal" but useful thing; I don't know who created and modified it) in "External links" section - because link to WCT-player-Id already lists by "Sports links" template, but not second link to Curlingzone site. Age limit on provincial Scotties?
editThere's a sentence in Rachel Homan's article that seems to imply that you have to (or had to, at the time) be out of juniors to enter the provincial Scotties: "Prior to graduating from juniors in 2010, Homan's junior team was too young to participate in Scotties Tournament of Hearts playdowns..." I have no idea if this is true, but I've been able to find references for everything else in the juniors section, so I thought I'd ask in case you know. If not, I can remove it; it's not extremely significant. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 00:02, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I think I technically have to find a source from her junior times, but it’s a good start! Allthegoldmedals (talk) 12:23, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
The article Wendy Stewart has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Table formatting
editI've started working on some fixes from the GA review for Rachel Homan, and there are some comments about bolding and linking in the tables. I know I've just been doing tables as they've been done for many other curlers' articles, and I don't know a ton about wikitables, so I was wondering if you could take a look and see what should be done? Allthegoldmedals (talk) 16:34, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yep, I noticed that the bolded tournaments in the stats table were the ones with totals at the bottom. I think that does make sense; I'll clarify, though. I understood the same about bolding in the team table, so I'll clarify if that's alright as well, and if not, we can change that. As to overlinking, I agree with you, although I guess it's not a huge deal to find a previous link (that's what you have to do when reading the article, anyway). I think I'll probably remove duplicate links when I have time. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 18:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Upon reading MOS:BOLD, I've realized that bold isn't supposed to be used for emphasis, but italics is. I suppose we should change the bolding in the stats and team tables to be italics? Allthegoldmedals (talk) 18:42, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Re: aesthetics, I entirely agree. I think un-bolding the team table makes sense for now though, since she was a skip every year so it's not too difficult to find, but italics in the stats table would look really strange. I'll clarify. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 20:50, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- I just changed the team tables to regular wikitables and removed bolding because those were requests from the reviewer. I thought the way you had it before looked really nice, but I guess accessibility over aesthetics. I had used your format for a bunch of other stats tables for other curlers so I might change those after this review. I thought I'd let you know, though, because it does look a bit different now. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 17:35, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

COVID-19 pandemic in the Regional Municipality of Peel
editHi Earl, thank you for adding the Regional Municipality of Peel category into the "COVID-19 pandemic in the Regional Municipality of Peel" main article. I was about to add Regional Municipality of Peel category into the COVID-19 pandemic in the Regional Municipality of Peel main article when it was created. I came to the "COVID-19 pandemic in the Regional Municipality of Peel" main article when it was created I saw the Regional Municipality of Peel category into the related main article. Use Template Cite cgndb at List of Lakes of Ontario
editDear Earl, Is there a reason you are using a URL as a reference for various lake names you have added at List of lakes of Ontario? Might you consider using the {{Cite cgndb}} template with the five-letter "Key" instead? Thinking that the template can be updated if the CGNDB folks change their URL nomenclature, which has happened before. Also, you've recently added Pot Lake to the list; however, I count seven lakes by that name in Ontario when doing a name search at the CGNDB site. Sincerely, --papageno (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Moving lake articles to new article names - consider updating disambiguation page
editEarl, you've recently moved a number of lakes named "Black Lake" in Ontario from their previous title to new titles based on their municipal location. Which is just fine. However, their names and links on the disambiguation page for the main title Black Lake remained the old ones. I wonder if you would consider in such cases also updating the links on the disambiguation page? Each Black Lake (TEXT) article you moved had an {{Otherplaces}} template or similar giving "For other places with the same name, see Black Lake" at the top of the article, a tip that there was a disambiguation page in play. Hope you take this suggestion in the friendly spirit with which it is intended. Regards, --papageno (talk) 03:23, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
Cite cgndb template - lists of lakes of Ontario
editEarl, sorry for posting twice so quickly. 1. (a) In case you weren't familiar with it, I thought I would mention the {{cite cgndb}} template, which allows one to use the Geographical Names Board of Canada five letter key of a particular geographical feature in a citation template. One example of its use is at Black Lake (Dysart et al). (b) In case useful, another excellent Ontario geo resources is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Official Geographic Names map viewer at ONGNIS map Viewer, which uses the Ontario government's common ESRI-based geospatial map system. One can enter lakes, rivers, towns, hamlets, etc. in the search field in the upper right. The CGNDB key is among the data that will come up for an item. The only hitch: I'm not familiar with a way to use a URL to get to a specific feature on the map. 2. Thanks for putting in a lot of effort to create lists of all the lakes of Ontario! Regards, --papageno (talk) 03:55, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
