Thank you for improving articles in November! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:12, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
I uploaded pics of a trip that was a 10-day celebration of a 16 November event, but the day was also when a dear friend died. We sang Hevenu shalom aleichem at his funeral yesterday, and it was good. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:29, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from James Feely6 (14:26, 21 November 2024)
editHello Eddie,
How are you ?:)
I was wondering if you could advise me on something please. I am looking to create my own Wikipedia page but at what stage will wikipedia recognise my account as a page that can publish my own written material? and what do I need to do to get there? Ideally I can get it done in the next month.
Thanks, James --James Feely6 (talk) 14:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @James Feely6, I've the same response as below:
- Do you meet our notability criteria for people? Not just anyone can have an article, they have to have gotten covered by independent and reliable sources (such as newspapers, books, or journals). It's also generally not recommended to write your own article see here for more on why. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:39, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie,
- I am not writing an article about myself, sorry for the confusion. Instead, I will be writing an article about a company which does have published media material and articles written about them. Typically what is the process like for this situation? I have been practising editing on other articles to become auto-confirmed. How long will it take for my article to become accepted once I publish it, currently I am making a draft in my sandbox.
- I appreciate any insight you've got James Feely6 (talk) 17:03, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @James Feely6, thanks for the clarification. It's hard to say, if the topic is clearly notable, I would say that it should be reviewed within a few weeks. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:39, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I have created a new page called Data Product, it is a word gaining currency in modern data management and requires a defenition,
I have used social to crowd review the defenition and have also done an edit to refine it and would now like to know what the next step is.
Please advice.
Thanks and regards,
Sukujar --SukuDan (talk) 15:59, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @SukuDan, probably the first thing you should do is make sure the term meets our notability guidelines. Has it gotten covered in the news? What about academic journals or books? Any other reliable sources could count, too. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:37, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie,
- Many thanks for reaching out, I have read the notability guidelines, and look for objective evidences that are being unearthed. For instance DAMA (see Dama.org) is a global community based organisation which owns DM BoK (Data Management Book of KNowledge). Dama has chapters globally, I have connected with the Dutch Chapter and have requested help in ensuring that we have a good defenition that is acceptable and valuable. They are enthusiastic.
- We are discovering more published material on the subject and are planning to formally review the defenition against what is available and becoming available.
- I have a question to ask you, Linked in is a social media (LinkedIn) In todays age many professionals and others involved with data and analytics are involved, What does Wikepedia think of the inputs that are received for example could I conduct a survey and ask people if it will be valuable to have a defenition added to Wikipedia and if so to review and provide suggestions.
- This may be a strange request, but today we have the reach of many people who are practinoers in this area and to have a common defenition would be valueable, look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.
- Warm Regards,
- Sukumar SukuDan (talk) 08:20, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SukuDan, The topic still needs to have received coverage in independent, reliable sources. For instance, if a newspaper wrote the report that you are talking about (based on LinkedIn), it would be helpful, but we cannot write an article based on original research. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:37, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- I understand and am happy to include the following in the refrences. what do you think? Is this good to go?
- 1. “Data Mesh: Delivering Data-Driven Value at Scale” by Zhamak Dehghani
- This seminal book introduces the concept of data mesh, emphasizing the treatment of data as a product. Dehghani outlines how decentralized data ownership and product thinking can enhance data management and analytics within organizations.
- 2. “Data Mesh Principles and Logical Architecture” by Zhamak Dehghani
- In this article, Dehghani elaborates on the principles of data mesh, detailing how data products serve as the architectural quantum in a decentralized data architecture.
- 3. “Revolutionizing Insights: A Deep Dive into Data Product Architecture” by Scribble Data
- This article explores the components and design considerations of data products, providing insights into their role within modern data architectures.
- 4. “Defining Data Products & Their Role in Data Mesh Architecture” by data.world
- This piece discusses the significance of data products in the context of data mesh, highlighting their importance in scalable data governance.
- 5. “What Is Data as a Product (DaaP)?” by IBM
- IBM’s article delves into the concept of treating data as a product, aligning with the principles of data mesh and emphasizing the need for self-service tools and stakeholder alignment. SukuDan (talk) 11:25, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- I guess I would want to see sourcing describing the concept written by people who are not directly involved with it (all of those sources seem to be people or companies that sell data as a product, and imo can't really be considered independent). Are there any journal articles or news articles? Eddie891 Talk Work 22:17, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2024
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).
Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
