Oakland Athletics minor league players

Thanks for that link to the Afd on the Detroit Tigers / MLB minor league teams. I'd seen the discussion there before but I wasn't aware a consensus had been reached. Radiant chains (talk) 02:34, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

No problem, I mean I personally don't see the point of having the non-notable guys on a non-notable list but while it's there we might as well use the page.--Giants27 T/C 02:36, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Why do I always get soccer teams? Cause some people call it football? Insane. Others I think are good, and will get to them when I get a chance. Thanks.--Giants27 T/C 19:25, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

LOL I got another one.--Giants27 T/C 19:35, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Rocky Cherry (baseball player)

I note from the article's history that you were the one to last edit it. Thanks for that! My question based on your edit, though, is the following:

Do you have a substantive link that can say for sure that he received an invite to ST?

This is the Red Sox' official list from MLB.com:

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/team/roster_nri.jsp?c_id=bos

No Cherry listed on there.

I also ask because, I'm creating a roster file for the latest version of a baseball simulation game called Baseball Mogul. In addition to the roster file, I have a separate file of non-roster invitees (as per MLB.com), so that I can ensure I add all of those to the roster file, and, on the correct teams.

This link, http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=3011, along with others, tend to support the fact that he was signed by the Red Sox. None, however, can substantiate your edit for the non-roster invitation to ST. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GOYANKSGONJ (talkcontribs) 05:08, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

That was an error, go ahead and remove it.--Giants27 :  Chat  18:56, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Question

Saw your name on the Adop list, you were the only one listing NFL as your topic, Please contact me before I screw something up (on accident)

David.snipes (talk) 17:32, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Whoop too late- I had something deleted already. David.snipes (talk) 20:40, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

ok What did I do wrong here?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Loverne --David.snipes (talk) 20:41, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok Last one for today (before you hunt me down)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_East_Carolina_University_alumni#American_Football

I added troy smith- when I inserted the Link- it directed to the ravens QB- the only way I could get the correct player was to add the remaineder. How do I fix this? David.snipes (talk) 21:15, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind I figured it out!! Whoo-Hoo, now I'll go fix another red-link, screw that up and bug you about that one instead! David.snipes (talk) 21:36, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Notability

ok.

What is included in noteable?

In the NFL Draft- every pick is notable, and looking at someguidelines there are a TON of players that are no longer considered noteable but were back in the prism of time.

Each and every pick in the 2006 Draft has his own Wiki-page from 1-255 and other notable players , but the 1996 Draft has a bunch of Red Lines, the first one at pick 38! The Second Round Alone has 5 Redlinks. The fourth Round only links to 15 player pages after I fixed the Donnie_Edwards one

under the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability link (thanks to Aktsu for the link) They should ALL have thier own pages. I call into these two "laws" on that page

-- Notability requires objective evidence

-- Notability is not temporary

If the year is 2019, are the 2006 picks as relevant as the 1996 picks are today? SO.

1. We need to wait until 5 years after the draft to create anypages- to ensure they do something

2. We (users) are going to be deleting a TON of pages every year.

Objective evidence is there- there are a TON of pages dedicated to each draft pick on ESPN,CNNSI,NFL(or the other sports) etc.

And if by the standards- they are not temporary- they are still listed in the history of the NFL and that team.

Back to the Jason Thacker(etc) pages.

1. The Ultimate Fighter launched the UFC in the American Mindset- and long after all those fighters are retired they will still be looked at as long as the UFC and MMA as a whole are around (kind of like Super Bowl is to the NFL) I think each and every person on that show contributed to its success.

2. I look at Wiki as a web-equvilent of The Enclopedia, When you go to a page in the book- you do not see a article that says, please see the New York Times, I don't feel that we should click on Jason Von Flue and get a responce, please see Sherdog as A) Wiki is subject to THIER content, and b) They do have ads&opinions two things Wiki avoids.

Sorry for the long post, but I was intending to do a good bit of work on the redlinks- as I am almost OCD on completeness, I don't want to begin a futile project and want to make sure I stay up to the standards people like you set. David.snipes (talk) 15:16, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

ok, so bottom line (as far as the NFL Draft goes- if they
A- got in one game
B- Was on a roster for a year
C- College stats warrent inclusion
Put them in? (or in your book)--David.snipes (talk) 01:06, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Hows THis?

Update

  • On March 26, 2009 an importance scale was added to the project's banner. The scale can be found here. It would be greatly appreciated if you went through and tagged AFL and af2 players with on the importance scale. Also, the option of |attention= (Yes or No) has been added. Please see Template:WikiProject Arena Football League if you have any questions.

Needs

  • Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA's out of them.
  • All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
  • Please help in re-assessing articles, as well as expanding them. We need to get to work on it and get as much done as possible.

Newsletter news

  • As you may have noticed, there is a slightly modified look to the newsletter. I felt this would be helpful for those issues with alot of news headlines, etc. So I thought I'd tell you alittle bit about it. The top section is the "Table of Contents," as the name states. The ONLY time anything else is to be included is when there is a BIG headline, such as the League's possible return in 2010, as above. Those headlines get their own special subsection in the Current events section. That is how things will be organized, also in the order they happen. Hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions or comments pleae feel free to leave them here.

  • On March 23, it was announced that the AFL plans to return to play in 2010 after the league and the players union reached an agreement to amend the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Transactions
Source(s): ArenaFootball.com Transactions, ArenaFan.com Transactions, af2 Transactions - Transactions News
  • Beginning with this issue, there will be NO transactions listed for the af2, as the list becomes too long, time consuming, cluttered and well, I just can't take doing it anymore. However, year, should the AFL in fact return, a transactions section will be up for them. I will still provide the section and links in every issue, just not a complete long list as before. Only notable players transactions will be included.

Arena Football League Article Stats
  • Our goal is to get the number of Stub-Class articles down to 0, in due time. The current article count is listed below, I have placed the forumla that is on the project page that is updated everytime the bot is run and it tallies up our articles and where they are and lists them as seen below, so that no one has to worry about making sure it's updated manually before the newsletter is sent out. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list is provided in the stub-class category of stub articles that need to be improved, and some should be fairly easy.

Redesigning the Seinfeld Project Page

Hello Giants27/Archives/2009. I have been working on redesigning the main page for the Seinfeld WikiProject at this page. So before I went on and changed the main page, I wanted to ask all the members how they felt about it. So could you take a look at it and give any suggestions to improving it at here. Bothering Question 7,813

On pages such as Carolina Panthers Should I go through and add things that are on other teams pages (such as All Time Draft Picks, Retired Numbers, etc) or should I just put it on the discussion page and see if someone else wants to do so?

I could put it on a sandbox and have someone (hint hint) look at it before I post it. --David.snipes (talk) 16:20, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

All the minor league stubs you are putting up for deletion meet the criteria of WP:Baseball. Please remove all the deletion template from the stubs you have placed them on. If you want more information, read up on WP:Baseball. Gjr rodriguez (talk) 02:39, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

The only one I think should be kept is Chris Nelson (baseball), because he is on the Rockies 40 man roster. Also he reminds me of someone we know lol--Yankees10 00:39, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Your not gonna stop the stubs, everyone has figured it out except you, apparently. So instead of deleting, do something to add to the encyclopedia. Rather than retard information from people. If you believe there is an approproate way to listing player profiles, I'd love to have it explained. Gjr rodriguez (talk) 03:22, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:Norfolk Tides roster

Just an explanation as to why all those players you deleted were there. I maintained this particular template last season, and I found it a tremendous nuisance to have to go back and look up all the proper article disambiguations or accented vowels every time a player was sent up to Baltimore/down to Bowie and then returned. To cite but one example, Craig Anderson (left-handed pitcher) was placed on the roster 6 times during the season, most of them before I moved the article from Craig Anderson (Australian pitcher). Of course, if you really feel like retyping all that stuff every time a player comes back to town (including the uni number, which also never changes), be my guest. I have better things to do than reinvent the wheel. Rklear (talk) 21:16, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

It's just that it's sort of inaccurate to have them there and I mean I don't really mind doing it over and over but if you want to re-add them go ahead.--Giants27 T/C 21:18, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Looking again, my first comment may have been a bit POINTy; I apologize for that. The point I am trying to make is that these roster templates are a bit of an odd duck as far as Wikipedia content goes. Things are going to be deleted and restored on an almost daily basis, not because of edit warring, but because the underlying facts are in flux. I'm just trying to think of the simplest way to maintain code in such a situation, and falling back on what worked in my programmer days. You seem to have taken on the task of keeping up with the entire IL, and I wish you good luck in that. You should do what you feel comfortable with, and I'd rather not interfere with that. Consider it a strong suggestion, though. Rklear (talk) 22:04, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
You really didn't come of as pointy IMO, and I never really thought of that idea to leave the guys on there cause I remember Jordan De Jong last year was sent between AA and AAA like 100 times, I think I'm going to start using that, thanks and thanks for the support.--Giants27 T/C 22:11, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Giants27. I just noticed this. If you're frustrated, it's best to sit down with a cup of tea and calm down for a bit. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 18:31, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

RfA

Perhaps it would be wise to give DougsTech a fair chance to reply before directing the discussion to a different venue. The question is posed in good faith, and unless I'm mistaken this particular point hasn't been raised before? Best, DurovaCharge! 02:29, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

You're right that it hasn't been asked before but given his recent history he probably won't respond and sorry if I came off as a dick but usually I see someone make a comment under his oppose and then they're directed to the massively long discussion.--Giants27 T/C 02:32, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Not a problem at all. After so many months of Kurt Weber it's understandable to get a bit jaded. It just seems to me that the proper thing to do is attempt a reasonable dialog once, with facts at hand. I also have stats about the steady drop over time in the ratio of admins to registered accounts, and data about specific backlogs. If he replies in a serious manner I'll be glad to discuss it seriously. Otherwise, if other people's concerns get borne out, then the thing to do would be to migrate the discussion from WT:RFA into real dispute resolution. Would you consider perhaps withdrawing your response? I'd like to provide him a fair chance to reply without creating the impression that the well has been poisoned. DurovaCharge! 02:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah no problem, and yeah there is a lot of backlog and drop of administrators and hopefully you can get an answer out of him since he hasn't answered anything in a while.--Giants27 T/C 02:44, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I've already explained that I've been here before on my new account. Sitting on the sofa drinking soda after soda and eating an unhealthy amount of chips. You?--Giants27 T/C 19:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Pretty much the same. Do you want to make any plans for how we're gonna edit? Typically, I just open the roster template of the team on the clock then make the edit when they pick. I usually don't bother with the player articles right away because there will be SO many edits. What I usually do it wait to fix them up when they sign, that way the hype of the draft has died down a bit and I can still make sure I covered everyone.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:45, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Probably gonna stay away from the templates early on might get there later one but first round probably not.--Giants27 T/C 20:38, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Will you vote and throw in your two cents at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Nalbone?►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Travis Beckum

Your insistence that Beckum's alma mater be referred to simply as "Wisconsin" has no basis in logic or precedent. If there were an established standard, there might be some merit to your demand. However, a quick look at other alumnae of the school (e.g., Troy Vincent, Stu Voigt, John Stocco, Joe Panos) shows that it is commonly (and appropriately) referred to as "University of Wisconsin-Madison." WP is an encyclopedia, not a sports show. Proper naming of people, places, and things is de rigueur. Given that the link still goes to Wisconsin Badgers football, and not to the school, your argument seems to be nothing more than an ownership demand. --Sift&Winnow 22:27, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Seriously? You're claiming that I think I own the article, I understand I don't own the article, and I know wikipedia is an encyclopedia but we don't have to a have a stick up our ass and call every thing the University of Wherever, we call it by it's common name.--Giants27 T/C 22:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Flattery will get you nowhere. --Sift&Winnow 22:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

81 guys

The rookies don't actually count toward the 80-man roster limit until they sign. We just don't separate them out on the right side because if you don't put them in with the rest, we'll have to deal with people adding rookies to rookies to 32 templates on a daily basis. It's just easier this way.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah makes sense don't need those stupid IP's making meaningless edits.--Giants27 T/C 01:38, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
And you know it would happen on all 32 templates every day? "Where's B. J. Raji?!" "Where's Vontae Davis?" If we put them to the right as "Unsigned Draft Picks" people would never see it haha.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:39, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
It would be pre-free agency all over again. haha--Giants27 T/C 01:42, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

As an FYI, User:Grsz11/Sandbox#Bios is a list of articles from the 2009 Draft that I believe do not currently pass the standard. I'm going to do my research, and some of them may come off that list. But it's only 16 out of 250-something. Grsz11 17:23, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Although I know they're all notable, the best cases can be made for Greg Toler, Ramses Barden, Lawrence Sidbury, Sammie Lee Hill and Derek Cox since they were all fourth round or higher picks.--Giants27 T/C 17:51, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Finally, add the text {{Panthers2001DraftPicks}} right above the categories listed on each of those players page.--Giants27 T/C 20:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Told you I'd be trouble, once I complete all the Draft Picks to date I have 2 questions

1) Should I do ALL the years? I know that the Giants go back to 1883 :-) but the Panthers only to 1996 should I do them all

2) What would you suggest I tackle next? David.snipes (talk) 00:19, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

If it's an all red link template then there's no point to it like I'd expect the Giants to be. Although the earliest draft record here on Wikipedia are from 1936 but I'd say 1990 is the latest and maybe ones from before it if extremely notable (Lawrence Taylor's class, Phil Simms' class). And for the Panthers or any team for that matter except for the Giants most teams only go from 06-08 (09' for some most not filled in I think) so what I'd start with is checking all 2009 draft navbox templates and filling in the ones that need it.--Giants27 T/C 01:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
ok, I'll just go with 2000 and up- my intenet is just to work on the Panthers sites (let the other teams get thier OWN fans- Once I finish 2004-2006 I'll work on the players, ok? David.snipes (talk) 01:22, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

You must of clicked on a link to Wikimedia Commons which just like this Wikipedia is owned by the Wikimedia Foundation. Commons as its commonly called is the house of most images you see on Wikipedia of all languages. Whenever you click on a link to another Wiki it auto creates and account there for you and when you do that on Commons a bot comes to welcome you right away. No worries it's normal I have accounts on like 12 wikis and only edit on two because I clicked on links to others.--Giants27 T/C 21:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

For this file and other links you don't have to copy-paste the URL you can just use brackets like this for a link to your userpage [[User talk:David.snipes]] which produces User talk:David.snipes. So for that you have to link it like this: File:USAMMA.jpg so that way it shows however if the place where you are putting it has the command image= in the infobox you just add USAMMA.jpg next to the equals sign. And no you can remove conversations from your own talk page or you can archive it.--Giants27 T/C 21:48, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
